A.I. isn't there to do the work for you though. You could do that... you could do a lot of stuff. Like reuse drum patterns everyone uses since forever because we're not drummers... right? But A.I. is meant to guide you, point you in the right direction based on the input you give it. The genre makes or breaks a song in the studio based on the information given on the song's genre. That's exactly how A.I. mixes and masters. When mastering with an A.I. simply changing the song's GENRE, I've seen first-hand, it changes the song completely [of course using all sorts of analogue emulation is the main culprit here]. I think, the primary thing A.I. actually does is gain stage, leveling, and fitting everything neatly in their own pockets. That's all. Man is limited by our hearing and equipment. A.I. fixes this problem. It won't make a song for you or cheat your mix to sound fancy. That's the wrong notion.
I would like to have a direct comparision. Raw Tracks mixed by you first hand (So that you can't get biased by anything the AI makes, that makes you subconscious copy it). Afterwards let the AI do the Job and then give us the direct A|B comparisons. I would like to some sort of analysis tool view, that shows the difference. Maybe this [was it phase flip?] tool, that cancel everything except the differenz between the 2 soundfiles I know there is at least a decent amount of personal taste in what makes a mix sound better than another. I would just like to have these 2 options in comparison 🙂

Kind of like vocalign or superior drummer but all about simplicity and AI mixing for demo purposes or a quick production.
Sounds cool. I don't get all the hate towards an all in one solution. "Well it's not like they did it back in the day when it was superior." It's like what do you think a mixing console was designed for...

I do believe you are supposed to be (or will get better results by) using the Smart:EQ on the kick bus and snare bus, not the individual mic sources. The different target curves it is trying to achieve is probably based on general snare bus, kick bus, bass bus mixes (and so on), not based on individual mic mixes. If it were, there would probably be kick in, kick out, snare top and snare bottom profiles. It's a pretty nice plug-in to quickly get a somewhat workable sound, but I feel it's more geared towards producers and musicians rather than engineers. It's also very heavy on the CPU, even though Reaper only says it uses quite a small amount. For example: on a heavy project with a large plug-in count my CPU use hovers around 50-55% (in task manager), but as soon as I insert smart:EQ3 it suddenly jumps to 82-85% CPU use :S This is even though Reaper says that smart:EQ3 only uses 0.5-0.6% CPU. So smart:EQ3 is definitely doing something very heavy in the background that Reaper doesn't account for. Maybe this is just a problem with my system? Anyone else here that's also experiencing this?
@@CaldoHits that's not the reason it's about 40x more CPU intensive than say Pro-Q 3. It was using insane amounts of CPU wether I had it set to lin phase, minimum phase, dynamic EQ or not dynamic. Reaper only reported it to be using around 0.5% CPU, when it was in reality using about 20-25% CPU (in task mgr, not Reaper)! I'm wondering if it has something to do with the networking capabilities of the plug-in, because that's something that Reaper wouldn't account for in the CPU and RT CPU metering since it is working in the background, outside of Reaper, by creating a local network of some sorts. I didn't buy smart:EQ 3 after my 30-day trial had ended because of this fact, but maybe they have fixed that now.

In the end audio processing will be amazing with AI. And being able to sing all parts and have to convert it into another instrument, or better voice, any voice, and put it in any room, sound any way you want, played however you like, at any level of skill. Etc.
Nothing about time alignment? Seems this would be a very useful application of AI as initial drum mic alignment can be a slow and tedious task -- but worth it because of all the other processing that's often no longer needed once the phase issues are mitigated.
Kinda off topic but i'm having this problem right now and would like to know what you think. my new masters have -2 true peak but the meter on my UAD Arrow shows red at times when I play them. Should U upload like this or...?
Another great review video. I really appreciate your perspective. The air drumming was epic, we need more. I need to know what your nails look like under a black light!
Is pureComp doing spectral compression? Is that why the latency is so high? It's a shame. These kind of plugins that prioritise speed and simplicity over flexibility make sense to me while still in the production stage, when you want to keep moving quickly and not get bogged down in tweaking settings. The latency of pureComp is just too high for that unfortunately.
i came back to this video today thinking "what if you run the mix trough this same process more than once? What the AI will decide to do?" but I don't have the plugins to test this :(
Most of my favourite YT channels could be parodied, because they are somewhat formulaic. When I hear the words "Let's get started" in a Dutch accent at the start of a video, my brain is primed for a rant about autogain. This video did not disappoint. Unless I missed it, there was no mention of 'Sandstorm' though. I will complain to the AI's manager.
@@Whiteseastudio I used these on m1 mac mini 16bg of ram. Haven't had an issue with any plugin except these. I used it mostly on drums and it finally overloaded my machine.
Nice vide! Like to hear more about compression on drums. Back in the 80th we had one studio in my hometown. We could recognize this studio just by hearing the releases. Everything sounded "compressed" where I (as a drummer) was also told not to play ghost notes or dynamically change a snare hit. Meanwhile, I listened to recordings from bigger studios and it sounded completely different. Could it be a compressor/limiter on the master? All instruments seamed to bee in the same "volume range". We're talking 16 channels magnetic tapes. Was there an analog limiter present? Anyway, I would like to know more about compression targeting different instruments/vocals and to get the best of everything combined! Thx! 🥁
Every studio uses forms of compression on drums, often at multiple stages (individual instruments, grouped/drum-bus and optionally on the master. It sounds like that studio's recordings were over-compressed / squashed / over-limited.
Sounds over compressed but it could be more complicated. I mean, in the 80s you were bound to expensive racks so were they slamming everything with certain types of comp i don't know. Plus tape decks all sound different and need maintenance like biasing which really changes the feel. I've had the cardboard tom problem but within the last decade digitally, and i think the producer may have just thought it was cool in isolation but didn't consider it in the context, adding lots of saturation too. More helpful to think about the method like that because there is no exact line that's "too much compression". I expect my producer just got it sounding super punchy then wih the guitars in everything but transients and their distorted harmonics got masked, thus cardboard/plastic tubs!
What did Chat GPT write? Obviously, all of the stuff about auto gain. Also, 'trust the AI'. And that bit about adblockers being disrespectful. It takes a computer program to be that offended by a computer program. And... I'm sure in programming and research and development terms that the AI is very impressive. And it's suggestions have a lot of detail in them, more than a human is likely to have time to come up with. I'm not so sure about the audible results, though. The quality of the underlying effects is, as you say, excellent.

In the end audio processing will be amazing with AI. And being able to sing all parts and have to convert it into another instrument, or better voice, any voice, and put it in any room, sound any way you want, played however you like, at any level of skill. Etc.
ai will outclass us in every part of the music making process before too long. Every creative career path is dead in 10 years. Don't get too excited.
Nothing about time alignment? Seems this would be a very useful application of AI as initial drum mic alignment can be a slow and tedious task -- but worth it because of all the other processing that's often no longer needed once the phase issues are mitigated.
Is it a teaser for your new instant mastering service handle by an A.I?
very subtil
Kinda off topic but i'm having this problem right now and would like to know what you think. my new masters have -2 true peak but the meter on my UAD Arrow shows red at times when I play them. Should U upload like this or...?
Starting from 14:32 this part is so good hahahah.
Another great review video. I really appreciate your perspective. The air drumming was epic, we need more.
I need to know what your nails look like under a black light!
Like nuclear waste ;-)
@@Whiteseastudio Hahaha! Awesome.
New White Sea intro? Nice.
been watching for about 5 years, Love the nail paint. Don't know why but nice touch and grate vid as always.
How would that sound being cut to acetate disk. like the dribbs.
Sound cut out went reach it limit
i came back to this video today thinking "what if you run the mix trough this same process more than once? What the AI will decide to do?" but I don't have the plugins to test this :(
Ooohhh you swapped the vengeance intro-sound! 🫵🏼🤩
Sonible makes really good plugins! But AI will never replace a mixing engineer (at least I hope so 😆)
machines are replacing people in various things over the years, if it's possible for them to do it with technology they will do it
@@FraustoIndigs True. I'm curious to see when (and if) machines will learn to be creative.
you are great! please do mix monolith
Mooie nieuwe Intro tune Wytse 😎
we need an ai that tell us the name of the song!

can you make video on ToneBoosters or Analog Obsession?
Love your content, thinking about getting a new mic, what is the mic you use in your videos?
When the limiter hit are you okay😂
Can you compare the Pure Bundle against the Focusrite fast bundle? As far as I know both feature the sonible algorithms.
Its on my list… I should do that….
Nice new intro!
If ai can write your script, doesn't that just mean that the script is predictable?
Most of my favourite YT channels could be parodied, because they are somewhat formulaic. When I hear the words "Let's get started" in a Dutch accent at the start of a video, my brain is primed for a rant about autogain. This video did not disappoint. Unless I missed it, there was no mention of 'Sandstorm' though. I will complain to the AI's manager.
@@AutPen38 Most modern UA-camrs just repeatedly present the same formula ad nauseam. That was the point, ye

very intriguing. my computer will probably explode if i tried to use these.
They're pretty lightweight I think...
@@Whiteseastudio I used these on m1 mac mini 16bg of ram. Haven't had an issue with any plugin except these. I used it mostly on drums and it finally overloaded my machine.
I don't understand why I'm supposed to need this bundle when I own the smart EQ/REV/Limit.
You don't
@@itwontstopprods "Squashed" was a good comparison! 🥁
Hey great video! I'm wondering, any clue on how this AI mixing works? Is it some kind of eq matching or is it based on a different logic?
