I DID IT‼ After 60+ years of sewing; I'm FINALLY making proper welt pockets.‼
😂🎉🎉Yesss. Likewise.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you for making my life easier😊
I’m proud of you very hard to change techniques but worth it
thank you for using voice and not background music only. very nicely done
Omg this is genius! Nothings stopping me from welting everything from here on out haha 😂
Definitely the easiest, clearest, cleanest welt method I’ve ever seen done!
I've seen loads of examples of how to sew a welt pocket and this by far is the best way to do it. It makes sewing fun a pleasure and fuss free . Also I love that you're video doesn't has horrid music playing with no dialogue. Straight forward plain easy to understand instructions. I am looking forward to seeing other videos that you have made . Kind regards from a gentleman in the UK. 👍🇬🇧🇺🇲
OMG!!! I feel like a superstar now!!! THANK YOU!!!!
This is by FAR the best video on welt pockets….and believe me, I’ve seen them all! Thank you!
Loved this way of making welt pockets! Great video! I used to dislike making them until now! Thank you so much!
Aha! Thank you for another great addition to our sewing arsenal, Catherine! Tailoring class 1985: Showed off my not-so-easy to make welt pocket to my Mom and her neighbor. My mom suggested I make a second pocket like the upscale store bought jackets 😮. Margaret saw my face and said, "Tell your mother, Then you wouldn't be able to afford it (the jacket)!" Still laughing after all these years.
Wow! I jumped off the couch as your video was ending to add a welt pocket to excersize pants! This is the easiest tutorial I’ve seen. I can’t wait to add pockets to my DIL leggings and she can stop putting her phone in her bra when teaching nursery school! LOL Thanks!!!!😊
Haha, Kathy, your comment made me laugh. So cute. I hope the welt pocket went well!
Thank you so much! Very clear and you show each step. I was able to sew the pockets for the vest thanks to your video.
The best welt pocket video!
OMG, what an honour to hear you say that!! But, I have to admit that I agree, lol! Thank you my friend!
this tutorial is extremely underrated 💜
now i just need to watch it 476 times before i feel confident enough about what i am doing to actually try it on the pants i like 🤪💜
Thanks, I think so too, lol. Before cutting into your pants, try it out on scrap fabric, just to make sure you're happy with it!
This is the best example for sewing a Welt Pocket! Thank you!
You are so welcome, and thanks for the support. I love this method and want the whole sewing world to see this video, lol.
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve made 4 attempts to sew a welt pocket using the pattern instructions and they were terrible. I knew there must be a simpler way. Thank you
Perfect! I have a waistcoat pattern that has no pockets and I need some to put my pock watch and such in and this is perfect for making custom pockets. I think I’ll have to sew along while watching though :)
Thank you ma'am for Showing me some good techniques in my sewing pocket.
Added a pocket to inside of jacket for storing a tissue. Such clear instructions. Found it best to shorten stitch length around corners as it easier to get accurate angles.
Thank you
NO BACKGROUND MUSIC! im subscribing...❤❤❤❤
Where have you been all my life? Finally I did a welt pocket without losing my mind and one day trying. This video is amazing. Thank you. Also the technique of starting from the middle...genius. 🎉
Nice clear instructions without music, thank you!
This video blew my mind! So many years complaining about "fake pockets" in my coats!! LOL
Thaaaank you !
Great video Catherine. I will definitely send the students over here to watch this one.
Oh, thanks, Amy! I think it really does simplify the process for students. Happy holidays to you!
I just made two beautiful welt pockets with black and white checker fabric with no problems at all. Opening of pocket is in bias. And pocket is diagonally placed on my jacket. It's so pritty I can cry, as you always say. I wish I can send you some pictures. I love your instructions it' spot on. I alway watch your youtube on TV when I'm sewing in my sewing room. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Wow! You are such a wonderful teacher! Your illustration is sooo clear and simple. Bravo!
By far this method is the most uncomplicated of all, yet yielding exact results!!🙏
I managed to sew the pocket hole shut from another tutorial, 😂.. gotta laugh
Thanks for this tutorial - it solved it; working pockets now!
Oh my! Your instructions were so amazing it gave me the confidence to put welt pockets in a $400 Masters graduation gown. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
thank you for this video!! first time doing this (after a quick test on some scraps) and it came out perfect!!
You are so gifted at making techniques easier-to-understand and within reach. Thank you! ❤
Just what I need - making pyjama pants for my sons, they want pockets in them (of course) and there's no side seam. Didn't want to put a patch pocket on so this will hopefully be the solution! Thank you for the clear instructions :D
You made it so easy. I abandoned the pattern and used your method. Thanks so much.
You are ingenious!! Now I can do it!!
I just realized that when I sent a comment, is showing as @charlesdelamotte my name is myong.
I've been sawing many years because of necessry, I'm 4ft 11" tall and weigh about 110 pound. I always have hard time finding any clothes that fits me well. I've been makeing my own outfits over 25 year, but I was always afraid to try welt pockets, so many pieces and it never comes out good. But with your instruction. I did it at first try. Thank you again
THANK YOU! Incredible tutorial 🎉
OMG, thank you so much for this video. I did get a little stuck a few times here and there, but thanks to UA-cam, I just ran it back and tried again. I did have to deviate a little bit near the end. But the end result was the same. Your video made this process so much easier. Thank you so much for making this video. It's definitely going to the top of my go-to tutorials for sewing.
I was so incredibly confused but after watching this video it seems so simple thank you!!!
I want to start making all my jeans with low profile welted cargo pockets for my phone on one side and wallet on the other. This is a great tutorial. I expect I will have to account for the weight of phone with at least a strip of velcro to seal the pocket - but I can't wait to get started. Subscribed and thank you !
This is so incredibly helpful, thank you so much.
Well done you an excellent video I've just started sewing and I'm making my first waistcoat and I was wondering how to get around doing the pocket good work thank you again.
Thank you! I truly appreciate this so much! I was scratching my head with my pattern instructions.
Thank You, thank you, thank you! I needed this!
I have to say how you make something so intricate looking so easy just amazing thank you and best wishes from Portugal
I just put in my first ever welted pockets! Thank you!

Best welt pocket tutorial! Thank you for your video!🎉🎉🎉❤
Thank you!!!! I made two waistcoats over the weekend and had to give them away for free because the welt pockets were a mess😖. This is such an easy and neat meathod, cannot wait to give it another try❤

Thank you so much I wanted to see awestruck pocket and couldn't I was so confused but you made it so easy ❤

Thank you I’m trying this today
This is brilliant!! 🥰
Fabulous pelt pocket.
Really great job! ❤
I’ve had my sewing machine less than a month and this was my first welt pocket attempt and it looks great!! Thanks!
Congrats, Stephanie! That's fantastic to hear!
Thanks so much for this 🙏
Fabulous pocket technique! Thanks.
Thanks!
Thank you SO much! That is very gratifying!
That’s kinda like add a zipper pocket to a bag. Cool. 😃
Wonderfull tutorial
This is fabulous. Wow so easy 😃
Thank so much I like it.
Perfect!
Thank you for the great instruction!
Happy Boxing Day, Catherine!!
Thanks, Maplecook! You too!
This is the best welt pocket attempt I've seen. I thinking of using this same technique for double welt's ?
This is a double welt, also called a jetted, pocket. A single welt has a "flap" extending up from the lower opening.

I so enjoy your videos. Great info, great presentation, especially for those of us with lots to learn. Did you say shacket for your next video? Sure looking forward to that!
Thanks for watching and for the lovely comment. And yes! I'm hoping to sew my shacket today and post the video by Friday or Saturday!
Very nice!!!
You are awesome!
Do you have a video about how to do this by hand when no sewing machine is available?
Great vid. The triangle piece u sew through. If your using material that freys easily...actually just answered it that why u use iron on interface?...😂 thanks great job
Great video. So simple. 8:31
This looks great! I want to add welt pockets to a pair of pants that I thrifted. Would I need to take the pants apart to make it easier to add welt pockets? I don’t have the same fabric to use since the pants were thrifted. The pants are dark green/black plaid, I think I will add black welt pockets in a similar weight fabric. Not sure whether to add to the front or back of the pants.
Wow, that is fast!
Looking for a good video with measurements and pressing instructions...yours is fabulous!! Wish me luck as a make a welt pocket on a shirt....:).
Happy new year Catherine 😍
You too, Jin! Best of luck in 2022!
Awesome video! Very clear and much easier than what I have done in the past. I wonder if there is a way to make a zippered welt pocket? Thanks!!
Thanks, Anita. With a zipper, there are other techniques that work better. I'll add that idea to my To Do list.
Could I use a shirt for fabric? Or jeans?
Seems a very good way of doing welts. As a total newbie my question is , does this only work if the inside fabric is the same as the outside or can I still use a lining fabric.
Asking because the mccalls pattern I have is got horrible square pockets on a nice trouser pattern so I want to modify it a bit.
Adding an additional after giving it a go and wow looks so cool.
So I'm doing a cosplay based on a Red Dwarf character called Rimmer . Using your instructions and modifying a little, I've done the back pocket on my trousers, which was originally meant to be a square pocket. I've used iridescent fabric for the welt fold to concise with the stripe down the sides. My only downside is where I gave myself enough extra fabric for it to sew in the waist I didn't give enough seam allowance for sewing the top of the welt.
But hey its a learning curve and now I know where I went wrong. Gr8 video that's given this chap confidence to try and learn.
I love you
Great tutorial! I’m still a bit intimidated, but I’ll definitely try this one out :)
Oh, yes, you'll love it! Thanks for watching!
Me again do u have a video on the breast pocket ? I know it's more slanted I just not sure of measurements distance from arm hole etc. I'm modifying my cosplay jacket really well but need to add pockets as they were not in the pattern.
No, sorry I don’t, but my friend Jin might. Check out Pattern Studio 101.
@CatherineSews OK thankyou
I'm trying to add a pocket to a fleece halloween costume. Should I use fleece for the pocket or some other cotton? Can I use interfacing on fleece?
I think fleece works great with this technique. And you can use interfacing, but be careful that your iron isn't so hot that it can melt your fleece. A pressing cloth or parchment paper can help with this.
Have you done a zipper one?
A zipper pocket? Not yet. But I have a few other zipper videos, such as a fly front, and two versions of a skirt zipper, and using an invisible zipper in a cushion.
Yeah it was fast too fast at the last even on 75% speed. It was difficult to see where you were stitching, camera too far away and your hands covered up important triangle area. I too will need to watch 100 more times and have all materials in front of me while I attempt to create welt pocket along with you. And many hours later maybe I can do it. Thanks for demo and sharing your tslent.
Oh, sounds like maybe I need to do an update on this video! It's such a great technique but it sounds like my film-making skills were not up to the task!
Way too much talking not enough crafting
I totally disagree and you’re rude! Where is your UA-cam channel?
Wow! Thank you!
