What I love about this game is that it leaves things still quite mysterious. In the Fate of Atlantis comics, Nur Ab Sal says that Horned Beings from out of space arrived in Atlantis, and as quickly as they arrived, they suddenly vanished. But before parting, gifted Atlantis with knowledge of technology. This lead to the Atlantis folk desperately wanting the horned beings back, which they viewed as Gods. So they took the technology they had to craft the God Machine, which failed and turned most into horned mutants instead. This is all mostly just implied in game, with the horned statues made likely to honour the beings, but no real evidence in game is ever found, which is what I love. However, we get small hints and theories of alien life, which like Bjorn mentions, beings not of this earth etc.

I appreciate Doug Lee's Indy because he does a good job of capturing the spirit of the character. While it's obvious he's not Harrison Ford, I have no problem believing he's Indiana Jones.

He’s probably delivered more lines for the character than Ford given how much dialogue is in these games

This game is from the early 90s at the latest. There was an early version with no voice, just subtitles, music and sound effects. When cd-rom was developed, they made the version with voice.

If you want to know how the branching stories work mechanically. Basically there'll be a point where you choose the approach Indy wants to take going forward which determine the branch you get on. Each branch uses mostly the same locations but in different orders and with different puzzles. Then they all converge for the final big section of the game. I'd consider it worth trying out all 3 branches, so you may want to make a save when the choice comes up.

One thing to note about this game is that while the story is original, it does borrow quite a few set-pieces from "Raiders", and I always wondered how intentional that was - I literally listened to an interview with Noah Falstein this weekend where he said it was *very* intentional. I can only guess that the video/computer game rights to "Raiders" were in a form of legal limbo (I think they were owned by Atari in the early '80s and could have gone anywhere following the crash and subsequent collapse). Plus it allowed them to come up with an original story that served the game better.

This was the first LucasArts game I ever fully solved, so excited to see an LP! Also yeah, the music can be a bit overbearing at times (especially Tikal, probably my least favorite music track in the game).
Heimdall's theory about Atlantis secretly being an alien civilization was one of several theories about Atlantis that made it into the game. Probably the least popular theory today, but eh, times change.

Considering this LP is now over a year old, you probably already know this. The Fate of Atlantis was never featured nor mentioned in any of the movies, however it IS based off unused material ... I guess you could call it a script for the 4th movie in the franchise. Mind you, that was a long time before Crystal Skull which eventually became that 4th movie.
There was actually two of these made, one of them being point and click, the game you played through and the other one called "The Fate of Atlantis: The Action Game" which was a complete disaster and eventually faded out in time. Basically the platform shooter, which barely has any sense or story, except for the fact that it uses the same characters, from the point and click version.

I always think it is odd and illogical to envy other people playing a great game for the first time. It's like I had my time. Now it is theirs. Happy for them. Why should I be envious? Then some one plays a game like this and I feel kinda jealous. I get by anyways by playing it again for the first time by proxy.

  • @Otokichi786

"Fate of Atlantis" would have been more interesting than "Crystal Skull," but LucasArts was history after Disney got their dirty mitts on it. You don't have to save the game constantly? On the contrary, save after you do something significant, as with a Sierra Online game.
