Listen to the RFK crowd! The band in the background, Summerall & Brooksheir on the call of the second game of the CBS Doubleheader, great memories!

Good Lord, haven't seen this in 49 years. Exactly as I remember it. Was a big, yet die hard Vikings fan back then, Watched all the games all their SB losses etc.
One of the greatest regular season games of the 70's . Was so proud of them for coming back from a 21 point deficit. I had no doubt Fred Cox would miss that last second field goal, even if it was defected.
Earlier he missed a short kick as well as a critical PAT after the Vikings took the lead 23 -17....do the math, SMH !!

Minnesota was down 24 to 17. The touchdown with missed PAT cut it to 24-23. It was a heck of a comeback though.

@@johnboothe6398 Yes, you're right. I said do the math cuz I sucked at it ;). If the Redskins took a 21 point lead , how could the score be 21- 17 Vikings....? The PAT was for the tie.

Holy shit, I remember this game, I was in 6th grade and my mother screaming at me to go to sleep lol - I had school the next day, Fran Tarkenton was running around like he was 20 years old, As a Viking fan I was not too sad to see them lose - my father was a big time Redskin fan so I was happy for him. - My father told me - Thats ok Johnny, your team the Vikings are better they just had to fix the game for my team to win tonight, they did not want the fans to be mad. lol. lol- I believed him lol

I will never forget that game. All a
Was lost for my Skol in the 1st half but they caught fire. In the end it was Billy bringing Washing back to win after they lost that lead. I was crushed. Missed school the next day. That's when I took those loses as if my life depended on a Vikings win or lose. I was 11 you see. That's when Washington was a great football city. Today with this current owner is arse. They should have paid an India tribe in the area to use their name and likeness. Thank God theirs no problem with the use of the name Vikings. This just in. Norway is calling 😆 Skol

First of the two games I attended at RFK over the years. One of the best regular season games I have ever attended. One I will always remember. RFK was electric. Perfect late afternoon fall setting played under the lights. The sites, the smells, and the sounds are all etched in my memory. This was the NFL I used to love. Grant vs Allen. Purple People Eaters & The Over The Hill Gang. The NFC at its finest. Chuck Foreman was an absolute beast. Still don't understand his exclusion from the Hall of Fame. First half was a dud for the Viking fans. The RFK crowd was bonkers. Tarkington was taking a beating. The Vikes came out in the second half and what a shootout. I was sure Fred Cox was gonna hit that last kick at the gun. I was drained after that one. It was an epic battle. What a performance these 2 teams put on. I was always so blessed that my family loved the game.

I remember my 9 year old self watching the screen as the kick was blocked.
The 2 Super Bowls before and this kick did nothing to prepare me for the Hail Mary to follow!
Thanks for giving me the gift of clear youthful memories!

@@mediadugout2684 Washington was in the midst of possibly the toughest 7 week run in the history of the NFL where they played 3 overtime games against playoff opponents and this nailbiter against the team with the best record in the NFL. They eked out a win the next week with a Moseley kick at Atlanta setting up essentially a playoff game the next week at Dallas where they led 10-0 after the first quarter and was trailing 14-10 in the fourth quarter before Billy Kilmer and his team ran out of gas missing the playoffs

On the blocked field goal at 1:20, Mike Bass (#41) almost pulled a Leon Lett 18 years before Leon Lett! #53 McClinton knew not to touch it, but apparently Bass didn’t know the rules. Lucky for him he didn’t lose control of the ball… that might’ve tarnished his legacy as the guy who scored on the Garo Yepremian play.

Time had expired, so he probably was safe....

@@stevenzimmerman4057 You’re probably right, since the ball wouldn’t have been considered live until Bass touched it, which, as you correctly state, was after time had expired, whereas when Leon Lett touched the ball against the Dolphins, there were three seconds left. Either way, though, there was no need for Bass to attempt to recover the ball, either before or after time had expired.

Bass dove on the ball thinking McLinton accidently touched it with his leg

@@howardcosell2022 after your comment, I just now looked at the play again for the first time in a while, and I think you’re right. I hadn’t noticed before that Bass was waving his teammates off, saying not to touch the ball, so he clearly DID in fact know the rules. My bad.
