Thumbs up if you're watching this in 2021 😎 UPDATE: I just released a new DRUM LESSON PACK! -> bit.ly/CobusLessons. 5 lessons, 90 minutes, for 27 bucks. It will make you better at tuning drums, mixing drums, I'll show you my practice routine, my worst habits as a self-taught drummer, and teach you one of my favourite linear licks. Thanks for being here!
That moment when I saw " Take It All Drum Cover by Cobus !!! " and when i saw you singing at 0:52 !!!!!!!!!!!!Man i would love if you make more Drum Cover of Christian Songs ....
Hello sir! One of my past-students told me about you. Love your energy! I think it's awesome that you are praising the Lord as well. Keep it up! Great stuff, and your audience/fan base certainly speaks to that. I do encourage you to re-examine your hand technique though. You are playing with what I would tell my students is a "reverse fulcrum", where the fulcrum/pivot point of the stick is misplaced from the top of the hand down to the lower portion of the palm. Your pivoting on a junction you create by squeezing your pinky onto the underside of the stick shaft, thus locking the stick into a pivot point created between your pinky-the stick-and the edge of your palm underneath the stick. The correct (or traditional, I suppose; all of this is subjective of course) fulcrum should be created at the point between the thumb and the index finger. This is where the stick will operate with the greatest efficiency and ease of effort. As a result, it appears that you are having to use far too much energy in your forearms to create the inertia needed move the sticks in proper timing (this is particularly evident in your tom/fill moments. This is then, in turn, creating issues with you acheiving the full dynamic range that I believe you aspire for. I fear that as your musical tastes/career goals evovle, your current fulcrum point and hand technique will limit your possibilities as a drummer/musician, and minimize the skope of genres/bands that you will be able to play in the same environment with. (Jazz, bop, hi-hop, etc...) The same held true for Neal Peart. He had the same "reverse fulcrum" going on in his early years. Even though, like yourself, he was a KILLER drummer and held supreme creativity, his reverse-fulcrum (as I call it) was greatly affecting his finesse and agility. He didn't notice this as even being an issue until his later years, when his body just couldn't physically work as it once did in his youth. At which point he had to totally revamp his stroke/hand-technique. He talked about this in an interview I saw once. I believe the revamp happened around age 40 for him, though I'm not sure. Anyway, this is an observation I had that I just wanted to share with you. Its very common nowadays. I believe the reverse fulcrum helps intiially to "cushion the blow" and vibrations caused from shafting the sticks agains the hi-hat. I think drummers just kind of naturally gravitate to that reverse fulcrum as a result. Anyway, just wanted to share! I want to see you drumming with this vigor well into your later years sir! Blessings sir!
after so many years, i listen to this again..man, this still got a "different vibe"...idk how to say it but i think you know what i mean..God bless you Cobus~
I can't believe it's been 10 years since I first started following you. And this was probably the one video that took my admiration for you as a person and as a drummer to another level. It's rare to see people praise God so openly and passionately without being in other people's faces and shoving religion down their throats. I have so much respect for you in all you do. I really hope to meet you in person one day, as I live down in San Diego, not too far from you. And it would amazing if you did more praise/worship songs. Specifically, Hosanna. I love Hillsong United. God bless you, Cobus.
dude, i play this song almost every week when my youth group meets together for adooration. i love playing this song and feel like i get into it when i play but watching you play it just blew my mind. great job cobus!!
Cobus as a drummer I want to be a professional with all my heart. I'll do whatever it takes and you Inspired me to play for God more than the world and I want to say the reason why God gave you this talent is so you can reach people for Christ! Whether you know it or not I feel convicted and changed I feel like God want's me to use the little talent I have now in faith and he'll give me the desires of my heart which is to become a professional drummer! Thanks Cobus and God Bless!
I just started drumming for my youth group this past wednesday. :) I was on piano, but recently our drum player moved and we've been in need of a drummer. I stepped up. I'm hoping that I can one day be as good as you. Thanks for being an inspiration to me!!! ♥ -Hannah
As much as I enjoy the side conversation about the theological position of Cobus. I feel I must say that this is the best I've ever heard somebody play this drum part. Sweet job.
Dude you are awesome! I've played for 4 different worship bands and multiple weekend retreats and all-nighters for churches and I've never heard or seen it taken to this level! Keep it up brother, I look forward to seeing you in heaven and hopefully you can teach me how to play like this!
im not a fan..but this song is my favorite...Cobus is awesome! Im glad to see a talented person like him play for Jesus......My son is taking drum lesson, I encourage him to be like Cobus and one day would love to see him play this particular song.....More power to you Cobus....God bless!
Fantastic, perfect, congratulations. Great talent! Touches the soul, the expressions is one of the things I most admire in a musician. I am also a musician, and I know this is a unique moment. Moment where we feel that shiver that goes from head to toe .. Congratulations .. Sorry my english .. I'm Braziliam!
Good job editing the two original versions of the song together haha hope you do include a new Hillsong cover in your next series. You've evolved and so have they so it'd be interesting to see you cover them again. Congrats on your success man, been following you for about 5-6 years now
hey man.. i just wanted to say thank you for uploading this video... you really have a God given talent and i hope you will always be able to use that talent for his glory...
Wow!! I'm astonished Cobus!!! And with this, you are proving to all of us that you got the gift, it's not talent only, you really got the gift of drumming for Our Lord Jesus, keep it going!! :D
Im pretty sure it's three hand strokes followed by two bass strokes in a triplet time with a one note gap between each tom. He taught it in a video on the cobus method. hope that helps.
As a fellow drummer and child of Christ keep doing your thing...God gave you this and it brings him glory when you play!! Do you play on a worship team at your church?
dude. u are awesome. this is my favorite worship song, and i drum it every other week at my youth. not nearly as friggin sick as that dude. keep at it, man
WOW, i have to say, its really nice seeing you play that song there arent many people willing to dedicate what they do to god. keep up the AWESOME work!
Cobus, you have great talent that the lord has blessed you with and also a great opportunity to reach out to people on your channel! keep it up, my friend!
@greenamon It is a hard one. The main parts you have to control are your feet. To type it in words, it is bass-bass-tom-floor bass-bass-tom-floor bassfloorcrash bassfloorcrash. I think that's it.
this was recorded at his church and if you read the description it says he is christian. also if you translate Laus Deo Semper. into english, it means Praise be to God. (Latin to English) hope that clears things up :)
Hi Cobus,You're probably never going to read this but you have inspired me to play drums. I started playing when i was 12 and now im 15. This drum cover is the first drum cover i saw from you and ever since i've watched every single one of your drum covers. I subscribed to Cobus Method which i found so helpful and inspiring. I think i can speak for everyone that you are amazing person and drummer I wish you the best of luck with your career. I also hope you post more chirstian drum covers. :)
@kkzxd Just because he does covers of non-christian songs, doesn't mean he isn't a christian drummer/musician. The 3 first words in all his video descriptions, Laus Deo Semper, means "All Glory to God/Praise God always". Pretty much says it :)
This is the first video I saw of you. A friend of mine showed me this a few years ago and I was so amazed at what you did I subscribed and I'm glad I did. :)
Man I've been watching you for years & I just saw that you played a hill song cover . I'm actually getting inspired by to play this on my retreat again . Good stuff brother , God bless!
@CHernandezIII It's either a triplet starting off with two bass hits and toms together, or a roll with two bass hits and two tom hits repeating, couldn't really tell I couldn't hear it that well.
I've been watching your videos and got curious what 'Laus Deo Semper' meant - I googled it, 'praise always to God!' Praise God for giving you such a talent, its great to see someone appreciating his/her talent back to where it actually came from. I play guitar but I really want to drums sometime haha.. :) Keep it up mate!
I appreciate that! I have plenty of Christian friends who are just friendly and loving. In fact, I'm married to a Christian. And I reciprocate the friendship and love to other Christians, especially ones I don't know. And I'll always recognize talent when I see it. And Cobus has it in spades!
@SCKMusic yes i think he did play in praise band, if you could see one of his vids where he shows where he records.. thats their church [: he records his vid during dawn..
That's a talent granted to you by God... Put it to good uses and bring 10 talents back to Him. I wish I could drum as well as you. I'm the church drummer, but most of the time I don't even play loud enough, let alone well enough. God bless you even more. P.S. I like your setup. Acoustic with electric. Nice.
AS you know he has a hybrid drum set. One of the electronic pads is programmed to emit that "peculiar" sound...he uses that a couple times in other vids as well
Just the regular beat all the way through the song, I think hes using the edge of the snare or a bounce technique on the snare to make it soound that way. I just have to get on my kit and try to see if I can duplicate it, its probably simple and I maybe have done it, but I sounds like two sticks hitting at a slight delay of each other.
Dude you are amazing!! You are my favorite drummer on UA-cam and then yesterday I found out your a Christian too! That makes you even better! Keep it up fellow believer
@lildrummerboii77 well drumming is just drumming. yes, he records it all at his church, and yes he believes in god, but it doesn't necessarily mean that he plays drums exclusively for god. i play drums, i don't do it for god, i just do it because i like it. but i'm NOT comparing myself to Cobus, he IS a legend. and i LOVE this song, and he makes it even better, which is just crazy.

Im pretty sure it's three hand strokes followed by two bass strokes in a triplet time with a one note gap between each tom. He taught it in a video on the cobus method. hope that helps.
This cover totally changed my perspective on drumming!! I always come back to this video when I am bored.
one of my favorite hillsong united songs! and as a fellow drummer I give you mad props! Awsome Job!
watching this video for more than 10x in a day is not enough..
I praise God for giving talent to those who are deserving and using it to glorify Him.
This is the most passionate drum video from Cobus that I've seen. Clearly it's pure worship.
As a fellow drummer and child of Christ keep doing your thing...God gave you this and it brings him glory when you play!! Do you play on a worship team at your church?
I'm a beginner drummer for my church and this has really inspired me! This is awesome.
I love it! PTL! i like the way u play it; super expressive n super devoted! That's what a passionate drummer is! Keep it on!!
dude. u are awesome. this is my favorite worship song, and i drum it every other week at my youth. not nearly as friggin sick as that dude. keep at it, man
wow, i respect you who ever you are, i've never seen an athiest that doesn't put someone down or hate them for there beliefs, thank you!
WOW, i have to say, its really nice seeing you play that song there arent many people willing to dedicate what they do to god. keep up the AWESOME work!
Cobus, you have great talent that the lord has blessed you with and also a great opportunity to reach out to people on your channel! keep it up, my friend!
Wow.... man, your drumming is an inspiration and a blessing. I'm a drummer myself and you're a great role model!
My respect for you just sky rocketed! I was not expect a christian cover at all, never mind you singing along to it! Christian love bud!
Please do more p&w songs! I'm a visual learner and it helps me improve on the p&w that I play. God bless!
@greenamon It is a hard one. The main parts you have to control are your feet. To type it in words, it is bass-bass-tom-floor bass-bass-tom-floor bassfloorcrash bassfloorcrash. I think that's it.

glad to see a such a talented person doing good work for the lord
As an atheist, I respect his talent. His drum covers are the best I've seen.

perfect timing, notes is all clear... you're good bro keep it up for the glory of our great God
Lol I remember playing this song when I was 13 as a drummer in the Music Ministry. You definitely touched my childhood. Keep on going man. GodBless
@CHernandezIII It's either a triplet starting off with two bass hits and toms together, or a roll with two bass hits and two tom hits repeating, couldn't really tell I couldn't hear it that well.
@DrumsPlayer13 there arent any black things there, apart from the screws on the insides of the shells. He has O rings for tuning purposes...
Dude mann wayy to goo! You play drums with a passion and i líke thatt bro, great video andd drum cover! Love it, keep praising god and god bless youu
I've been watching your videos and got curious what 'Laus Deo Semper' meant - I googled it, 'praise always to God!' @CHernandezIII roll the sticks on the drums I'm guessing. so its just a R then L then R but the bounce adds extra hits.
If you play for a church they are seriously blessed to have you....you have amazing talent keep gloryfying God through your playing. God bless =)
I love that fill at 1:22. I try to always throw in some variation of it when I'm playing this song.
Nice.
so many fills so smooth man i got to practice i wish i could play that good for my youth
AS you know he has a hybrid drum set. One of the electronic pads is programmed to emit that "peculiar" sound...he uses that a couple times in other vids as well
this is awesome im going to motivate my self my self to play do yu have the music sheet for this???
Of all the videos I've watched this is my fav! I love the parts where you sing is :)
Keep it up fellow believer
..wow dude..youre so amazing..you put spirit and love in your drums..awesome..
it's awesome to see the drummer actually get into the song

@lildrummerboii77 well drumming is just drumming. yes, he records it all at his church, and yes he believes in god, but it doesn't necessarily mean that he plays drums exclusively for god. i play drums, i don't do it for god, i just do it because i like it. but i'm NOT comparing myself to Cobus, he IS a legend. and i LOVE this song, and he makes it even better, which is just crazy.
