    It used to blow my mind to not understand why I have a 115mph club head speed and a 163 ball speed and only carry 260 on driver, this is possibly the greatest video I could've watched thank you and I will be making it priority to learn how to hit up on the ball. I hit on trackman and seen my atk angle was -2.0 to -5.0 and didn't understand what it meant until now,

    This was really well done. I have a similar swing speed but suspect it's my shaft lean that gets me in trouble. I generate a lot of spin with my irons. I've got to commit some time to working on making some changes with the driver in my hands.

    great explanation, im using a 13.5 degree driver and its going too high. I have been playing the ball back and its now lower but as per your video I now see why my distance is also shorter. Thanks for this from the sunny Bay of Plenty in hot dry New Zealand.

    Awesome I had this problem at the fitter today. I was carrying about 246 with spin rate around 3300-3500 and negative aoa of -4 to -6. After watching you I think I just need to move my back foot farther back which will in turn move where the club centers itself behind the ball and create an upward angle of attack. I will try this tomorrow.

    Thank you for the video, I was fitted yesterday and found out my attack angle is about -6. Something I would like to work on, this video gives me two idea especially the hands forward. I hit my irons very well and I am now wondering if my hands are to far forward. I will check this with some videos. Thanks again. Great video

    you can learn a lot from the proffesional long drivers. With the caveat that they do it in extremes. They all do 3 things 1)ball way forward 2)very strong grip 3)very closed shoulders. #1 will raise the launch angle, but it also promotes fade-slice. So they do #2 and 3 to compenste for #1 (and still draw it)

      Philip Verbeke its just an Ipad Air 2. Any current iPad or IPhone will provide good video with at least 120 fps. As long as your light is decent, you can avoid shaft blurring.

    I've tried hitting up several times. I hit the ball higher but no distance increase. I hit my 3 wood almost as far as my driver. I've even tried a shorter driver thinking it would be more efficient...no distance increase.

      Jack Flash A couple of questions:
      1. Did you validate that your attack angle was more positive with a launch monitor?
      2. Assuming the answer to the first question was yes, are you hitting it in the center of the face?
      3. Have you tried a lower lofted driver?

    • @jcbak
      @jcbak 6 років тому

      Yes to 2 and 3. I don't have a launch monitor.

    • @thestephensgolfcenter5666
      @thestephensgolfcenter5666  6 років тому

      Jack Flash my guess is that you are adding loft but not hitting up more. Id find a local golf instructor that uses a launch monitor and investigate further, or a club fitter.

    hitting up seems to create its own set of problems. I've been working on hitting up and it blocks and hooks the crap out of it.
    The they say you have to aim further right to allow for the "up" because the club is closing more. Well F... now your blocking and hooking it even more. I guess you have to figure out what works best for you.. that's the hardest part in this game. Maddening..

    • @thestephensgolfcenter5666
      @thestephensgolfcenter5666  7 років тому +1

      MarkwayHomes Hitting up is certainly not for everyone. Proper adjustments in set up need to made when changing attack angle. I would definitely recommend getting with your instructor to discuss the best way to safely increase your attack angle. Keep in mind that the goal is always to hit the ball in the center of the face and find the fairway. However, most amateur golfers could benefit getting the most out of their club head speed as possible, so if you are consistently -3 or more with your AoA with driver it's worth trying to level it out.

    Funny leg work on the back swing pal.?

    This was a great teaching coach, but what you didn't thoroughly explain is, in this instance there are 2 elements creating a vector that control distance increase. Yes, one is attack angle but the other is the launch angle. Together they create an inseparable vector! Also, I don't know if I can agree with your last point about the hands at impact as all long hitters still have an element of shaft lean with their hands leading the club head at impact! What they've done is either tee the ball higher or move it further forward in their stand, therefore the vector stays the same! I assure you their hands don't look like yours at impact. Don't take my word for it, have a look at DJ, Rory, Tony, and of course, the Champ:

    Yep, that is a funky looking swing, bendy knees, almost no hip turn, lots of arm action, I wonder if this dude hits it straight? His drives certainly aren't long if these numbers are to be believed!

    • @thestephensgolfcenter5666
      @thestephensgolfcenter5666  7 років тому +6

      Douglas Morton Never had the best looking swing, that's why I got into teaching! I tried to make all of these swings around 101-104 mph for illustrative purposes. I'm changing attack angle +/- 10 degrees from swing to swing, so you're seeing a bit of manipulation. Played professionally before getting into teaching and I can still get the ball in the hole from time to time 😉

      Which launch monitor were you using? I've not seen a spin rate with driver higher than about 4300 with a Foresight or Trackman.
