This is Manson's best album by far in my opinion, every song on this record is a hit, but this one really stood out to me back then, as he stated he didn't want the record to be cliche or followed the trend of nu-metal, but the riff and feel of this song is very nu-metal. Golden age of Grotesque is a masterpiece.
back then i was rather young and i was so disappointed with this album. now, 15 years onwards i rediscovered it and i could not agree more with your words. its a masterpiece. i think, so far, even with the newest albums "which are no more great" - he will always achieve in art what he envisions, he will always express spot on what he wishes to. and thats why i guess, he wont ever get dull as an overall artist.
i thint that to, but as critic i have ti discord, marilyn manson from portrait of am american familly to the golden age of grotesque is really, really good, but you have to admit that the golden age of grotesque was very repetitive in questions of instrumental, (not saying that it was bad), actually for me is one of the best albuns, the best singles, for exemple (this is the new shit, mOBSCENE, Teinted Love), but it was repetitive, i enjoy evry single song of it, but after 2007 marilyn manson album EAT ME DINK ME, he became more personal and less comercial, so he started to fall on sells, (that album is a masterpiece tooo), them we became to this album, that for me is you love it or you hate it: 2009 the high end of low - with is a reunion of every album that came before, for me there are 5 great musics in this album, the others are too stranger for me, and 2012 album born billan was like the same thing, it was better but still too strange, and the tunes nerer combine, again the is like 5 good musics on this album, BUT THEM BECAME 2015 AND MANSON DROPED ANOTHER MASTERPICE : THE PALE EMPEROR: the pale emperor is an album that nobody was expecting, NOBODY, it was soo diferent of the things manson was doing in the past 10 years that everybody likes it, and the album also have win the album of the year for the rolling stones so it was really good, and now with the new album 2017 HEAVEN UPSIDE DOWN - IT WAS SO GOOD THAT I HAVE TO WAIT TO SEE WHAT IS NEXT. A message for EVERYONE attacking my brother: Have YOU ever did ANYTHING that might be considered "bad?" I killed two people. What's worse: accused rape and abuse or cold blooded murder? Truth is, we ALL have many "skeletons" in our closets. It just so happens M is famous and easily attacked as an artist who bravely pushed against societal norms in an effort to WAKE the SHEEPle up. Look-it, I do not condone rape or ANY kind of abuse. I was raped, molested, and constantly abused growing up. (One of the reasons I was drawn to M in the first place.) However, I was NOT THERE. I didn't WITNESS anything. This public "trial and conviction by social media" is absolutely DISGUSTING. And finally, even IF all of it is true, then are we just to completely disregard and destroy EVERYTHING M has done his entire life??? I killed those two assh*les because I had to. To be honest, I agree. America is a free country. We are going off of suspicion and everyone is attacking him without due process, which is his right just as much anyone else. If he did it it's terrible, but we don't KNOW since all we have are allegations. Not enough people are bringing the legitimacy of those accusations.
I attest to that, saw him a couple days ago and it was like seeing him in 2000 again, absolutely brilliant performer, and played a vast array of songs from lots of different albums of his. Stellar show.
