I was watching with a friend, and when we got to that part he was like, "so, Fallout 1 basically?" I think the time limit then was 100 days, though. (I know it's 100 days because I have failed that game before)
Just so you know, none of us knew anything specific about the story going in, just vague things, like vault-dweller going out into the wasteland for the first time, which is a common theme for (almost) all of the games. Each game has it's own story, just like the show. They're all in different times, as well, basically in order. For example Fallout 3 was about 200 years after bombs, Fallout 4 210 years, and the show is 219 years after. They also take place in different areas: Fallout and Fallout 2 were southern California, like the show, Fallout 3 around Washington DC, Fallout 4 around Boston, and Fallout 76 in West Virginia. Fallout: New Vegas of course around Las Vegas.
Just in case you hadn't cleared it up by now: the creature in episode 3 is a gulper. Usually, they're mutated salamanders in-game, but it seems they went with mutated axolotls for the show.
The Fallout games are known for their very dark, satirical humor. One of the ongoing jokes is that the pre-war foods were so loaded with artificial preservatives that they remain "edible" more than two centuries after rhe bombs dropped, so yeah, you can have deviled eggs.
The continuity on the series is phenomenal. When Norm looked through the window at the prisoners, the woman Lucy saved him from by hitting her in the eye with a dart was one of the pair looking back at him!
Just want to point out that the Yum Yum Deviled Eggs in lore have so many preservatives they don't go bad easily... Even after the apocalypse... So... Yeah... A box for 200+ year old eggs that are still good enough to eat if you ignore the bizarre chemicals that allow this miracle of preservation probably being not being natural.
Food preservation at the time the bombs fell was very advanced. Perishable foods like the devilled eggs were preserved by irradiation, and would last centuries, although the quality would deteriorate. Refrigeration was unnecessary except for perishable food like fresh veggies, or milk. Oddly, the wastelanders probably had more access to those types of food than the vault dwellers did.
The show is cannon to the games, but it takes place after the events of all the games so far. The most recent timeline game was Fallout 4 set in 2287, which is 210 years after the bombs were dropped. The show is set 219 years after the bombs fell if you recall in episode 1 when they introduced Lucy. Basic math puts the year at 2296 during the wasteland events in the show, at least at the beginning. If you ever go play any of the games, you will spot easter eggs everywhere on a re-watch of the show.
Music from the 30s to 50s is a big part of the games and they have their own radio stations with fun DJs :) In "Fallout New Vegas" one radio station DJ was voiced by the late Wayne Newton! The "Outros" always have interesting bits of lore or such ;) Dead Burt's shoes...a call out to the urban legend that a man's foot size has...reference to things :P Radiation isn't the main reason for the more complex mutants...and has relevance to why the Brotherhood of Steel came to be
@@Lightningrod75 Oh! my bad, sorry :) I must have got him mixed up with Kris Kristofferson who voiced the amazing "Chief Hanlon" one of THE most well written game characters, ever IMHO Along with Mr House and damn it's a shame Rene Auberjoinis died too as he'd be awesome in the TV show :(
I'm having so much fun re-watching this series with you! Dark secrets? Well, go down the rabbit hole and discover how deep it goes. Nice Han Solo quote by the way!
I just finished Silo which has a similar plot line to this but was produced by Apple instead of Amazon. Highly recommend checking that out if that theme is something that interests you.
Your mum played twilight princess? Heck yeah that's one of the top zelda games ever made. I've done multiple playthroughs and speed runs lol. Loving the reactions :)
The lore for ghouls were changed from the games. Typically ghouls just eventually go feral as their brain rots. Unfortunately you never know when they'll turn so communities tend to not trust them or ban them entirely.
EP 3 The ghoul is not technically "undead" he is a mutant. Max fails his barter skill check. So begins Normans journey, love Norm. The broken water chip is a callback to the first Fallout game, in that game you need to leave your vault to find a replacement water chip. At the pond, it is IMO a big moment for Maximus as you can see him decide not to be like Titus and tells Thadeus to go ashore. I doubt the Ghouls water would have been very good for Lucy, was probably very irradiated. Unlike "The Last of Us" this is an original story and not from any of the games. EP 4 There are a lot of ghouls, mostly pre war people like Cooper and I would assume Roger who remembers Ice cream and Apple Pie. Exploring abandoned vaults is a big part of the games which they cover in the show with Normans story. Sadly Lucy does not understand. Lucy levels up and gets an armored vault suit. Lucy would not kill the Ghoul, it would ruin her good karma playthrough. Remember "there is what people said happened and then there is what really happened"
All i can say, besides "great rections!", is please dont fizzle out on this series, as some have. Its very disappointing and I'm enjoying your reactions immensely.
Of note; the broken water chip is the maguffin from the first video game and the prop is screen accurate to the game ♥️🤟😎♥️

Great reaction, plus you mentioned my favorite Galaxy Quest quote! I even have it on a shirt😂 More twists await in the next episodes❤❤

Codworth and the Mr Handy bots were both voiced by Stephen Russell, along with a ton of other FO4 characters. They do sound very similar though.
@ganymeade275 fixed my OG post, thanks for pointing that out. 👍

The broken waterchip is the main mission in the first Fallout game. You gotta play some Fallout Nick, only played from 3 up but the games are awesome.
Another great pair of episodes. As has been said before, this show is such a fantastic distillation of everything great about the games.
I’ve been waiting for this!!!! Love this show and love your reactions!!! ❤️

Thanks for the suggestion! 😊
IT Crowd is great, Matt Berry is THE voice of commercials/PSAs in The UK.
Should see Berry in Toast of London. ❤
His nemesis in that is Katherine Parkinson's (IT Crowd) husband IRL.

The electric sex pants line is way better than "New Yawk Cit-tay!" but guess which one gets the merch?
