He would be a beast in today's game for sure
I’m from Salt Lake and watching Van Horn in college with this Utes was awesome. One of my favorite players of all time. He’d be a great 5 on any team that really wanted to space the floor with a shooter heavy lineup.
he is my coach
Every 6-8/6-9 powerforward with a J from the 2000s would thrive today
@Kings Will Soon Rise with spacing at a premium, why not? Duncan Robinson exists, so does Moritz Wagner.
red mamba cameo !
He would thrive today but he thrived in 2000s NBA as well. He got derailed by injuries. Anytime you have a 6'10 guy who can shoot, put it on the floor, score in the paint and rebound, you have a star, regardless of the era he plays in.
He was kinda soft early on. But that wouldn’t really matter much now
@@soramirez5473 i didn't think he was soft at all. He went head to head with Duncan in a bunch of close matchups and he did really well in the playoffs, going against Bulls in ECFs, i think (if I remember correctly my junior high school years).
@@mrvk39 uhh he WASNT an INSIDE presence, which is what was required from bigs back then. and the media, players and coaches all thought he was a bit soft. it may be from stereo typing white players, but he certainly wasnt banging down low like Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Charles Oakley, and other burly power forwards.. a lot of it was probably media noise, but he WAS more of a FINESSE player.. did he guard Duncan in the post? i dont remember.. sure if Duncan faced up, then Keith had a shot but in the post? i doubt it.
@@soramirez5473 it's a bit of a myth that bigs of that era HAD to always be inside. There was Christian Laettner, Sheed Wallace, Cliff Robinson - all bigs who were shooting 3s. So, no, there was no such label on them or VanHorn for being soft. In fact, Van Horn averaged 2 offensive rebounds per game, which was and still is great for a PF. And yes, he guarded him in the post when Timmy was at 4.
@@mrvk39 uhh yes there was a label on him for being soft. wether u agree doesnt change that.. Also Wallace and Robinson were NOT considered soft. Laettner WAS.. soft is not shooting 3s. Wallace and Robinson were good defenders and physical. Laettner and Van Horn were not. tho Van horn wasnt as "soft" as Laettner.. sorry pal. but ppl DID think that of Van Horn.
Great breakdown
Vanhorn was an amazingly talented player, skills for days. The trouble was he was simply too soft for the era he played in.
Today he'd do just fine, his softness wouldn't matter as everyone in the NBA Is soft now. His skillset would translate beautifully. 6ft 10in, good handles, silky smooth shot.
Great video.
Glad I found this video about van horn haha, I’ll sub
You love this Nets squad 😂 Great video 💪🏾
Never heard of him until now.. glad I watched
Watch those old lakers games
One of my low favs during dat era very underrated fasho fasho famo🥇🤝👌
My favorite player
Underrated
He's perfect for today's game
Imma be doing this by june
He would be a star in today's game....perennial All-star
He seems underrated. He was a 21ppg 8rpg in his second season
I remember this guy when i was play sonny playstation
To me Keith Van Horn deserves more credit as a player in the NBA and if he played in today's era I think he would be a good player. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.
I have a ton of his basketball cards. In 6th grade I traded about any card I had for his.
he was my favorite player too
lol. I traded some Kobe rookies for van horn and Duncan rookes
Ironic thing about Kenyon Martin was he got to be the scape goat the next year when Duncan forced him into 3-23 in the decisive game 6 [not a typo Martin missed from everywhere].
Van Horn against the Spurs could have pulled Duncan out of the paint and maybe scored to prevent the 9 minute fg drought in that 4th quarter that led to the Nets demise.
Rod Thorn made a huge mistake trading for Mutombo and putting him in the middle of an offense that requires the center to pass and move. Mutombo also was hurt and never made an impact even on defense for much of the year. It was Jason Collins.
Today he'll be buffed at young age, miss the socks van horn
I wanted van horn on Kobes Lakers. The Triangle we ran then would have played into his strengths.
Van Horn...Top 10 coolest surnames in NBA history.
For sure ! Tiago Splitter and sofoklis schorrsanitis gotta be up there too!
You have to put some respect on zarko Cabarkapa and Jake tsikitishvili then.
@@vivalavega Jake Tsakalidis or Nikoloz Tskitishvili?
@@LuckyRowlands nikoloz dude. Jake had a better career though.
@@vivalavegajust slightly better
he was an average player in his era, but he would be considered above average today ... the way the game is played is less about physicality and more about length and shooting, which is what he possessed
He was before his time like my guy Andray Blatche
I still see him and thinks he looks exactly like Eminem only a foot taller. Lol! Keith I thought was a very good role player but not someone you'd build a team around in his day. But he'd perfect for today: a big man with a great outside shot that could run the court and wasn't the most physical player
ทำไหมจะทำไม่ได้? เขามีทักษะในการยิง 3คะแนน ตัวก็สูง ❤
could be an all star in today's game
Definitely. His % would increase because of no touching on defense along the perimeter.
He would avg over 18 ppg for sure on 46% & 37% from 3
He was like a 6'10 Dirk Nowitzki.
3 caveats: he didn't improve much at all, he did not put in the work, effort on the court was also inconsistent. He didn't love the game it was just his job. His family was his priority and you can't argue that as a fault. It is just the reason why he never made the step.
If he play in today's NBA, he will be like, Porsingis or Bogdan Bogdanovic, or Michael Porter Jr.
Van horn a school these new ball players...it will be like training day
Lamar Peters paradigm shift? This guy’s G-league highlights look ridiculous.
Def wouldve been better for this era
He is more faster and a shooter than Jokic .. if he didn't retire early .. Yes, he could survive today's NBA.
If he could pass like Jokic he could have actually been closer to the Larry Bird comparison that some people threw around early in his career. Unfortunately he was only a moderate passer and on the drive he was below average as passer.
Love KVH. Gotta give love to the ballin whyte boys.
He is a poor man's Jamal Mashburn. Mashburn would smoke him though like he did Pippen for two 50 point games
Two completely different type of players. Mashburn was more ball dominant, stronger in the post, created his own shot more often to score, etc.
Mash would struggle in today's game.
He look like eminem 🤔
Them trading Van Horn was so messed up, and it backfired. Mutombo barely played, and when he did, he was old trash.
Before there was Kristaps Porzingis, there was Keith Van Horn
He'd be alright in any era. If he was a couple inches shorter he'd be working down at the BP.
Not athletic enough to exploit players at the PF. And he definitely is not a player that does the dirty work. Fun to watch when his shot is on. But too quick to lose confidence at the biggest time. Passing up open shots is his most annoying habit.
Athleticism was not the problem with him. His issues were attention to detail on defense, knowing where to be, and etc. Before Byron Scott his entire game was taking slower power forwards off the dribble. That is how he averaged 22 in his 2nd year.
He never added a floater with any arc so he was a victim of shotblockers. The NBA adjusted to him by sending help at him and he never became a passer or developed an in-between shot to counter it. That is how he regressed after year 2.
As the video notes the Princeton offense was a horrible fit but he still did decent. His issue was meeting Robert Horry in the Finals with Shaq behind him to clean up. He had no chance if he didn't have either a length or quickness advantage based on his skills. The Lakers also kept the Nets in the half court by constantly going to shaq and getting countless trips to the line.
His confidence was shaky that is true as you said.
@Johnnelson3665.
He was actually super athletic a lot more athletically gifted than Dirk for example. 6ft 10in, quick, agile and could jump out of the gym.
His problem was more so mentality as others have pointed out.
They tried to force this guy to play sf, which is basically a wing. Back then they were so fixated on forcing guys into a "position" and he wasn't big enough to play inside back then. He's a natural center,, he'd play center in today's game and he would be a very good player. Not an all star, but definitely a better fit for today's game.
