Trying the M5 after a few years of good experience with the Smith 4D. The M5 fits my face better and the peripheral vision is as good or better than the 4D. I also prefer the lens magnets over the lever-lock with the 4D. The M4 did not fit me well hence the reason I went with the 4D over any Anon google. I also ended up swapping my helmet too from a Smith Vantage to an Anon Merak for the best goggle compatibility.
I had read one review that there was a potential for water leakage with the M5 due to the rimless design; that there exists a minute space between frame and lense and this posed a problem during heavy snow/wet conditions. Anyone have any experience with this? Thoughts?
thanks for the review, very informative! I was actually searching for M4, but realized there is m5 version of it as well. I am planning to get oakley mod5, and I think both m4 and m5 should work well. The only thing I am afraid, is the big nose issue. I am gonna try m5 after i get my helmet to see if it goes well, plus check the nose situation.
Excellent review. I got the M4 for Christmas and would be replacing entry level Scott goggles which have actually been great for a few seasons. They are smaller than the Anon. The M4 sits a little low on the bridge of my nose and compresses it. Does the M5 sit higher or provide a touch more room since the lenses are smaller? Thanks to anyone who answers.
Thanks! Aesthetics definitely play a role. Most people prefer the slim down look of the cylinder shape. Toric lenses provide better clarity with less perceived distortion by comparison. They also have a tendency to NOT fog up as quickly. The range of view is the same for both.
Thank you for the great banter, information and education! Have an M2 at the moment and considering flipping up to the M5, would you say there is a considerable difference between the comfort and lens tech? Cheers
M4 smashes down on my nose when wearing my Smith helmet. Would m4s be a good fit, possibly? Or m3 maybe? I'm a dude and the Oakley Line Miner is the best for for my face, but I want the mfi system.
Rob and Tyler can you please do a side by side comparison with Anon M5S and M4S. I jumped my wife up from WM1 to M4S (cylindrical) (online purchase) mainly because of the additional better mid weight face mask and the lens hardshell carry case. But the M5S may have been a better selection with its slightly smaller sized frame. I have no way of seeing these side by side here in Australia so was hopping you could help the Community out here with your best in the industry superb reviews.
Is there a difference in the fog resistance between the goggles? Does one have more or less air volume interiorly? I found that my M4’s fogged easily even with MFI and matching anon helmet.
HI! Resistance to fog is about the same between the 2 models. That is to say, you wouldn't be able to tell a difference. Some claim that cylindrical lenses fog easier than spherical or toric lenses due to the reduced overall volume, but the difference is so minor that it's essentially indistinguishable.
@SportRxSanDiego - NEED YOUR HELP! I got the Anon M4, with the Sonar Smoke by Zeiss VLT 7% S4 and the Sonar IR Blue by Zeiss VLT 39% S2 - unfortunately, somebody stole them, so I need to replace. SONAR are discontinued. Which 2 lenses from PERCEIVE line can replace my stolen Sonars? I only have the Sonar Night by Zeiss VLT 77% S1 as spare, but nothing for cloudy or blue bird days :( Thank you for your helpful videos!
Hello! From what we've been able to discern, there's no difference in overall quality between the MFI attachment for the M5 vs. other models that include the MFI attachment.
Is M5 compatible with Oakley Mod 5? I have Line Miner and thinking to swap to M5. Also heard that spare lens does bot come with hard case. Is that true?
Hi! The M5 is similar in size and bulk to the Line Miner so it should pair well with the Mod 5. The M5 comes with a microfiber bag for the spare lens, but a hard case can be purchased 👉www.sportrx.com/sportrx-snow-goggle-case-2022.html
yo, looking for your opinion. i have an old cheap pair of retail Smith's, they were probably $50-$80 at the time. i wanted to upgrade and have tried on Glade Fathom+, Anon M4, 2 types of Oakley, and Smith IO Mag. the glade was too tight on my nose, bothered breathing, didnt' care for the oakleys, the M4's looked great but i felt they were a little too far from my face which was awkward, and the Smith Io MAG was probably the best fit. however i didn't prefer the fit of the IO Mag to my cheap old Smith's. i find the cheap old Smith's sit closer to my face, to where i don't see the nose area as much. which goggle would you recommend with maybe a wider nose area (for breathing), or one that sits a little closer to your face?
What type of Oakleys did you get? I was going to try the flight decks. I have Smith Skyline and want to try the Glade Adapt 2S cause everyone was raving about them and their pjotochromatic tech that changes the tint per condition so you don't have to switch out the lenses.
Oakley may offer the best lenses in terms of contrast and color enhancement for snow, however the interchangeability of the lenses with Anon is unsurpassed. Plus, you get a bonus lens for low light conditions with Anon. Both offer their own unique strengths that separate them from the pack. You can't go wrong with either, as it's more about personal preference.
I had the Oakley flightdeck before I got to anon m4. 10 out of 10 recommend the anon over the Oakley! The flight deck lens is significantly more annoying to change, then the magnet tech on the Anon.
HI! The M5 is considered a medium size goggle and it does come in a Low Bridge Fit version (previously referred to as Asian Fit): 👉www.sportrx.com/anon-m5-mfi-snow-goggle-low-bridge-fit.html🔥
Not any more or less than other high end goggle models. We recently tested these during some rain/overcast/snow conditions. Only after some multiple runs and full physical exertion did we notice some fogging on the backside. Held up pretty good for the most part.
I love the look of the M5, but have similar facial features, and the M4 fits my nose much better.
I love my M4, no desire to change at all.
This guy has the best goggles reviews 🎉

Sounds like an expensive change
Meh...worth it for better fit and functionality.
How do the lenses compared to prism?

What about toric vs cylindrical? Just an aesthetic thing?

Hello! They are similar in size and, generally speaking, i'd say that the comfort and lens tech has only improved.

Our pleasure!
Which is best helmet for the m5?
That’s why the best is the M4s slightly smaller profile.
there is an m5s too
Big fan of the M3. Didn’t like how big the M4’s were in comparison. I’d be interested to know how the M3 and M5 look side by side
M5 - really harder to remove lences, no hard case for that 😢. I will stay with M4. I wanted so much to buy M5 but not.
I feel a little bit restrict on the edge sides vision on m5 compare with m4
Agreed👍The M5 is slightly smaller in size compared to the M4.

Any helmets you recommend for the m4 and m5 with regards to fit compatibility
obviously anything made by Anon, but my Pret helmet is seamless with my M4
Hi! Most helmets nowadays accommodate a wide array of goggle models, but any helmet produced by Anon should have no problem working with the M4 or M5.
Anon Logan fits perfect with my M4s!
giro ledge mips fits perfectly goggles over or under
Is there any difference in MFI quality? I heard rumours the anon m5 is more flimsy?
Hello! From what we've been able to discern, there's no difference in overall quality between the MFI attachment for the M5 vs. other models that include the MFI attachment.
@@sportrxeyewear Thank you!
I wish there was a shape animation for the flat toric like there was for the other shapes.
The shape is exactly same with toric. Just the curvature angle is less now.

@@sportrxeyewear thanks for the reply but I mean spare lens hard shell. Like the one came with M4, dedicated for spare lens.
what are the actual lens dimensions of M4 and M5? would be nice if all brands listed this
Hi! The M4 is 7" wide, 4" tall, and 2" deep (lens & foam)
The M5 is 6.5" wide, 3.75" tall, and 1.75 " deep.
Hope this helps!

i ended up with Smith 4D, which have been great. the main reason i went with them was due to how they fit my face.
Any recommendations on what helmet would best match with the Oakley Line Miner?
Oakley MOD1! 🔥
Does Smith Vantage fit well with Anon goggles? Thanks!
Hi! Due to the up tilt of the Vantage brim, it should pair well with Anon goggles
@@sportrxeyewear Thanks so much man
I have a vantage with m4, they fit/work well with together
I really like the looks of the mittens shown in the videos at 1:50. Can anybody tell which brand and model they are?

Well.. The bigger the better.. )) Less place for the wind.. ))
Do they fog badly?
Not any more or less than other high end goggle models. We recently tested these during some rain/overcast/snow conditions. Only after some multiple runs and full physical exertion did we notice some fogging on the backside. Held up pretty good for the most part.
Why is the M4 more expensive?
M5 is copycat from Giro Contour. I have both. I can say that with no problem!
