Hand technique question: YOu got close to answering this question in the above video but not close enough. Place your hand palm down on a table. Pull your fingers together parallel as in a cobra formation. Can you spike a ball (a very hard and fast spiking action) in this hand formation just using the fingers? The ball bounces off the fingers much like it bounces off when the palm is used. That is to say that the fingers don't swipe at the ball; more of a slap and does not cause any backspin of the ball. Thanks for replying to this question
I really appreciate your videos! My friends and I always little arguments about nuanced rules, I think this video in particular will help clean all that up, thanks!
This was great thank you! I love how you started your dialogue about playing in high school because that was basically my thought process for seeking tips about sand before going to play today 😂
Great video! Especially cool to hear about how rules have changed over time. Question about touching the net -- If I'm blocking and the attacker hits the ball into the net which pushes the net into me, is that a net violation?
What about creative play rules? If the ball looks like it's about to hit line, can we throw sand (mother nature) at it to make it go clearly out of bounds? Can teammates jump on other teammates back for ULTIMATE blocks/spikes? Can we build a mound next to the net so we can gain a bit of height advantage? If one of the opponents crosses the center line, can we pull a SOCCER move and fall down dramatically so that the rule of "Cannot cross centerline interfering with opponent" can be enacted and we gain a point?
9.1.3 ASSISTED HIT Within the playing area, a player is not permitted to take support from a teammate or any structure/object in order to hit the ball. And regarding acting, it's the judgement of the referee. If he believes you then you might get away.
The part about the carry is great but the setting in beach is getting awful, at least what I am seeing in these younger games, letting this deep dish sets sit in the hands forever! Great video for beginners.

Great timing of the video. Would have liked to see more explanation on why you cannot dig overhand in beach volleyball unless it's a hard driven spike.
You can, but it has to be as clean as the normal second touch set. Indoors you are allowed to double the first ball with fingers, so any non setter player can take the first ball and not get called a double.
The thing that is still not clear to me is what exactly to call when the set is more of a slap. Or if hands are apart. Could you maybe cover this in a short?
eyyo, I was playing outdoors today, people wanted to call me when I was going to attack the ball, instead of spiking (I was going up like I was going to spike), instead, I kept my fingers together and gave it a light dink, not with my usual knuckles. Is this a legal hit or not?
@@jomarcmariquina Ball hitting the antenna is "out". When players of both teams had simultaneous contact with the ball prior, then the ball hits the antenna, the referee will whistle for a replay of that point.
OMG, I understand if your coach tolled you not to make slappy set to make it the best, but it's not about rules! .... experts, aha... Only double or catch and through (not even "carry", there is no "carry" mistake). Rules are pretty clear, but yes, referee can call kind of mistake, bc they follow habits or tradition or practice instead of following rules, not professional
it's not illegal to make first touch with open hands. It's "forbidden" only to feel exceptional. Rules are the same as indoor, referees are not professional. Everybody is following tradition, not rules. Why not to change rules or tradition? To confuse beginners? To feel exceptional? Why guys you don't explain or discuss it? Wow! I did not know that the block counts as a touch in beach. 😨 So glad you pointed that out! 😎

This is a great video for beginners. You guys always explain and break down things in a simple but detailed way.

No it is not because the net touch ist not caused by your action

Lots of differences between indoor and outdoor. So glad I watched this so I don't make an idiot of myself lol Hello from Navarre Beach, FL 😁

Man I needed this
When you block can you get your hands over the net? How much?
Hi, does this apply to 4v4 as well? Thanks!
10:34 It’s ok to control the ball when blocking an overset ball. Otherwise great vid!
you guys are great
13:19 why is the serve receive allowed to set the ball in this instance?

slapping overhear for first touch I thought was ok (if not ideal) as long as your hands are together/touching - not true? thanks
can i spike with a top spin hit/ have my whole hand touch the ball at the same time ?

What happens when the ball hit the antenna and the ball went in? I know you said if it above the antenna it s out.

i can bump, set and spike, my favorite response from non competitive volleyball players :D
how is that mikasa vls 300? I got one from amazon recently and it is not round. does that happen to your vls 300?
3:23 Why would you get in trouble if its not against the rules?
Same here. "It's not illegal but the rules are strict". So which one is it? 🤷
Same here
Is it ok to set the ball behind you and over the net if your back is square? I see this all the time
yes, as long as the direction of the ball leaving your hands is perpendicular to your shoulders, it is legal.
if it's over the net then it's not a set but rather a hit?
The other man with no shirl kinda looks like Harry kane😅
We'll make sure to tell Brandon !

1 or 2 instead of 3 touches are legal. You are talking about rules. Same like slappy set is bad but legal. Don't mislead beginners
Why are you talking so close? You look like you want to start a fight.
I guess that happens with volleyball rules 😂
*when you can’t wear a mic because it’s a beautiful day in California! Gotta be close hahaha.
