    I am hoping for bigger displays for all those aging pairs of eyes. We don't need bigger watches, just displays that use the whole surface of the watch. My 965 could get a 4mm bigger display. Oh and adjustable font size too.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 дні тому +1

      My eyes are also getting older every day. Garmin does allow for a larger default font. And then each watch face has it's own style but some are more readable than others. And I agree. They could make displays larger as long as the watch isn't super thick and they'll still feel smaller. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    I switch from an AMOLED watch (Garmin Venu2+) to a MIPS one (Coros Pace 3). I really like the always-on display on the Coros. Yes it's less nice, but it's more usable. I'm still using the Venu as my smart-watch, and only wear the Coros for running... When I'm running, it don't care about how my watch looks. I only care about it's useability.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 дні тому

      Yeah, that's how MIPs feels to me also. I really don't mind them and have found myself using the Garmin Enduro watch even when I have access to other AMOLED watches. I'm really not looking at these screens other than when I need the time or for training and a MIP displays are perfectly fine for those activities. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    LTE cellular connection on a Garmin high-end watch. I would love to not have to take my phone running/cycling to have a family member be able to track my location.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 дні тому +2

      Absolutely. How did I miss that one. That'd be super helpful and Garmin has already experimented with it with their 945LTE watch a few years ago. I wonder why they never moved forward with LTE. 🤷‍♂️

    I bought a Garmin FR 965 last November 2024. Big upgrade over FR 245. I love the bigger and brighter display as well as the buttons and touchscreen capabilities. I knew the FR 245 was missing an altimeter, barometer, and other key tech inside. I loved the FR 245. I had it since 2020 and battery drains quickly.

    Thanks Matt!! For me, the most important aspect of the watch is its use as a sport device, and ZoneSense has been a revolution in 2024. I hope Garmin, the watch I wear on my wrist, adds something similar. Definitely only expect software improvements and little or no changes in hardware in 2025. Happy new year!!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 дні тому

      Yeah, ZoneSense is very interesting. I'm curious as to how accurate it is compared to a lab test. That'd be a fun video to make. You might be right about the lack of hardware updates but I'm staying hopeful. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    Matt I think you're on point about the trends we'll see through 2025. For endurance athletes I'd like to see new sensores like sweat rate, which is key for any longer event, even if it's external but the watch must capture the data and offer recommendations in real time (for intance recommend drinking 500 ml during the next hour, or whatever.) I also expect Coros, Suunto and maybe Polar adding routing capabilities on the watch at some point, Garmin Fenix has had this for several years. OLED everything, I expect Coros releasing an OLED Apex 3. And finally I expect that Garmin will be able to release a truly stable firmware for the Fenix 8 but we'll see about that 😂 .

    Great video! I honestly love the MIP display on my forerunner 255. As a SWE, I have enough bright lights in my face daily between my phone and laptop. I know it’s unlikely but I really hope they keep mips around on forerunners and have a 275 standard version (mip) and then a more expensive 275 pro version with amoled (Similar to coros and their pace 3/pace pro)

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  3 дні тому +2

      Yeah, I think it's great to have options but I have a feeling that it'll start to get harder and harder to get MIP displays going forward. 🤷‍♂️

    • @altuncgezerler
      @altuncgezerler 2 дні тому +1

      I guess MIP displays is goşng to have customers for long, I sold my Fenix 6 last month, and planning to order an Enduro 3 shortly.

    • @ikuturso7570
      @ikuturso7570 2 дні тому +2

      MIPS (or somerhing similar) for the win. Amoled sure is brighter but MIPS still far superior outside in the sun - and it is a watch, no one (?) is watching videos or photos on that thing so why one would want a screen that exels in those aspects?

    • @gsz1664

    I hope that the big brands will also bring out more bands without a display (like Whoop), I know Polar is working on one. But I am in the Garmin realm with my data. I would love to wear a normal watch and a band on my upper arm so that all the data still is tracked, not keen on a ring, I want something that doesn't show while wearing.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 дні тому

      That Polar one is super weird. I'm surprised that they're selling through third parties and not directly to consumers. I'd love to see Garmin try a no display heath band. That'd be amazing. Maybe they'd announce it at CES? 🤞🏻

    Great points, I think 2025 is going to be exciting in the world of GPS watches.
    Personally, I’m waiting for more mid-range watches to have a built-in diving computer.
    There’s a big range here… from Amazfit free diving, the Fenix/Ultra recreational scuba diving to fully functional technical diving computer on the Descent series.
    Let’s see where this is going!

    • @mlegrand

    I'm very curious about where AI coaching will go as it's been touted for a long time, back in the "Big data" hype (and failure). Years ago I gathered an crazy amount of athletes historic data. Every analysis I threw at it said the same thing. People get slower as they age. More annual / consistent time doing something generally means improvement. Specific trainings had negligible impact compared to consistency and time spent. Like orders of magnitude different.
    Fun sells better than performance and sticking to doing stuff is more important than specifics. Most training theory assumes high engagement and consistency are a given, when in fact that is probably wrong. At least the data I have says that.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 дні тому

      Yeah, I've been coaching for a long time and know a lot of other coaches that think they're 'formula' is somehow magical. When it's likely that it might be less about the formula and more about executing consistent workouts year after year. But an AI coach could (theoretically) take into account engagement and consistency by factoring in workouts that are more fun or even social. I think it'll be fun to watch this space over the next few years to see where things go. We'll see. 🤷‍♂️

      Oh I don't think it'll make it's way to the 165. I could see it coming to some future 175 or something like that. Who knows. Garmin would need to start unifying their software and carving up their product lines a bit less. 🤷‍♂️

  • @Javiercav
    @Javiercav 3 дні тому

    i hope garmin remember swimmers since there is a lot of room for improvement on the software , both in the watch and garmin connect .
    1)function to “recalculate” open water swimming distance after the actitvity . i found that many times the track in the map looks fine but it tracked double the distance , and a simple function that takes that route and measures the distance again can be useful
    2)being able to correct the distance on pool swimming just after a lap , sometimes in the middle of a session maybe the watch incorrectly count 150m in a 200m interval , and i think it’s easy to implement a way to tell the watch in the moment that the last lap was another distance

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 дні тому +1

      Yeah, I hear you, the swimming software could use some updates. One of the best swim software apps I've seen is actually from the Swim Form Goggles company. Garmin could steal some ideas from companies like Form if they wanted to invest in swimming.

    Apple and Pixel watch with a week's battery life is my top pick. I get 2.5 days with my apple watch 6 and android phone. The oneplus 2r is too cumbersome for me but does better for battery life.
    More apps on my Garmin would be great.
    I might go for an esim watch, as long as it can be a different number to my phone (I have to keep two numbers but don't like carrying two phones or using dual sim phone).

    • @sebastiento9695
      @sebastiento9695 3 дні тому

      That'll never happen, their OS and processor use too much power

    • @AndrewYouTubehandle
      @AndrewYouTubehandle 3 дні тому

      @sebastiento9695sad but true. I can reliably get more than 2 days with my Apple watch 6, meaning it's fine for a weekend, but I want a week!
      Oneplus took an interesting route that works, 2 processors, one suitable for low power use, the other smart use. It works very well. 4 days typically in smarts for me, 11 days in energy saving mode.
      Shame movement, piezo compression on steps... can't all feed into watch recharge!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 дні тому +1

      The Double processor is an interesting idea. I'd just love to see a Series 11 device that can go 2-3 days with always on display. 🤞🏻

    • @AndrewYouTubehandle
      @AndrewYouTubehandle 2 дні тому

      @mlegrand there are a couple of tricks to get longer battery life. First is to have a very simple hone screen on the watch a d swipe across to screens that have more complications (option in settings to be able to swipe across to a new watch screen). It also makes lift to wake noticeably more responsive. Also, whilst using an Android phone, I rarely needed a connected watch when out and about. Tap to pay worked fine, steps etc. And it was easy to tether my Apple watch to my android phone if I needed connectivity. I found this extended my battery life (well past 2 days) and for me it wasn't a loss. I do use my apple watch a lot at home and it's connected to WiFi. I use voice input extensively (adding reminders, timers, sending quick messages, changing music...). I don't carry my phone around with as much at home and I rely on my "handy" watch. I've also found the watch light handy.
