I'd love to see the 1990 Red Superstakes again when Fanna guided him with a superb front running ride in the muddy conditions to hold off Khadullah et al. Took everyone by surprise because very few thought (or remembered) that the Viceroy could sprint beyond a mile. But only the great ones can do that.

Winston Griffiths my favorite apprentice in. 1973-4 before FANNA I think his first win came aboard Utter Bliss he never looked back AWESOME jockey rode with the best of them . Caymanas Park with Mr Langford waiving the flag for a start and Desmond Chambers in the broadcasting booth. Fond memories.❤️❤️🇯🇲.
The great Viceroy with the record breaking Fanna easily winning this one. Starting in 1986, Griffiths dominated the derby. Awesome achievement regardless of how easy most were. And to think he narrowly lost 2009 on Bruce On The Loose to Ellis on He is really OK. I don’t think Fanna’s derby/TC record will ever be touched.
Family, Fanna won about a dozen Derbies. Logically anything is possible but it’s not likely that anyone will even come close to that record. The Viceroy won easily yes but on t r other hand trainers always try to find the right jockeys for the job.
Fanna mostly got armchair rides. The three best Jamaican jockeys of all time are George Hosang, Charles Huasey and Emilio Rodriguez (in no particular order). Also Fanna never ventured overseas, unlike the aforementioned three jocks, who all had successful careers abroad. Good, decent and honest jockey nonetheless.
A great one...I remember him beating top rated sprinter distinctive bingo in a sprint race w/narry...also remember Geogie winning the superstakes beating milligram...
Bless Rohan you remember three fillies that had a hell ever three year old confrontation namely good prospect ,this buds for you and classique hope I have them right

This was one of those greatest moments in Jamaica racing history,The very great Viceroy in record time.He was sired by Ribot if I can remember well.Then the other two greatest ones were Appeal Court ( the stayer )by Carolina park and Legal Light sired by Element. The Viceroy was one of those very special and magnificent horse in the annals of Jamaica Thoroughbred.Great memories for me.
I was a big fan of The Viceroy. It was a pity that his sire, The Peacemaker, didn't live long enough to carry on for cornerstone stallions like Zaleucus, Baghdad, Element, Mr. FJC.
The great viceroy. But only thing fanna got wrong never ride him in the 2000 guineas by choosing different horse because viceroy gelded 2 weeks prior to the race
The Viceroy is certainly one of the best horses to run at caymanas. This is a 🐎 horse that dominated the top class . Could win from 6 furlongs to 10 furlongs. Very versatile horse.
👍I left Jamaica when he came along and was about to dominate. So I remembered that derby but I knew he would be a beast to deal with for a while. The other horse that I really hold in high regard was Prince Consort. Especially after he represented JA well in the Caribbean stakes back then. We always send big horses there and they end up underperforming. He put a stop to the Bajan and Trinidadian horses dominance. He was a beast when he was healthy.
@Rohan Pandohie,I love how you are uploading some great races,can find/upload (well) 2 races really fanna and ricky griffith from barbados win an horse name (babrebadin) I am not sure if the horse is spelled correctly but ricky griffith beat Bartley the year before and fanna put him in his place the next year..I can't remember which horese fanna was ride but I was right there in the grandstand for both races
The one and only Jamaicas best big race jockey, the one arm swordsman Winston Fanna Griffiths. Yow people must remember enuh bimbo was Peanny top jockey,Fanna was Kiddy Mattis. But when bimbo left for greener pastures Peanny had no choice but to employ the services of Winston Fanna Griffiths. As usual you dun know big up yourself Rohan P. More fanna pan dem. Anytime.you see the boss make that crippling 3 furlong move tear up you ticket.
When bimbo came back for a stint at caymans park that fanna G would always have the pick of his horses and as you all know both fanna and Phillip went on to break all records as a team and what a team it was 💯
A horse winning by 9 lenghts......can never show a jockey at his BEST.......Fanna even had enough time to change his hold(a very rare moment)...he could even read a newspaper while winning that derby.The Viceroy was one of the greatest horses to run in Jamaica......many including myself see him as the greatest......Fanna was my favourite rider.. .but winning this derby did not bring out his best, Garfield Christie!
@@michaell3711 All great jockeys have had thier fair share of arm chair rides.....it can also be seen as a sign of a great rider.....one who knows how to consistently pick good horses!.....after all .....ALL riders want to WIN.....which one of them do you think would not relish arm chair rides?
@@michaell3711 Sometimes too...it was his brilliance that made some of those victories seemed like arm chair rides.... For example....Prince Consort was no stayer ( although he had some class....he was even flashing his tail and drifting out towards the end of the race.....showing signs of stamina limitations) when he won that derby easily....Persian Invader was bred to win that race.....Fanna used the pace of the horse and slipped away from the field.....( he used a similar ride to win his last Superstakes with FRANFIELD) .....giving Persian Invader on the other superior stayers too much to do....they just couldn't get back to him after that mid race move....That was Griffiths BRILLIANCE!.....I believed if a jockey like Bimbo or Hussey was on Persian Invader the finish would have been closer or perhaps Persian Invader would have won narrowly. He also slipped the field to win that derby with The Bomber...... was that an arm chair ride as well?

Yep...spence rode the guineas, Griffiths rode the derby and ramjeet rode the st ledger...he was also gelded..a week before the Guineas...and still won...

Viceroy was by The Peacemaker - La Galondrina ( Acer) a US and British bred mixed, La Galandrino raced in ja; she stayed.

The Viceroy was pretty much a Triple Crown achievement and I compare him to the great American Pharoah of USA soil.
