  • I wasn't sure what to expect at my first appointment with my prosthetist...here is what the first appointment held!
In 2018, I made the difficult decision to have an elective below knee amputation due to years of constant and mounting pain and over ten ankle surgeries trying to save it. This channel is to document my journey of surgery, recovery, and reclaiming my life.

Mirror therapy is the weirdest thing! I have both of my hands but my physiotherapist uses mirror therapy with me to try & ‘trick’ my brain into believing my hand can move & she also uses desensitisation techniques to try & trick my brain that the pain is ‘normal’. I haven’t had much luck with MT. I’m currently experiencing so much hate towards my right (CRPS) hand so we’re trying different therapies to help with learning to ‘love & accept’ it. You’re doing so good! ❤️

Viickyy .Williams Hi. I totally agree with you! I have CRPS in my left wrist and my physio had me doing mirror therapy. It’s so weird seeing the “left” side of my body do and feel things it can’t normally do! I do feel some benefit from it but it is the weirdest thing when you see the painful part of your body not being painful. At first I thought there is no way that will work but I’m glad I’m wrong! All the best to you in this rubbis( pain journey xx Sarah

Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I'd love to connect with you and talk. I'm in a similar position to you before your amputation. Many surgeries, leg pain for years. Amputation would be my end option, if nothing else helps. I'm recovering from a surgery that I had on October 24 actually to reconstruct some things in my leg. Anywho, thank you so much for openly sharing your journey.
Also, do you have any message boards, resources, or forums you could provide to someone considering amputation as a future option? I'm working on educating myself on remaining options that I have.
Thank you so much and keep working hard in recovery. You are an inspiration to me!

Hi Brave Heart and Sweetheart, how is the healing process progressing? I hope the pain levels subside at least slowly and you can put more weight on new limb. I am looking forward to your mirror therapy video.
    All the best for you!

Sounds like you have a great prosthetist 👌🏻 I have that foot and can highly recommend it, it’s nice and bouncy which is really useful when going up inclines, the only thing to watch out for is go slowly going down slopes as it pings you forwards- it’s kinda like a mini blade and I’ve seen other ampies running on it. But you’re doing so well just take your time and don’t push or rush. Take your time building up wearing your liner and then again with wearing the prosthetic. Some days are amazing and others are frustrating and painful, it does get better tho and you will be amazed at how much you will progress. There’s a great app by ottobock (ottobock fitness app) and it’s like having your own physiotherapist. It’s really great at improving your balance and core strength. Hope you’re doing ok with those crazy nerves firing at night? Heat packs or electric hot water bottles can really help calm them so you can sleep. Hope any of this helps? You’re doing fantastic 💪🏻keep shining bright and your channel is fantastic 🤗

Oh what leg do you use? I'd love to hear! I've been using ice for the pains to try to keep swelling going down still too but do you find heat works better? Maybe I'll try that!! I'll check out that app too, that sounds amazing! :-D Your comments are so helpful to me, thanks for being here on my channel and your awesome encouragement!!!

Footless Jo Anytime! that app is really useful & might save you some $ on physio Sessions 👍🏻 My leg is iceross 5seal liner, Infinite socket (Lim Innovations) with Rheo XC Knee and Proflex XC foot(Ossur). The proflex xc foot has been by far the best ive used. That’s why i said you have a great set up coming 👌🏻 its so responsive & feels more natural to use, its helped speed up my walking compared to the other feet. It wont hold you back at all, as its on par with the Rush Foot which a lot of ampies prefer (My Previous 👣were: Endolite Multiflex 😤👎🏻felt almost wooden & Ossur Elation - good for different heel heights but the Runwayfoot Amy Purdy wears is much better for high heels - just incase you want to give heels a try down the line👠) learning which components are available & the benefits they bring can be like learning a new language so it’s good to ask fellow ampies what they’ve tride & rate. Ice packs can bring on pain hot spots so i was advised to use heat instead, but if it works for you stick with it for sure. The stump Shrinker socks are brilliant to bring down swelling & control pain - cheeky tip: rotate them each day so the elastic stays tight. You may go down in sizes quiet quickly so as soon as they start to get baggy, ask your doc to re-measure you for new ones as they do help to calm the nerve pains. Also when you get your liner slowly build up wearing it over a week or so as they feel heavy to wear & really slimey at first. Rolling it on the first couple of times can be sore - try to spray the outside of the liner before inverting it with isopropyl spray this will make it much easier to roll the liner on and won’t hurt around your scar line. As always take your time and go at your pace 🤗 sending huge hugs and wishing you the very best nights sleep 🤗

Why was your lower leg amputated when the pain was caused by an accident that broke your knee ?
