I can't believe I was 3 when this aired. I can remember my parents buying me the bundle DVDs of The Christmas Invasion, New Earth, and Tooth and Claw and incessantly rewatching them. I was always extremely fond of Rose and the Doctor as a kid, which is probably why they remain my favourite duo today. Your 15 Years On series is such a great idea and I look forward to re-re-re-re x100 watching series 2 on their subsequent anniversaries!

This was the second episode I ever saw, I knew then David Tennant was my Doctor, love the inclusion of the trailer at the beginning

This was the first ever episode I watched (although I didn’t properly get into the show until Rise of the Cybermen), but my first memory of Doctor Who wasn’t even seeing Doctor Who - as a 5 year old playing outside, I remember my friend/neighbour at the time running towards me shouting “Doctor Who’s on, let’s go” and I mustn’t have heard him or something, but my honest to god reply was “Doctor What? What is it? Doctor What?”. I genuinely find it intriguing that my first memory of the show isn’t even seeing the show, it was the conversation beforehand of running to watch the show, almost as if it were fate that it were to become my favourite show ever... but I do definitely remember going into my neighbours house and watching that first scene for the first time with David Tennant stepping onto the TARDIS floor and then Westminster Bridge playing - it still brings me chills to this day! Anyway, great video - thank you for documenting the occasion!

Can’t believe it’s 15 years already, series 2 has been my favourite nuwho series I think 10th Doctor and Rose were great together the monsters in the series is scary I had goosebumps I find that era more relatable
This episode is kinda like resident evil with the infected humans chasing except there’s no shooting at them and they have great ending instead when they’re cured

This is actually one of the very first RTD era episodes I ever watched and it got me hooked, so clearly something worked. I remember finding some of the futuristic set designs very eerily and alien looking which enticed me at the time

Also the Doctor's over-dramatic exclamation of "further than we've ever gone before!"

This was the second episode of Doctor Who I watched, and when I rewatched it recently it was great to see how firmly David Tennant had cemented himself as the Doctor so early on. (No different to CE, MS and PC). Fun episode, nothing drastically wrong with it, but I agree I prefer the higher scale openers like the Impossible Astronaut.

This might be a controversial opinion, but I think "New Earth" is Russell's worst episode (and yes that is including "Love & Monsters"). It's not a terrible episode by any means, Tennant's performance is fantastic and engaging right from the word "go", nailing every emotion that the character goes through, from wonder and amazement to fury and outrage. I also absolutely love the pre-title sequence where he powers up the TARDIS while "Westminster Bridge" plays, you can really tell how excited and happy Tennant is to finally be playing this role. Billie Piper also gets a lot of fun material to work with, and delivers a highly entertaining performance as Cassandra in Rose's body, being over-the-top and campy in all the right ways. The direction from James Hawes (who also worked on "The Empty Child" and "The Christmas Invasion") is excellent, the scenes with the Face of Boe are very heartfelt and mysterious, and the script even manages to provide a surprisingly emotional ending for Cassandra, which makes for an unexpectedly downbeat conclusion to what has been an incredibly goofy episode.
And this is my biggest problem with the episode, because the tone for this story is all over the place. The episode is focussed on two plotlines (the mystery of the hospital and Cassandra's antics), both of which are going for completely different conflicting emotions, which makes for a disorienting experience that leaves you uncertain of how you should be feeling. The third act is particularly bad, as we keep jumping from goofy body-swap comedy to a horrifying zombie outbreak, it just feels incredibly jarring. It doesn't help that a lot of the jokes (e.g. the Doctor's complaints about the lack of a shop) don't really land and feel like Russell's trying too hard to make the audience laugh. It's not as bad as many of Chibnall's later desperate attempts at "comedy", but it still feels rather cringey. Also, the special effects are rather dodgy in some parts, with some very unconvincing green screen and CGI, the ending feels very rushed and doesn't really make a lot of sense, and while I do enjoy Billie Piper's turn as Cassandra, the decision to split up the Doctor and Rose for most of the episode does mean we don't get a good chance to understand their new dynamic, which makes me think that "Tooth and Claw" should've been the series opener instead. It's not an irredeemably bad episode by any means, but on the whole it's an underwhelming mess of ideas and tones, and a very disappointing start to series 2

Wasn't it Moffat who advised RTD to cure the plague carriers at the end? RTD's original storyline had them all die at the end, which may well be more upbeat, but it created a new problem of the ridiculous instant transmissable cure. If it was just a plague hospital, and explained that the nuns were creating a cure that could be passed on with the disease, it would have all made more sense.
