I often compare her path to Charlotte Gainsbourg's (who also started doing music after cementing a career in a different field and was born into a family of wealth). Not everything that is good has to be X-Factor good.

I dunno why a lot of you are commenting about accents. It's possible to speak several languages without an accent, as simple as that. And if you've lived in Europe it's normal to speak minimum 2-3-4 languages almost fluently.

***** I' speaking from experience. I'm french and didn't start learning until I was in middle school. I remember my teacher in middle school wanted to teach us but the school head master refused.... French people are arrogant and not open to the world. They assume that when they go somewhere (not that they travel to non french speaking countries that much)people will speak french. It's true. It's probably due to the fact that the french empire was so huge that there's so many countries that speak french(in africa, canada etc...) plus we do have a lot of overseas territories so when you're french you can go on vacations to many exotic places where you know people speak french so you don't need to speak english. Look at Sarkozy and even Hollande, they can't speak english to save their lives ( although Sarkozy is currently learning). I remember seeing this video of Sarko with Carla in Egypt I think and Carla was translating for him...And that is a man who graduated from one of our top schools, he's not an idiot but even as a president he never felt he needed to I guess.

I dunno why a lot of you are commenting about accents. It's possible to speak several languages without an accent, as simple as that. And if you've lived in Europe it's normal to speak minimum 2-3-4 languages almost fluently.
I agree. I speak 4 very well, and 3 less good.
When you're french it's not normal to speak any language other than french, german, spanish and italian however do pay more attention to english.

***** I' speaking from experience. I'm french and didn't start learning until I was in middle school. I remember my teacher in middle school wanted to teach us but the school head master refused.... French people are arrogant and not open to the world. They assume that when they go somewhere (not that they travel to non french speaking countries that much)people will speak french. It's true. It's probably due to the fact that the french empire was so huge that there's so many countries that speak french(in africa, canada etc...) plus we do have a lot of overseas territories so when you're french you can go on vacations to many exotic places where you know people speak french so you don't need to speak english. Look at Sarkozy and even Hollande, they can't speak english to save their lives ( although Sarkozy is currently learning). I remember seeing this video of Sarko with Carla in Egypt I think and Carla was translating for him...And that is a man who graduated from one of our top schools, he's not an idiot but even as a president he never felt he needed to I guess.
Céline from London I see your point, but you do not have to generalize, I think it depends a lot on the person mainly, doesn't matter the nationality - if one wants to educate onself more than the average. And so :) you don't have to point to the Fr people, since in UK is the same rarely a person who'll necessary want to bother learning other than English, same goes in US- statistically speaking :). And I don't think it's arrogance, it's rather a comfort from which people are not motivated to get out. That's all. When your life depends on learning a new language ( I mean economically, socially) you'll do the effort and get out of your comfort. Learning (seriously) a language, I hope you agree, implies study but also practice, reading, writing extensively - that is more of what you do in school which (no matter the country) is never serious, that unless you're in a specialized languages scool and that's a different story. Me , I speak 3 other languages than my own very good, and other 3 less good. But in my case I was lucky... for some reason I didn't have to do too much effort to learn a language, that helped. :)To me every language is like a melody :). Once you get the right scale code then it comes natural. :)
Wow I looked up her songs after this and I had no idea she was the singer of "You Belong With Me". I've always loved that old song but never cared to find out who sung it.
She is not the writer nor the original singer of that song. She just covered it for Comme si de ne rien n'était.
I had some doubts when she became First Lady. I did not know if she would be convincing. Finally, she was more than convincing - she was fantastic.
