Yeah it's an awesome game! I really like it, it's a remake of an older game called Kosmonaut which was also on DOS. I'll have to check out the TI84 version, that sounds really cool!
This was a great idea and turned out to be a great video. It was very entertaining, thanks for making it. I've played most of the games here but I don't think I need to try some of the hardest levels and something like sky roads, that will just make me go insane trying to get to the next level lol.
Thanks I'm glad you liked the video! It's crazy how hard some of these games get with higher difficulties, theyre just insane. And yeah Skyroads is completely ridiculous haha. That game took literally my entire life to complete.
Man, I'm so glad to see SkyRoads here, because similarly to you, I had this game ever since I was a kid but only managed to fully beat it just recently. The final road was pretty much a rhythm game where your timing had to be absolutely perfect with every jump lmao
Congrats on finally beating it! It's so brutal right? Some of those tiles were spaced so far apart on Druidia Road 3 and I hardly ever was able to clear those gaps. The one that really killed me was Road 2 though, that alone took me like 10 years.
I'd add Dangerous dave and commander keen 3 to the list too. Those games are brutal asf. Eventually managed to beat keen 3 after extreme difficulty. Never finished Dangerous dave though.
Oh yeah Keen 3 is absolutely brutal! I never even beat the first level of that when I was a kid. I also love the original Dangerous Dave, that was a ton of fun! I really should have mentioned those games. Another hard game I forgot to mention is Blackthorne, super cool game but so punishing.
Well now I don't feel so bad about not having completed any of these except for Spear of Destiny lol Descent 2 is probably the most frustrating of the ones here that I've played. Even if you take out the thief, there are a lot of confusing levels and tough bosses to contend with, and it really saps my gaming stamina to the point that I always end up putting it down at some point before the end.
Yeah these games are pretty brutal. A lot of them are completely insane on the harder difficulties. Tyrian and Jazz are pretty accessible on the easier difficulties but the rest are just crazy. Descent 2 can be pretty rough to navigate through and it doesn't help that the automap is a jumbled mess lol. The modern Descent game, Overload, has an automap that's much better.
Skyroad was my favorite dos game back in 1995, I used to play it a lot at school even secretly during class, a lot of android games that are actually based on skyroads, its a hidden gem that doesnt get mentioned much these days.
I loved Skyroads so much. It's so much fun and very challenging. I still play it on my 386 computer every now and then, I'm trying to get through the Xmas edition.
If you wanna talk difficult, Bio Menace is definitely up there. Even on the Easy difficulty. It REQUIRES you to use special moves that DRAIN YOUR HEALTH in order to even have a chance of making it through the game. And these special moves ARE NEVER EXPLAINED TO YOU IN THE GAME.
I've heard a lot about Bio Menace but never played it before. That sounds so brutal haha. I definitely need to play that someday! I love the old Apogee games of that time. They made so many great games.
Wizardry 4, the Return of Werdna. The only way to get out of the first room is to choose one specific monster type to summon and then by shear RNG hope they cast a specific NON COMBAT spell in combat that will reveal the door and there are no clues or hints or ANYTHING telling you to try this. It only gets worse from there!
Great video - would love to see more like this. Yeah I agree about Descent's AI. I haven't gotten around to number II yet, because I'm still trying to complete the first one on hard difficulty. It's taking me hundreds of attempts to complete the difficult rooms on some levels because the AI changes so often that it's sometimes impossible to memorise. I would add the beta version of Major Stryker to the list - that game is tough enough on novice level but the beta was impossible. It's still available today.
That's awesome that you're playing Descent! That series is just amazing, and yeah it is absolutely brutal. I got absolutely wrecked my first time playing even on the rookie difficulty. Those drillers murdered me like crazy. I would love to re-play those games soon, the second one has a 3dfx Voodoo patch and it runs so silky smooth. I've heard of Major Stryker but never played it, I should really play that sometime because I love the old Apogee classics! Thanks for watching!
Not sure what my absolute top 10 hardest DOS Games would be - I only keep track of the ones I've finished and of those I could easily make a top 50. But 10 of them would be... Cadaver Commander Keen 3: Keen Must Die! Discworld Iron Man / X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal Litil Divil Magic Carpet Rayman Supaplex Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (European version is beatable, not that it makes it much easier) The Jetsons in By George, in Trouble Again
Great list! You've beaten some insanely hard games, I remember seeing you play Magic Carpet, that looked brutal. And I've heard a lot about the DOS version of TMNT, that game is infamous. I had no idea Rayman was such a hard game, I'll have to play that one. I'm still blown away that you beat every level in Supaplex, that is easily my pick for #1 hardest that I've played.
@@jikissgamer It is like climbing a mountain, but Supaplex is at least a fair challenge unlike a lot of other games. Since Horror Zombies From the Crypt and the North American version of TMNT are actually broken - I suppose they would have to be called the hardest games. A few that I can remember that I've never been able to get far on: Artura Baal Batman: The Caped Crusader Cool Croc Twins Dalek Attack Netherworld N.Y. Warriors Zool 2
@@Vyothric Oh yeah Horror Zombies is one I was actually thinking of recently but couldn't remember the name. I didn't know that Batman Caped Crusader was on DOS I'll have to check that out! And I've heard Zool 2 was very tough, it looks like a cool platform game though!
@@BrokenCircus Interesting! Yeah I always thought it looked like a fun cartoony platformer. I had no idea it was so hard! I definitely need to play that and see it for myself.
Sorry to hear that you weren't into Blood. In the DOS version, if you save a game on the easiest difficulty and load the save file, it'll play like you saved on the hardest! It works the other way around, too! The only difficulty level that loads correctly is Lightly Broiled. Difficulty-wise, I think the mod Death Wish feels the most fair, but it can still kick your ass. There's an enemy in Blood called the choking hand. It makes a beeline for you and wrings your neck, quickly decreasing your health. If you mash the activate/open door key, it'll get off of you.
I see, yeah I wondered why I was getting destroyed when I first played Blood and it was most likely that save bug. I was also wasting a ton of ammo because I didn't know how scarce it would be. I might need to search for more secrets as well. It's a good game but quite different from most FPS games I had played
@@jikissgamer The ammo is very scarce in episode 1. From episode 2 onwards, I remember it being more plentiful, especially in the Cryptic Passage expansion. The more secret areas you know, the better.
You can actually win Tyrian on Lord of the Game, but to do so you need to start at lowed dificulty and do rounds until your dificulty becomes Lord of the Game as every loop adds one level of dificulty. Still even with maxed out weapons and armor and slug mode its very hard to finish as there are many enemies which are impossible to kill fast enough so it turns to bullet hell game.
That's awesome actually, I did not know that about the loops. Now I want to play through the loops and see if the powerups I pick up along the way will help Lord of Game.
Nice list! Glad to see Plutonia make it on there, as it's definitely on the tougher side of the retail DOS Doom games.
Thanks! Agreed, it's super hard. I remember getting wrecked by it my first time playing haha. Love that WAD though!
Don't to into Blood blind is GREAT advice lol. Great video dude.
Thanks! Yeah I learned that the hard way haha.
Skyroads sounds really cool, I played a copy on my TI84 and never knew it was originally on DOS
