On the night of July 23-24, 1977, the first Rockpalast-night took place at the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany. It was broadcast live on ARD and seven other European countries via Eurovision, featuring full concerts from Rory Gallagher and Little Feat.
A highlight was Roger McGuinn’s Thunderbyrd concert. McGuinn, who participated in Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue, brought the "Jingle, Jangle" sound of the Byrds to the stage. His performance included classics like "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Chestnut Mare."
This event marked the beginning of a tradition, with Rockpalast airing twice a year for ten years, showcasing music that deeply resonated with its audience.

what a great band. They really killed it on Chestnut Mare. The Thunderbyrd tunes sound great too.
Superb band. Saw this band in London 77 with Clark and Hillman.
Rockin' lonely bird ! Fantastic Rockpalast !
awesome
Rogers short lived Thunderbyrd band. Excellent line up. Album from the same name had very few overdubs. This line up also played in London on the same bill with the Gene Clark band & Chris Hillman band. Not long after Mcguinn / Clark Hillman was formed !
I was there in London!
@@Helpyourself5 Hammersmith 👍
@@robertlagan8441 superb gig. Available on cd. “ 3 Byrd’s land in London. “
@@robertlagan8441 rolling thunder style ( tea towels) headgear. for the (3song?) encore 🤣🤣
I saw that. 11 years old, with my big brother‘s bw tv under the duvet, sound dialed low so my parents wouldn’t bust me…
This channel is awesome!
That Tele looks like a 50s Nocaster….i guess today Rick wished he hadn’t had it refinished and put a string bender on it. Would be nearly 6 figures in original condition…..
Хорошо .
Suuuper
It is…3:30….Rick Vito
Surprised Rick did not break some strings !
Rick Vito on guitar?
Yes indeed
Plenty of marching powder before they went on !
McGuinn is really coked up here !!! More Coke Rog ???
