Rob couldn’t agree more. Deadfall can get a result for sure. If I set any type of snare I stay close by to quickly dispatch. I have seen many time chew throughs and twist offs all the time. Airplane wire and good old Leg holds...solid.
Donny, that is some awesome knowledge to pass along. Great point about needing to be at the level of the prey. Can you show better how you set the trigger mechanism?
Thanks for showing the set up twice and being very patient with this video. It helped a good bit on how to set this up. Again. thanks for taking your time and actually showing how it was set up.
I’m always trying to improve my skills and I see you’ve done the time. If you don’t mind, would you show how you make your toggle, etc in a close up? Thanks
Nice vid, but you need to show a closeup of how you actually set the toggle and trigger. The first example was just out of frame, and a bit too far away. Looks very effective, though!!
Million plus trapping videos on you tube, many people pretending to be something they're not. The BEST ones will ALWAYS have successful catches included in them, that simple
It looks like you are using the toggle, or trigger between the earth and the arch. Did you say flatten a spot on the arch and carve a point for the trigger so as to relieve as much friction as possible? A hair trigger in other words? I like it and Ithink I get it, but couldn't see exactly what you were doing.
Thanks ....kinda....please show how to set-up the trigger. Take away from this video was:you like this set &you know how & where to set it. Please show us how.
I am subscribed to this channel. A lot of good information that could some day save my life. My only complaint in the particular video you never show at least ONE clear shot of this snare set up. I had to watch this video 3x before I got the idea of how it works.
Great video and i went out and actually set it up with some cordage and it took me a few trys but it worked great. Thank you for teaching me a skill.👍👍👍
Hi Donny, loved the video. Other than the cordage, all made in the field. Even the cordage could be made on site. Really liked the the critter-eye view concept, really made the trail pop! New Subscriber.
Great vid brother, everyone is confused about the trigger mechanism because of all the debris in the actual chosen set point, and it makes it a bit difficult to understand. Perhaps you could show one with a white background like a sheet at home or if home is the cave (how cool would that be?), maybe film the parts against the boulder wall ? I read a few books a long time ago that i still have but unsure where..? The author of the book was Tom Brown, and he taught nife fighting to special forces, as well as survival and was a wonderful teacher. You are the only person who has actually instructed how to lower to level to track, no matters man or beast they leave tracks. He also taught of a technic he called spatter vision I believe he called it, and it's very difficult to explain but when you are walking through the woods and hoping to find a trail, you could pull back your vision so you aren't looking at a particular thing but open your eyes to see the world around you without targeting on spot. Sorry I cannot do it justice, but you would be amazed by what you can see ! I've seen five trails with a shared intersection when before I couldn't see anything. Now this is a skill set I know and has helped me many times and I'm guessing you know it too and probably call it something else, and perhaps can do it better justice than I. Think you so much for this video ! Although I kinda knew that way of searching for a trail, you are the first one to put it down to "as simple as that" kinda way, and I wonder why no one else covers this? We are all here to learn from each other I believe, but I wish more people would see things the way you do, and quit the posturing. Don't hold back anything. This one thing, if they will apply what these learned here a few times, they will be amazed at how easy it is to locate a trail and how they can routinely find them anywhere. All I could add is, get a book on tracking, to show you what you are following , how old is the track, or scat, even the sex, injuries they may already dealing with, but you must commit. Not every day, but learn one day a week where you go out for four hours to a park, or nearby woods etc.then more often when you can. I thank you brother. For keeping it real, honest, and truly understanding the meaning of giving.
Damien Deadson great question. When it comes to trapping you have to study and know the game you are attempting to catch. Know what they eat, when they eat and how often. If the trap is designed to ensnare the animal then the trap might not have bait. The trap might be designed to ensnare the animal as it passes through a game trail. Fish heads, nuts, roots, berries and insects typically work well.
this stuff doesn't work worth a hoot, dude. If you're serious, you carry some conibear steel traps, a silenced .22lr autorifle, some trotlines and a gillnet, and be ready to eat a lot of cattails and cambium.
Why not a 4WD towing a hot dog cart while you're at it? Primitive is serious, too, because if you're caught out without all that equipment and don't know primitive skills like this 'meal getter', then you're seriously screwed.
Looks like it works great. Now if only your hands werent out of view at the most important part of the video when you were setting up the snare, I might have actually learned how to set that thing up.
... worked it out. Press that U shape into the ground on both ends .. now you have an arch. The line from the spring branch has a short stick on it, that stick has a slight flat on one end. Pull the line down, and through the arch (the tension on the branch wants to pull it up) The other longer stick (with a point on it, just stands on the ground pointed up. The flat of the short stick rests on the point of this standing stick, stopping it from pulling through the arch and up (THAT is your trigger.) Now arrange your snare loop around the arch. Anything that puts it's head through that loop, to get at the bait on the upright stick, will jiggle that stick, allowing the short one on the spring branch to pull off of the point, and jerk upward. The snare loop will cinch.
best luck I have ever had is with Klpsey style trap or Spanish windlass trap... deadly but extremely effective...most animals will chew out of snare that is made from primitive cordage even 2o gauge wire
Chrmngblly I would love to show you, but is illegal in most states to use primitive traps. When I am in a state that allows primitive trapping...I will show you. This is a skill to know and have. I have used this one when permitted to do so on private land as well.
The U bow is a place to make sure tension stays on the spring. He makes a simple loop and sets the trigger hooked behind the U bow in a way that it slightly touches and almost slips, which would then make the sensitivity of the trap

a close up of the set trap would be nice
Great video. Need to see close up
Of how to set the trigger up..

Rick D said exactly what I wanted to say. It's an Awesome device, but I couldn't quite get the trigger mechanism. Thanks for sharing Sir.

What is the trigger mechanism
great tips. iv watched a ton of these videos and your tips are new to me
I can't see how the trigger is set??
What would you use for bait? Something available there in the environment?
I am subscribed to this channel. A lot of good information that could some day save my life. My only complaint in the particular video you never show at least ONE clear shot of this snare set up. I had to watch this video 3x before I got the idea of how it works.
great snare
Must admit, trapping, snares, are deffinetly something I'm not yet proficient at yet. This deffinetly simplifies the process. Love your videos.
Sorry I'm hard of hearing.. Love the video man keep up the good work
Good guy nice video nice trap thank u sir so much .
Great video and i went out and actually set it up with some cordage and it took me a few trys but it worked great. Thank you for teaching me a skill.👍👍👍
Ok but how is that trigger set, this video dosen't show
Looks good, nice trap. Thanks for sharing.

Maryam Ali Jan just a pity he won’t catch ANYTHING in that trap!,!,

Appreciate that greatly. I am not the best making videos but I try. Thanks for the sub.
Couldn’t see the trip mechanism. 😢

Nice snare thanks enjoyed the video.
Right on man.. I learned a ton there.. thank you
Didn't quite get that until the end very cool , hunting skills something everyone should have ,,, ya never know !
Did you go on "alone"?
Show more information on the trigger AND things
You be really good if you could actually see how it sat on the toggl and the trigger and all that
look closer., use full screen
Excellent tutorial! Thank you for sharing.
The trap lesson was good but you needed to show us how to make and set the trigger. Get general idea but need closer look.
That's a good trap. Thank You.
That is what most people would call a twitch up snare.

Great demonstration, thanks
Great job buddy, enjoyed it1 ... M.
You blocked the camera view of how you were setting up your toggle for your trap
Excellent video but just a litle bit soft spoken like the animal is there and you don't want to spook it
Good stuff. What would you use for bait if you didn't have any? What in your surroundings would be the best to use, I mean. Thanks.

You use peanut butter
cant see any part of trigger etc sounds good
Can't see the setup mate
nice shemagh belt! Cody Lundin style! :D
What is a good thing to use as bait?
Caviar...
Thought would see a catch
all with you donny !some of your arm chair host need to get too! the wood's!

You are a genius (or at least smarter than I am)
anybody actually see the close up of the "trigger point"?
😎 what all you catch !
What about if the animal comes from the other direction?
You need to focus more on the set up thanks
best luck I have ever had is with Klpsey style trap or Spanish windlass trap... deadly but extremely effective...most animals will chew out of snare that is made from primitive cordage even 2o gauge wire
trigger switch is the key element but you didn't show it
Love the name.. "Meal get'er" LOL
Thanks "B"...0352. From "D"...0331.

3:40 top left corner above rock you got a sasquatch wondering what you are doing

Can we see you actually catch something?

@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks Yeah most hunting and trapping laws are stupid. It's one thing if it actually does some good, but most are not sensible.
your spring pole is green. will become week after a while a dry spring pole be better
Rick grimes?
I call it a spring snare
I don't understand the point of the u stick arch
The U bow is a place to make sure tension stays on the spring. He makes a simple loop and sets the trigger hooked behind the U bow in a way that it slightly touches and almost slips, which would then make the sensitivity of the trap
Does your wife know what you have done with the duvet cover ?
