Same here... I am facing this dry eyes from last 4 to 5 years but still i dont know what is the main reason of my dry eyes... Dr.s never explain the reason their only focus is huge list of drops n medication in form of multivitamins.
I stay hydrated by drinking two gallons of water a day because of dry mouth due to hypoglycemia. The warm compresses are a big help and comfortable so I do them twice a day. The dry eyes started when I had a procedure to relieve the scaring on my face after an accident. The doctor melted the top ten layers of skin off my entire face from hairline to under my chin and ear to ear. It was in essence third degree burns and I grew new skin during the 14 days in recovery. Since then my eyelids seemed thin and light passes through them easily. Also they are tight and don’t seem to close completely. Therefore my eyes started drying out by the time I wake in the morning. Thanks for these tips for overcoming dry eyes. I enjoy watching you smiling, handsome face and besides you being so knowledgeable you are by far the sexiest eye doctor I have seen ever! I got dry eye after cataract and reparative vitrectomy surgeries recently. Using too much preservative free hydration drops only caused more problems. Seeing this video before (this is my second time watching) gave me the opportunity to get a gel eye mask for only $5 at my local pharmacy until I can find and order a moist mask. I warm it in the microwave for 30 seconds and it has helped a lot. The edema in my eye has gone down to normal. I also naturally thought to do wet warm compresses. I'm sharing this video on social media! Love all your videos!
In my shopping cart right now I have 2 or 3 omega 3 blood test kit's. Just trying to decide which one to get. I found it very interesting that it wasn't even mentioned in this video. One tip I can offer is that with the Bruder mask you don't want to make it very tight and you definitely don't want to fall asleep with it on. It presses on your eyeballs and can cause vision problems. I've stopped using the band. I just lay with my head pointed up enough that the mask stays in place. Then when I fall asleep and reposition, it falls off.
I find spraying my nostrils with saline spray is helping the flow of tears because I have learned there is definately a connection of blockage in the nasals that affect the eyes with draining in the tear glands. Also use distilled water - even minerals in drinking water can irritate the eye. Works for me
I suffer from blepharitis+dry eyes since 9 years, all these remedies are effective. And when sometimes i skip this routine, i can feel it, my eyes are more inflamed. Sometimes i also do a sort massage on the eyelids in the following way: 1-I wash my face just with some water 2-I put 2 drops of baby shampoo on the tips of my already wet fingers 3-I do a sort of massage on my closed eyelids for 1 minute, cirular clockwise, circular counterclockwise, linear .4 I risnse it off with tiepid water.
A routine that I have followed daily for several years at the suggestion of my optometrist is as follows: - Warm compress while gently massaging my eyeballs with lids closed for 4-5 minutes. (I kneel down at the bathroom sink with hot water running and wet with a washcloth so that I continue to keep that washcloth warm.) - I then massage my eyeballs with my eyelids closed as well as the bone underneath my eye for approximately 10 seconds. I do this with my fingertips. - I then put Opti-Free pure moist on a Q-tip and I move the Q-tip back-and-forth above and below my eyelash with my eyes closed. Or I sometimes use OCuSOFT eyelid cleanser and gently rub that over my eyelash area with my eyes closed. (Rinse after using OCuSOFT.) Additionally, I use a morning eyedrop and an evening eye gel in the form of drops. This is easier and less expensive than anything else I’ve heard of or read about and it has been extremely effective for me. The
"Warm compress while gently massaging my eyeballs with lids closed for 4-5 minutes. (I kneel down at the bathroom sink with hot water running and wet with a washcloth so that I continue to keep that washcloth warm.)" Instead of having the water running for 5 minutes constantly (wasting water) and having to repeatedly rewet the washcloth, use something that holds onto the warmth better. Try one of those masks that are meant to be put in the microwave or, if you don't want to buy something, try putting uncooked rice into a clean sock and put that in the microwave and it holds the heat very well...
I've been checked by more than 2 doctors. They just gave me drops and that's it.Im very frustrated but this video helped me a little to manage my symptoms, Thank you
have hypothyroidism I just went to the eye doctor took alot for me to go because my dad RIP used to be an eye doctor. Anyway the eye doctor said it is my hypothyroidism causing dry eyes.
I love tear restore because it stays warm for longer than others and it doesn’t put pressure on my eyeballs themselves. It puts the heat where it is needed.
Well i first wash my face dry it then clean my eyes with a eye cloth cleaner ,one you suggested. I then use a warm wash towel, I hold it on my eyes and keep warming up the towel as warm as i can stand it and put it on my eyes as i keep warming reheating the towel and holding it on my eyes for about 20 minutes. I do that often throughout the day . In the morning when i get up ,after I shower. Before I go out anywhere. As soon as i get home , later after a few hours I do it again . After dinner and before I go to bed. May seem like alot but I'm retired Thank you for your wonderful videos . Blessings 🙌
Dear Eye Doctor, thank you so much for generously sharing your knowledge with YT viewers. My blepharitis started around 13 or 14 but without accurate diagnosis until I saw an optician in my 40's. Just recently I have been using Thealoz duo drops for dry eyes. Good results so far along with the usual daily care. Best wishes, Roger
I have hypothyroidism I just went to the eye doctor took alot for me to go because my dad RIP used to be an eye doctor. Anyway the eye doctor said it is my hypothyroidism causing dry eyes.
Years ago, when I was young I had cosmetic eye surgery. Unfortunately, he removed too much skin which resulted in my dry eye condition. The same doctor did my nose job twice. I complained the first time. I now have a nice nose and dry eyes, One cannot have everything.
Tea tree lid soap/scrubs. Tea tree oil is anti-bacterial, kills (some) demodex (eyelid mites), and seems to help with tear production. I prefer the tea tree soaps over hypochlorous acid. I would guess that the hypochlorous acid is better at killing bacteria, but the tea tree oils are also anti-infective, and also kill the demodex (which I do not believe that hypochlorous acid does). I am also an eye doctor, and have noticed a dramatic increase with blepharitis and demodex that I associate with mask wearing... The tea tree soaps have been very helpful.
Severe dry eye sufferer here for more than 10 years. My routine as follows: 1. Wash eye lids in the morning with Thera Tears foam 2. Warm compress of 10 minutes followed by eye lids massage and a squirt of saline to rinse my eyes. Then eye gel drops. 3. Apply scleral lenses and use PF eye drops every hour 4. High quality Omega 3 supplements 5. At night cold compress after removing scleral lenses 6. VitaPos PF ointment before going to bed 7. Sleep with Eyeseals 4.0 moisture chamber mask At every step of the day I regret ever taking the decision of getting Lasik and ending up like this... I’m glad to know I’m not alone though.
Thanks for your reply! I got into scleral lenses due to the dryness, however they also give me the best vision as I do have a mild irregular astigmatism. Thankfully I live in The Netherlands, where many of these lenses are manufactured.
Did your severe dry eye start immediately after LASIK and not stop, or did it go then come back? I was fine for 5 years post-operation but now it's come back with a vengeance.
I saw my eye doctor today and asked about the pataday drops. She said I can use them. I have allergies and some dry eye. My visual field was good and no changes on the OCT. My pressures were still 20 and 17 but that's normal for me. I told her about your channel and she wrote it down. I told her you had great info on here.
me too I have dry eyes and allergies I have hypothyroidism I just went to the eye doctor took alot for me to go because my dad RIP used to be an eye doctor. Anyway the eye doctor said it is my hypothyroidism causing dry eyes.
I'm trying a wipe warmer for unscented baby wipes. I find them great for makeup removal and eye and face cleansing. The wipe warmer temperature will keep wipes between 115 and 125 degrees. Hoping this helps me to express my meibomian glands, as I clean my eyes, without having to really modify my routine, since I already have been using wipes for eye and face cleansing.
I have dry eyes from contact lens wear and also lots of screen time from my computer and video games. This is really useful! i always forget to use eye drops
@@DoctorEyeHealth Monster Hunter is where it’s at!! My husband and I bought two Switches to play together haha. Also, I was gonna ask if these things will help with dry eye from Sjogren’s? I just recently got diagnosed with it, and haven’t seen my eye doc yet (will this week) since getting diagnosed.
I have found that massaging under the brows, the eyelids, and under the eyes with castor oil is helpful. Also, I put a drop of coconut oil in the eyes, which helps. Much easier than sticky GenTeal.
Great video, thank you! I started drinking lots of water after having Lasik a few years ago and then I got blepharitis about 4 years ago. I do warm compresses every morning and haven't had it since. Artificial tears are great especially first thing in the morning.
Thank you so much. We got a heat pump and even though we have had a wood stove for ever the heat pump is worse making low humidity. Hanging towels has been helpful but we look forward to turning it off later in the spring since we don't need air conditioning. My favorite eye time is hiking and working on our farm while it is rainy or misty (Pacific NW) my eyes tend to say AWE and my skin doesn't mind it either! I was taking Doxycycline anti- malaria tablets when I went to work in Africa. My living quarters had a huge air conditioner above my bed. I was really afraid that this would be terrible for my dry eye syndrome. However, my eyes, incredibly, were fine. When I finally left Africa, the dry eyes returned. Some years later an eye specialist advised that I take Doxycycline to stimulate tear production.
Of course Hazy! Glad you like it and I hope it really helps you and everyone with dry eyes. I know my eyes are never perfect but I find my routine at least helps.
I find if I skip on sleep then my eyes are the first to let me know. I also use Gunnar glasses for work for my multiple monitors. Lots of water and eye drops maybe a few times a week.
For years I simply squirt my dry eyes with water whenever I feel like it. When I wake in the night, I can’t open my eyes (blepharitis) but after squirting them, they are functional after about 30 seconds and gradually normalize completely. Strangely, I have found that they open easily if I wake with a start from some noise, instantly. I haven’t figured out why yet. But I have to get cataracts taken out so I am sure I will be told to use drops so I am very glad to hear all this information.
Hey Tana! I find the waking up with noise bit to be very interesting. Thanks for sharing that. I wonder if it is like the waking up startled sort of thing that gets your eyes to open up. One important thing, at least when it comes to cataract surgery, you definitely want to take those eye drops before and after surgery. Very important for healing and preventing infection.
RECENTLY, I'VE BEEN USING A LITTLE CASTOR OIL DIRECTLY ON MY EYELIDS AT BEDTIME. MARVELLOUS. IT TAKES THE ITCHINESS AWAY AND IT'S NOT VERY GREASY SO I DON'T FIND A MESS ON MY PILLOW THE NEXT MORNING. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT.
So happy I found this channel. My eye doctor told me to just deal with it, you’re old , there’s nothing you can do but put eye drops in 4x a day. He’s fired obviously but THANK YOU for natural remedies to add to my day 🤞🏼 & less drops!
My eye doctor told me the same and I have been struggling terribly - i feel lucky to have found these videos & helps to know I’m not crazy other people go through the same…eye drops mostly seem to make the problem worse not better????
I cannot even imagine not having to use eye drops! I wish a natural routine would help. I do the warm compress twice daily. It helps some. Just this week i increased from 15 minutes to 25. And I started carnivore 3 weeks ago. Have heard remarkable testimonies from that but I know it takes time.
I am 77 and have extremely dry eyes. The opthamologist said I am not producing enough tears AND that my tear ducts are not helping as they should. WHEW! I live in Mexico at a very high (6300 ft.). Our dry season is 8 months yearly and I am talking about NO precipitation, humidity of around 13-15%. The product names will be different, but I use a saline drop 4-5 times in 24 hours. It is called Hyabak. It helps, but after 4-6 weeks, my eyes become infected again and I need an antibiotic. Thank you, Dr. Allen. I am wondering if the massager and hydrating mask is available here. I will investigate.
Thank you for this video! I think a warm compress would be so nice, I will try that. I also like to use eye cream (meant for under the eyes), and use it on my upper eyelids too. I use only a little bit, and make sure it doesn’t get into my eye. This seems to help. I live in a very dry climate, and dry skin & dehydration is common.
After a full regimen of cleaning eyes for quite a while I use the very smallest amount of castor oil-under the eyes, apply also on eyebrows with mascara brush and eyelids(BE CAREFUL YOU DONT WANT TO SCRATCH YOUR EYES. Then apply Restasis drops put on eye mask then go to bed. Castor oil has omega 3 in it.
Thank you for making these content! You explain things very succinctly and relayed the important info I needed. I wish my eye doctor would/should have told me I will need to manage dry eye symptoms for rest of my life, to set appropriate expectations…

I use rose water to clean my eyelids and eat flax seed almost everyday. When I feel my eyes dry I use Refresh advance eye drops and use a warm compress. If I feel super dry then I will use Sustain gel at nighttime.
That all sounds great! I eat flax seed too, ground fresh and usually on oatmeal in the morning or in a smoothie. Rose water is interesting and something I don't know much about, but I have been looking more into cosmetics and how they affect the skin and the eyelids. Hopefully a video on that sometime
My eyes have been red since two days ago, I've already tried two types of eye drops for dry eyes and the redness has decreased a bit but not completely. Is this normal to have your eyes red all the time due to dry eyes? I'm new to this, this is my first time experiencing this and I'm a little concerned...
Hello, I make every attempt possible to do my eye drops 3 times a day, sometimes only 2. When I went to the eye doctor back in June, he said my left eye is worse than my right one, with dry eye. I wish I could take a pill so I wouldn't have to remember it, it would be more convenient. 😜

Many people won’t have 20 minutes a day to use with a Tranquillise Vibes type device. I work, study at Uni and have 3 children. There’s no way I have that time. Maybe a humidifier by my bed, my Cationorm drops, a daytime distilled water mist spray and my squalane eye moisturiser will keep it under control without taking up time. I don’t have time for eye makeup so the squalane could migrate into my eyes during the day as I’m busy working.
@@victoriaring3846I don’t know one single person who thought Lipiflow was helpful to him. My ophthalmologist at the largest hospital in my city told me theirs is in storage. The machine wasn’t helpful and patients were unhappy after treatment. Apparently all except one eye doctor in my city stopped using the expensive machine. That one eye doctor really pushed me to do Lipiflow and said it had to be done several times before there was a difference and there were necessary maintenance treatments to maintain the benefit. I considered his behavior to be unethical because of the pressure after I said I needed to research the treatment. Every bit of the research was negative.
The one thing I hate about using the warm compress is the blurry eyes after. Lasts at least 1/2 hour. I worry about too much heat. That one you use might work better. I’m always nervous about pushing on my lids because it puts pressure on my eye balls. I wish I could try the supplements but I have to take little bites off pills over days or weeks to get my head used to them. Migraines from everything including vitamins. Great video though. I’ll ask my dr about these products.
the blurry eyes, if its last so long it is probably due the pressure on the cornea. This what happen to me only on my left eye. This why i do warm compresses eyes open, on the lower eyeslid first then the upper. Without pressing on the cornea.

- I then put Opti-Free pure moist on a Q-tip and I move the Q-tip back-and-forth above and below my eyelash with my eyes closed. Or I sometimes use OCuSOFT eyelid cleanser and gently rub that over my eyelash area with my eyes closed. (Rinse after using OCuSOFT.)
Additionally, I use a morning eyedrop and an evening eye gel in the form of drops.
This is easier and less expensive than anything else I’ve heard of or read about and it has been extremely effective for me. The
"Warm compress while gently massaging my eyeballs with lids closed for 4-5 minutes. (I kneel down at the bathroom sink with hot water running and wet with a washcloth so that I continue to keep that washcloth warm.)"
Instead of having the water running for 5 minutes constantly (wasting water) and having to repeatedly rewet the washcloth, use something that holds onto the warmth better.
I then use a warm wash towel,
I hold it on my eyes and keep warming up the towel as warm as i can stand it and put it on my eyes as i keep warming reheating the towel and holding it on my eyes for about 20 minutes.
I do that often throughout the day .
In the morning when i get up ,after I shower.
Before I go out anywhere.
As soon as i get home , later after a few hours I do it again .
After dinner and before I go to bed.
May seem like alot but I'm retired
Thank you for your wonderful videos .
Blessings 🙌
Refresh Optive Mega-3 morning and night is really helping my dry eyes. :) Thanks for the recommendation. My Dr. agrees!
Use medium pressure shower on closed eyelids as a budget lipiflow!
Yes my eye doctor said to do this every shower , multiple times for the rest of my life
Dear Eye Doctor, thank you so much for generously sharing your knowledge with YT viewers. My blepharitis started around 13 or 14 but without accurate diagnosis until I saw an optician in my 40's. Just recently I have been using Thealoz duo drops for dry eyes. Good results so far along with the usual daily care. Best wishes, Roger

My routine as follows:
1. Wash eye lids in the morning with Thera Tears foam
2. Warm compress of 10 minutes followed by eye lids massage and a squirt of saline to rinse my eyes. Then eye gel drops.
3. Apply scleral lenses and use PF eye drops every hour
4. High quality Omega 3 supplements
5. At night cold compress after removing scleral lenses
6. VitaPos PF ointment before going to bed
7. Sleep with Eyeseals 4.0 moisture chamber mask
At every step of the day I regret ever taking the decision of getting Lasik and ending up like this... I’m glad to know I’m not alone though.
Wow thanks for sharing this Daniel! So sorry to hear about the lasik not working out. Is that why you got into sclerals or was it just the dry eyes?
Sounds like me!!! What games do you like to play? I have been playing through the new Monster Hunter recently.
@@DoctorEyeHealth I love the Persona series so have been playing that!
I've bought the warm eye mask and love it and use everyday along with eye vitamins, thankyou x
02:33 The best part about this mask is that I can also wear it to Halloween parties and go as a Ninja Turtle. 🤣😂😅
I have IOP and one of the side effects from the eye drops is dry eyes. Thanks for the video, I’ll definitely try some of these.
You mean you have elevated IOP. IOP just means Intraocular pressure.
@@Akira-jd2zr Haha oops, yes that’s what I mean
Before my mom passed, she suffered from extreme dry eyes. I wish she had known information like this.
My condolences, I’m sorry for your loss. Much love to you.❤️
Mine, too.
Thank goodness I gave up make up most of the time in my twenties when I visited Europe in 1977. Lorna
Thank you so much I spent ALOT of money and wasted ALOT of time wipes wipes wipes that is what really helped me all the doctor that was seeing me was doing as taking my money and NEVER told me to even buy eye wipes I appreciate your honesty and advice
That's why I luv to watch your videos, u are a realist
I appreciate that!!
I appreciate that!!
Thank you so much for this video, your videos are always extremely informative & helpful. Very inspirational 🙂💜
Of course Hazy! Glad you like it and I hope it really helps you and everyone with dry eyes. I know my eyes are never perfect but I find my routine at least helps.
Thanks for an excellent series here.
I find if I skip on sleep then my eyes are the first to let me know. I also use Gunnar glasses for work for my multiple monitors. Lots of water and eye drops maybe a few times a week.
I think sleep affects us more than we realize. I wonder if inflammation biomarkers could be measured higher when we don't sleep as much.
Where can we buy ur products that U are talking can U give Us the brand
I have some linked in the description below the video
@@DoctorEyeHealth putting water in my eyes really help me whenever i had a dry eyes. does putting water in the eyes bad?
This is great! Thank you so much. Is there a product list we can find?
can doing suana cause any damage for the eyes especially those with MD
Long time sufferer and all very informative.
As soon as I did the massage the best i can with my finger and copying the machine that you used my eye open up and it is so much better
I never had dry eye until I had cataract surgery. Only if I don't keep hydrated, my right eye gets dry & I need to use drops & drink more water.
So beautiful that you show us how to use the paddock thank you so much
Any difference between using warm compress vs cold compress? I find that when my eyes are tired at the end of the day, cold compress feels so good !
Warm compresses will loosen clogged glands along your eyelid margin.
Cool compresses are generally used to reduce inflammation.
@@Akira-jd2zr can you do both?
@@gioplease6848 You can do both but as I said they are typically utilized for different reasons...
I know most might be appalled but I use manuka honey and I haven't suffered with dry eyes for years.
How do you use it, I’m
Interested!
So awesome! I love this idea!

I had hoped that red light therapy would help but it doesn't seem to. Thoughts on that?
Thank you so much Dr, this helps me a lot ✌️👀
Of all the things I do I didn’t think about water. I am definitely one that’s a slow waker and groggily gets that tea. I’ll try and add water in morning 👍👍

Thank you for informative videos. Can you please explain LipiFlow treatment?
YES!!! Coming soon!
I had that treatment and didn’t help
Really 🙏i was hoping that would help. I'm really suffering 😢
Drinking six mugs of water a day and vegetarian daily walking on the spot exercise to keep fit thanks Joseph colin
