Absolutely please watch the show, it’s not only one of the funniest shows in years, but it would be a perfect companion as you continue to watch Buffy after the Boys
@@SurvivorBrino she doesnt. Not everyone wants a year of Buffy on Fridays. And Ashleigh knows better than to force that on the audience. Not everyone wants that. Breaks are good.
@TheHorrorShowChannel she's not forcing anything on anyone. Her loyal fans and subs were really into her enjoyment of it. We miss the reactions. So whenever she gets back to it, it'll just take that much longer to finish the series. Many reactors get through TV shows with more seasons than Buffy in a reasonable amount of time. Ashleigh had whipped through the first two seasons in less than two months.
Everyone in my small office bullpen watched this and we quoted it constantly for a good year or two. Not long after, a new hire was being brought around to be introduced to everyone - a tall, bald British guy whose name happened to be Peter. When I met him I had to bite my lip hard to keep from laughing; one of my co-workers actually left the room. The jokes just wrote themselves ("I saw someone in the boardroom... and it was Peter!!"). Turns out he had seen the movie and was a big fan as well.
I love that they have Vlad a.k.a Vlad Dracul a.k.a Vlad the impaler a.k.a _Dracula_ being room mates with Petyr who is clearly inspired by _Nosferatu_ 🤣
Fun fact: Stu is actually an IT guy named Stu Rutherford that Taika was friends with. And he didn’t actually know he was going to have such a big part in the movie. Also, while Taika and Jemaine (the writers/directors and also Viago and Vlad respectively) wrote an entire script for the film, they didn’t show it to any of the cast, allowing them to improvise the scenes.
Taika Waititi is one of the creators of this movie and is Viago, brilliant New Zealand/Māori actor, comedian, producer and director. Taika is also the voice of Korg in the MCU
Now that you have seen this movie, Taika put an Easter Egg in Thor Ragnarok when he, as Korg, is showing various different weapons to Thor for his fight. At one point he takes up a wooden, tri-pronged wooden spear and he remarks that it's an odd weapon but 'probably very useful if you want to stake three vampires huddled together in the dark against the cold'.
The show is VERY worth it and funnier than the movie most of the way through. Plus there’s a great episode in the first season with many vampire cameos you’d appreciate!
If you want more mockumentaries, check out the other Christopher Guest mockumentaries. You've seen "This is Spinal Tap," but there's also "Waiting for Guffman", "Best in Show", and "A Mighty Wind." In this movie, vampires can't have any human food. If they do they puke large amounts of blood. That's what happened to Nick, he ate a chip which made him puke blood.
Loved your reaction to this. It's so silly but v.clever. I love how seriously the cast took the concept & the parallels between flat/house sharing and how annoying flatmates can be whether they are human or supernatural. & Taika Waititi as Viago is an absolute cutie 🥰
I really wish they had followed through with their idea for a spinoff/sequel about the werewolves, if for no other reason that the title was amazing: “We’re Wolves.” And of course because Rhys Darby is the best.
In addition to the TV series of What We Do In the Shadows (which is great), there's also a series called Wellington Paranormal starring the cops that show up at 21:00 that's also great.
Blood clotting is really complicated, and people with haemophilia (about 400 are born in the US every year with the condition) lack the ability to produce one of the proteins that makes blood clot quickly, so even small cuts bleed for a very long time. When I was a kid, I had a neighbour whose younger brother had it; he fell over while we were playing and skinned his knee, and wound up in hospital for 2 days, because even when it did clot, because it was on his knee, it would tear open again when he moved.
Wellington Paranormal is a series that follows the two cops, Minogue and O'Leary, investigating paranormal cases around Wellington. It's a lot of fun. The series based on this movie is also really great, it just wrapped up the last season. Both series are definitely worth watching, it's in the same mockumentary style.
Ashleigh, when I tell you: I've slept on this film for FAR too long. I saw the series based on it (takes place in New York BTW), I absolutely LOVED IT. I've been meaning to watch this for years, but knowing you were about to, I saw it just the other day. Now one of my all time favorite movies and I loved that we both laughed just as hard at all the same places. Like The Lost Boys meets Spinal Tap. Comedy genius! I'd love the series to be one of your Wednesday viewings. The characters are different, but the vibe is the same, if not better. And happy future birthday to your mom next week :)
@@james.b.mcgill Yes. It's probably his most accessible film, so I second the nomination. If only for an entire review of "Is this movie going to make me cry?"

Hemophilia is, in fact, a real thing. It's a blood disorder where the blood doesn't clot the way it's supposed to. It used to be called the royal disease because Queen Victoria was a carrier of the gene, and then she had a buttload of kids who were married off to various European royal houses (mostly in various parts of Germany, which hadn't united yet under Prussian rule, Spain and Russia) and thus the disease spread. Victoria's granddaughter Alix was married off to the last Tsar of Russia, and gave her son Alexei the disease. Her desperation to cure her son brought Rasputin into their lives and that, on top of the Tsar's other failings, cause the Russian Revolution and the whole family's deaths.
18:24 in most vampire movies and stories, they can’t eat regular food at all. In this movie and in the series if a vampire eats “human” food they projectile vomit.
Those two coppers have their own TV series - they're kinda like the daft, Newzealand version of Mulder and Scully and encounter all kinds of creatures in the same area the vampires from "Shadows" live in. THe series is called "Wellington Paranormal".
Seal is an amazing singer (was married to Heid Klum) - I would say he is known for the song Kiss From a Rose (from one of the Batman movies). You definitely should listen to it. But, he has bad scaring on his cheeks (that's why the guy said he looked like Seal).
I was just recommended this series the other day and just watched the trailer for this movie yesterday. What a concidence that you are posting this today lol. All signs point to yes...
I love Taika Waititi's sense of humour, he has a way of showing horrible stuff and make it funny at the same time his other movie that I love JoJo Rabbit is also very funny at times but also touching and heartbreaking.
If you take Thor Ragnarok on just the bare bones, it's a horror. Man reunites with brother, who has deposed their father, the king, finds father, who immediately dies, then their sister shows up, tries to kill them both, the brothers get sent to a prison and forced to fight for their lives while the sister goes to their home, kills all of their friends, and takes over their home. The brothers escape the prison, and make it home to fight off their sister, and end up killing her and most of the people in their city, and destroy their city in the process. Yet, Taika made it easily one of the funniest Marvel movies.
There is also a show Wellington Paranormal that was on HBO Max that followed the police in the town this is set as they investigated supernatural calls.
Please watch the show! My favorite part of the movie is when Petyr gives the slight nod agreeing not to bite Stu because Stu is a vegetarian. Even a 800 year old vampire who has probably has killed thousands up thousands of people shows class and understanding 😂.
18:21 “Why can’t they eat chips?” Because once you’re a vampire, all you can consume is blood. Everything else makes you regurgitate. What I would like to know, though, is why he can’t watch daytime TV. Being a vampire means that one can’t go out in the sun. It does not mean that one cannot be active during the day.
I think you'd love the series, same sense of humour, set in America, different set of Vampires but set in the same universe (there is an appearance of some of the movie vamps). It has Matt Berry in it, if you don't know who he is then you are missing out.
Two of the people in this movie (the sexy vampire and the "we're werewolves not swearwolves" guy) were from the HBO TV show "Flight of the Conchords." You'd probably know the former, Jemaine Clement, best as the voice of the "Shiny" crab from Moana, but he's enjoyed quite a bit of celebrity.
This film is GOLD. Went out and bought the blu-ray as soon as I finished watching it the first time. Absolutely, ridiculously hilarious. The main vampires are based on the differenty styles of popular vampires in media the past 100 years, you have Nosferatu, Vlad The Impaler, Bram Stokers and Interview With The Vampire/Queen of the Damned/Anne Rice style.
Hemophilia is when the blood doesn't clot properly when you cut yourself. Blood will thicken up when it comes out of the body, it's how we end up with scabs after a cut. With hemophilia the blood keeps flowing out basically. I went to school with a kid that had it.
Another mockumentary I recommend (even though it has nothing supernatural about it) is A Mighty Wind. It's by the same people who did This is Spinal Tap, but about folk music. On that note, The Rutles is a great one to check out as well, another music mockumentary, but this one from the group Eric Idle was a part of after leaving Monty Python. As with every video of yours, I recommend the movie Imagine Me & You, as well as Zsazsa Zaturnnah.
Jermaine Clement, who plays Vlad the Poker, is also in a very funny musical duo called Flight of the Conchords, which had a two-season series on HBO. They're billed in the show as as New Zealand's 4th most popular folk-comedy duo, trying to hit in New York. Jermaine's partner, Bret McKenzie, was supposed to be in the original short film of this, but he couldn't stop laughing. You asking how they made this without laughing reminded me of that. You should check into their show, or at least some of their songs.
"Vladislav The Poker" is hilarious, as it's directly referencing Vlad The Impaler, voivode of Wallachia (in Romania) in XV century, also known as Vlad Tepes, Vlad III or Vlad Draculea, who was an inspiration for all legends about Count Dracula. Interestingly, supposedly he may have suffered from hemolacria, which is a rare condition, where one's tears are mixed with blood.
I know you're not big on shows(other than "Buffy", which I can't wait for Season 3), but you should definitely check out the series "What We Do In the Shadows"(follows a different group of vampires, but in the same universe), "Wellington Paranormal"(which revolves around O'Leary and Minogue, the two cops who investigate the house and who bring the dog that they think is responsible for Stu's "death"(with them investigating different supernatural events and with a few of the original cast returning).

Re: not eating chips, vampires can't eat anything but blood. They get no pleasure from our food and can't process it. Major down side for me.
Yeah, I forgot about that. I'm like, flying? Yes please. No cheeseburgers? Never mind :(
I loved when Katherine said "Im a vampire now!" and Ashleigh began to scratch her throat

One of my favourite films! And you will love the series just as much, if not more!

I still don't understand how you haven't seen Best in Show. It's another mockumentary with a cast I know you love.
Before WWDITS, I knew Germaine Clement from the musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords. He was also the voice for Tamatoa in Moana.
"We are werewolves not SWEARwolves." Literally one of the funniest movies of all time.
OMG! Here we go! Before I even watch I will echo others and say you MUST watch the series.
OOOO Taika Waititi….. love the sense of humour lol

22:00 - if you like the police officers, there's a whole series with those two as the leads, called Wellington Paranormal.
Great review.

So glad you like the movie - the show is even better!

The show is somehow even better. Colin Roberts is the greatest character in the history of cinema.

I am so excited, can't wait for you to watch the TV series😊
