    No joke, or exaggeration, you are my favorite film maker, you legit made my favorite movie in the world when you made We Have to Leave Here Together, but everything you do, feature or short, has been a delight for me and I'm so thankful for your approach to filmmaking.

      Came here to comment on this too. Most of the self-references in the movie aren't call backs, they're call forwards.
      It's mindboggling that these were crafted in the making. Such a clever film.

    I’ve seen all your movies and watched this last one twice. I imagine the filming was so much fun. The editing/uploading sounds like a drag, but I appreciate the immense effort that goes into your productions. I’m always blown away by your way of filming. The long single takes. Beautiful and impressive shots. Hannah and Patrick were dynamite. Just incredible. This last one felt polished enough for the big screen.

    Patrick Quinn is one of my favourite painters ever his stuff really inspires me ,so it was very surreal seeing his paintings in the movie and then realising the main guy is actually him.
    Who would have known he’s also a great actor!

    • @TheSquareOnes
      @TheSquareOnes 4 місяці тому

      And now thanks to this comment I'm learning that he's actually a painter and wasn't just acting, Joel has a knack for finding some really talented people. Wasn't as surprised to see him in a leading role this year since he's been in a lot of shorts over the years and always killed it, if this is news you should definitely go dig through Joel's backlog since it's basically solid gold from start to finish.

    Joel. You are so inspirational. I recently "accidently" shot my first film following my journey of creating a music software company. Originally thought it would be a 10-minute video, but quickly blossomed into a 45-minute series cataloguing my growth as a performer, editor, and story-teller. The filming process reveled how difficult it is to "act naturally", which is one of your strengths. Do you have any suggestions for people like myself that struggle with this part of film-making?

    This is very inspiring to me as someone in their mid 30s who went to film school but could never afford to move to LA or intern or take a month or two off for a film, I feel like my life has been on pause for the last 10 years. Considering that you don't really have anything confining you to have to make your movies a certain length, I'd guess that you choose to cut them down a bit as a personal choice. So you'd probably not be interested in releasing longer versions, would you? Just curious, since you have a very interesting philosophy on movie making.
