This stump hole type of scenery is caused by erosion where sea meets forests. Driftwood beach on Jekyll Island, Georgia and Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina are two other places to see this.
The water is dark due to the tannin from vegetation in marsh. Water flows based on tides.

I know you meant to say palm tree, but you accidentally said pineapple tree. Only pineapples grow on the ground like in a prickly bushy type thing.
