Thanks for stopping by friends! I'm back with my Christmas kitchen, and I'm making Apple Stack Cake, a very traditional cake for this season here in Appalachia. I linked a recipe in the description box above. Let me know if you've ever made it and how yours varies. I found some vintage items on eBay that were like some used on the set of The Waltons, and I love how my kitchen turned out for Christmas🙂 There is also a blog post with photos and more details: www.whisperingpineshomestead.net/2023/12/farmhouse-christmas-kitchen-inspired-by-the-waltons.html
What a joy to see you bake with a simple hand mixer, and to watch you cut the dough with your hands rather than a dough cutter. All those fancy appliances are so expensive, and take some of the joy out of cooking and baking in my opinion. Your kitchen looks beautiful!
I have the currier and Ives' dishes too, I've been collecting them for a little while. Every time I use them at dinner with friends, someone always comments that their grandparents or parents had them too. I like to think that it brings them good memories and makes them feel at home.
This to me is a home. We didn't have much growing up but I never knew it. My mom always thrifted and acquired things at yard sales and in my opinion we had a prettier home than our "better" off relatives. This really warms my heart.
The nature footage in the beginning looks like a painting. What a blessing to be surrounded by such incredible beauty. YOur kitchen just speaks of home. It is so cozy and warm. The fabric is beautiful on the sink and window. And of course, the apple layer cake under the dome on that gorgeous green glass cake plate.... wow. My spouse who has been gone 22 years now, use to drive long hard hours as a truck driver, He would get home in the middle of the night, He said knowing there was something sweet under the dome in the kitchen counter waiting for him was such a blessing. He would have a glass of milk and a slice of something sweet... and sleep like a baby. Merry Christmas Anita.
I love all the little nostalgic touches, and oh, that sweet black kitty (kitties) lounging around in the warmth of their home on a snowy day, with the smell of apple stack cake and candles flickering! Such a warm and comforting scene! Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!
What a delightful celebration of the blessings of Christmas! I especially loved the collection of candy dishes and the fruit grouping. It reminded me of Christmases long gone by. Thank you for posting this beautiful and inspiring video. What could be more fitting than a salute to the Waltons, coupled with your own lovely heritage!
So beautiful Anita! I can’t get enough of the lovely Appalachia mountains and your so very welcoming home. The guitar music was a perfect accompaniment and I wondered if that was your husband’s contribution? My favorite Christmas video this season. Merry Christmas dear one!
Thank you so much Carolyn! Luis is only playing one small clip on an Appalachian instrument called a cittern, at the 5:25 mark:-) He is so busy it's hard to get anything recorded, but we are going to try!
Western NC mtns here...just found your channel! Your kitchen is lovely and a wonderful tribute to "Walton" style. It is my style as well...I call it Appalachian nostalgia. Amazing how many of the same items, transferware, etc. Thanks for sharing. Blessed Christmas!!!!
Anita, I loved your opening. It really reminded me of the hills of West Virginia where I grew up. Your kitchen is amazing, I'm sure everyone who visits feels welcome. Have a very blessed and Merry Christmas.
I was born and lived my first three years of life in Eastern KY. My mother married my step-father and moved to WV just a few months before I turned four. I still live in West Virginia. My teen years were spent with the family gathered together, watching The Walton's. Most of them have gone on now, but those are precious memories we made. 😊
Everything is so amazing and peaceful to watch. The cake looks so delicious 😋 and the table is just perfect for the holidays ❤🎄☺️the curtains came out beautifully and the music 🎶 is just right 🥰👍🎄💕
Beautiful! Love the music too! I always loved the Waltons and think it’s so cool how you’ve been able to pull in similar decor in your home. Merry Christmas! 🎄
Wow, what a cake!! Looks delicious! Loved the way you did your house this year with the 1930s in mind and The Walton kitchen. As always looks very cozy and inviting! Merry Christmas to you and your family Anita! Thanks for sharing as I look forward every year to seeing your awesome Christmas ideas!
You have such a beautiful serene channel. I too live in the Appalachian mountains. There’s no better place. 😊 I remember my mother making this stack cake from apples she had dried. I have a lot of wonderful memories growing up.
Günaydınlar ben Türkiye den Gülseren 🎉 Harika eski günlerini hatirlafim nostalji bir mutfak ben böyle mutfakları seviyorum ve evimde hep antika şeyleri alıyorum kek çok güzeldi afiyet şeker olsun yeni yılınız şimdiden kutluyorum Saglikli huzurlu gunler olsun İnsallah
This was such a beautiful video. When I was in my late thirties (now 70) we were living in Virginia and I begged my husband to take me to see the real Walton house in Schuyjer. It looked very much like the one on the show except, to my disappointment it was surrounded by a chain link fence to keep some sense of privacy. Your kitchen is my dream kitchen,
Thank you so much!! Yes, I’ve watched several video tours of the actual house, and it definitely had a more traditional floor plan and smaller rooms☺️ It also seemed strange for it to be on the side of the road that way too. Someone there in Schuyler actually combined the exterior and interior sets to create a bed and breakfast very much like the actual set. I think it’s called Olivia’s B&B🤔
So very beautiful. I loved looking around your kitchen. I never was taught how to use a serger but I should learn. Love the material you chose. Merry Christmas to you and your Family ~ Janet 😘
I enjoy your videos so much!! My husband loves apple stack cake…unfortunately I cannot replicate his grandmother’s cake, gosh I’ve tried. Your kitchen is so pretty sweet friend!
Thank you so much!! It was a shot in the dark as my mother doesn’t make it, and aunt Kate has been gone for years, but it turned out really good, I think☺️☺️☺️
Does the door in your kitchen lead to a pantry? LOVED this video and it's exciting to see that we share the same Currier and Ives dinnerware, Pilot Knb coffee can (mine is sans handle) and I have one small dripware syrup pitcher. Oh, and our black kitty Marty...ha-ha. Merry Christmas!😊
Yes Michele, it goes to a pantry/mudroom/laundry. My husband has been planning for a while to build some shelving in there for me, but we haven't gotten to it. It's a nightmare really:-) Love that we have the same things too!!
Thank you so much!!! 😊 I've been using Florasense clear lamp oil from Walmart for years, but they've been out of stock for the last two. I'm finishing up what I'd stored and just bought Lamplight Farms clear lamp oil, so I'll be trying it next. Hopefully it's as good as people say!!
first time viewer, love your kitchen, the hand towel rack is just like what my grandmother had, where did you get it? it's the one where you can hang more than one towel or dish cloth up to dry, and Grandma hung it on the side of her cabinet by the sink like you did....would love to have one for my kitchen.
I’ve heard of this cake but have never tried it. And I do have a plethora of dried apples so maybe it’s time. Anita do you have a P.O. Box to receive cards, I can’t locate one, thank you. Beautiful video❤️
Thank you so much☺️☺️☺️ Definitely try the one I linked in the description. I did add ginger to the dough, though. I don’t have a box that’s public, but maybe I should look into that☺️☺️

Must smell so good while it's baking, love the pyrex bowls 👍🎄🎀
Definitely smells wonderful:-) Yes, I love Pyrex and have a few different colors that I use all the time:-)

Oh I love them - any Currier and Ives winter prints, calendars, etc., I just love:-)
