    That device helped me a lot to become successful in this hobby. I always thought I have a bright light and hair algae growing because of that + high nutritions. But corals were not growing that well. I’ve looked for cheapest PAR meters and found this guy. When I measured it, the PAR was bellow 100 even at the top level inside the water. That was because I was using a lot of blue light and was hard to judge by the eye if it’s bright enough. I’ve measured all LED channels separately and found out that I need to increase white channel to achieve 200-300 PAR for my SPS. I did it slowly and it all worked well. All corals growing well, nitrates and phosphates are undetectable even though I’m feeding well, and no more hair algae. All because of light adjustment. I’ve also used Vibrant for a month, but I’m not dosing it anymore (last dose was like 3 months ago), because the tank looks too clean. So Seneye is a very helpful and affordable tool at least for PAR. I’m not using it for anything else, but thanks for the advice of using it with the Windows 10 stick. The one small flaw of the device - it can’t be used as any decent spectrometer, because it’s sensitive only to ~5 wavelengths and you can’t judge the whole spectrum of your light using only Seneye. But any decent spectrometer would cost at least 5 times more, so, it’s still a great deal.

    I’ve always enjoyed my seneye for par readings. I used it as a controller for a bit but upgraded to an apex a couple years ago. It’s a great option for those without the money for an APEX 👍🏼. Or as I use mine for...PAR readings haha.

    • @ThomasBReef
      @ThomasBReef 4 роки тому

      I think there is room to look at it as a redundancy to back up any controller with monitoring too! Especially for that ammonia monitoring, I really like watching that NH4 graph bounce around with organics. Its interesting to see what things I add cause the majority of NH4 increase etc.
      But 10/10 that PAR meter is so worth it even if that is all you need it for! I have both the Seneye and an Apogee USB PAR meter, and I prefer the Seneye since its always right there in the tank.

    The app and website tools have always been a bit clunky. There's a lot of tools/features such as sliders, zoom capability, reading single point values but the user interaction is incredibly frustrating. Something as simple as trying to drag the temperature slider to 76 degrees is near impossible at times. And I've had other issues with saving and retaining those values that I've hard set. I wish they would have put a little more time into the app, I've reported bugs and such directly to them but they don't seem to really ever update the software either. In any case, it is great for PAR readings alone but I haven't been able to justify the cost of the slides after the first year of use.

    Awesome hack! The Seneye is awesome but those replacement slides are what is killing me though. $10 a pack to replace every month, and you can't stock up because they have 12 month shelf life. Then you need to soak them for 24 hours before use, its all kind of a pain and expensive to maintain. Maybe if you're cheap like me you could just use a slide during the summer months when you are away from the tank more often or when you start to see unhappy behaviour in your tank as a sort of test kit. But then again that 24 hour pre-soak period kind of eliminates that use case since a lot can happen in 24 hours...

    • @ThomasBReef
      @ThomasBReef 4 роки тому +1

      What I do is pre soak the slide the day before I need to swap it so it is never without a working slide ;) passively soaking a slide beats having to sit and calibrate probes once a month!
      $10 a month is really reasonable for constant monitoring. Imagine how fast youd blow through pH and ammonia test kits if you tested multiple times each day!
      That said, everyone has different goals and budgets; it certainly isnt for everyone, but I think it is a pretty amazing device to back up your tank!

      Don't bother, you pay £100 for the device, then you have to pay £40 to unlock the light meter. I just got mine, I'm disappointed to say the least. It's a money pit, £45 for a 6 month supply of slides, the slides last 30 days, one of those days is lost due to how long it takes to soak. I'm gutted with it due to the fact I've already paid £100 for the device, then I'll have to fork out £40 to get access to other features. The app gives you basic information, it redirects to a webpage to view stats over time. I think it's a rip off and the development lifecycle was shabby. You have to pay extra for the power adapter instead of getting one supplied. I'm shocked at how much they're charging for everything. It isn't worth the money, look elsewhere. The suction cup is difficult to attach to cable. The web interface is under developed, they make it look better than it is, it isn't being maintained. The rezisizing of the widgets doesnt work very well if at all. The updates of the parameters is not real time. I'm a developer and this interface is really bad. It's way over priced and more money has gone into advertising it than developing it. Looking back, I'd go with an open source linux alternative such as a raspberry pi, for the price of just the dongle you'd get more for your money.

    Can you not shout.. The audio level on this video is ridiculous... The mic is inches below your chin, not across the room. Really hard to watch.
    Edit: couldn't finish the video - got sick of been shouted at.

      It's too bad that you bought a laptop/mobile device that didn't come with a volume control. Next time try to get one that allows you to adjust the volume of whatever you're watching.

      Huh? The webserver likely runs software that can so have vulnerabilities. You can keep your Windows 10 mini PC of stick oc pretty secure by only running what is absolutely necessary and configuring your firewall properly.

    Have you guys seen Parkers Reef's PAR testing on this unit? The Seneye seems to be way of some reliable PAR testing equipment out there. I would issue a warning on relying on the Seneye for PAR readings.

      @@BRStv Yeah! I saw it earlier. The reliability really comes to question when the testing is not consistent between units. Parkers Reef tested two that was significantly off (around twice as much) to two Apogee models.

    OMG! This guy is way too much. I’m sure he’s a nice bloke but this was like a crazy American infomercial with the presenter talking at 100mph and way too much like a hard sell. As for the product, way overpriced with fairly useless features except the par meter. And having to be plugged into a laptop or a WiFi repeater, that alone lost me, for $200 it should have a WiFi of its own!
