- For being such a daunting task, this is actually a pretty quick scenario!
In this scenario, Barbarossa must complete his conquest of northern Italy by building a Wonder in one of the enemy cities as a sign of power. Thanks to some more Henry the Lion backstabbing, you face four Imperial Age enemies all by yourself, so strike fast!

I’ve been stuck on this scenario for days. You made it look like child’s play.
Granted this was one of the first scenarios that ever came out when the OG game released in 2000. People been crushing this level for years
I just want to express my absolute hatred for this mission, I absolutely detest it. Enemy units multiplying like amoeba.
Venice pushing out ships so fast that you wonder if their ships are getting friction burn leaving the docks.
Enemy buildings being made out of Adamantium while your buildings crumble like crappy mud huts.
hahaha "wondering if their ships are getting friction burn" started laughing OL when I read that in my head nice imagery
If Venice didn't have those Bombard Cannons and Galleon Cannons it would have been easier.
And this was on Standard.
🤣🤣🤣
You got me good man LOL 🤣🤣🤣 I feel you!! This map SUCKS!!
Just immediately take out green, use the onagers to cut down trees where greens castle was and build some walls around it. This was actually easy. Only had 21 vils max. I built a castle right on greens gate first thing before I even made a TC.
I find this scenario harder than the next two. Couldnt manage to finish this one yet
i tried to do what he did but got overrun, i found it easier to hold out on the original area but i run out of resources and the ai had enough resources an army to be a problem with cheats.
@@arkgaharandan5881 Sail a few villagers back to the starting spot and in the bottom right corner of the map is extra gold reserves and try the green enemy because it’s the easiest to defend
Its wild that I spend about 3 hours almost per scenario (on xbox). Watch UA-cam vids and you guys dominate them in 20 minutes average 😅
Real
Most difficult Barbarossa mission imo on any of the three difficulty settings. If you decide to build your base near Padua and take your time, the enemies flood your base with a truly frightening military composition... and it is never easy dealing with Cannon Galleons. Sometimes I take my time and let them siege my base instead of going straight after Padua with my Onagers. What can I say, I love a good siege
Was stuck on this level yesterday, I’m going to go back and try this method out now, cheers!
That was way simpler than what I did. I turtled up on that peninsula for two hours, hiding behind three castles while I slowly carved out Venice with cannon galleons. That Venetian navy and shoreline bombard cannons were such a pain.
The reason Ornlu went for the top island is because he wanted to draw a [redacted] on the minimap
Best defence is a very good offense...
Forget building wonder just attack and never give opponent to collect resources...
Build one TC south with 1 villager, move all the rest up north, build a castle near the wall Padua with 10 villagers, garrison with archers and snipe all oncoming enemies.
then focus on TC north and have 2 TCs pumping villagers. Use knights on siege weapons.
Mine a lot of stone, build lots of castles and garrison archers. Keep repairing castles and snipe all siege weapons with both set of knights. Defend your castles with Teutonic as Verona sends knights.
Destroy North and south Padua buildings, then snipe Venice with trebs.
By now Henry is your enemy, build castles around his base and defend as he sends infantry and rams, don't let any opponent collect stone and gold. Eventually they will break.
It's challenging but fun once you rip them apart
how do you defebd your castles when they send those dromon ships that can hit from far away?
@@NoThisIsntMyChannel Teutons' castles benefit from additional range when upgraded, use this to your advantage, mine stone as much as you can and you can build one castle on the south island near your 2nd base,
One just outside greens walls after you moved almost all your team up north, one on the very edge of the water on the Northern base, beef up with archers, towers and in case you are getting done with bombard galleons, have some fire ships and galleons ready to play cat n mouse go them to chase you within your castles range to finish them off. It is very hectic to manage and defend 5-6 castles while constantly being attacked but once you figure out their attack patterns you will know the key points to place castles
Take over green’s base, build a castle in the middle and a market and have all your villager get gold and wood. (I recommend building the wonder where green’s castle stood)
Then have spare villagers buikd walls upon walls upon walls. The enemy trebs glitch out because they want to hit your castle but can’t. Then sit back and keep producing villagers while building the wonder.
i did this same exact strat but i left greens castle there and just built the wonder out of line of sight of it
This is ridiculously hard, i've done everything but I end up bloody damaging my own dudes with the siege weapons. Highly annoying, not the fastest at controlling units and clicking all over rapidly lol
absolutely! This campaigns with unlimited resources of the AI completely suck!
Verona is the hardest. That's also what I figured out playing this :-)
The easiest way is building up in the south base (castle at crossing point immediately!), defend the second crossing with a castle as well and research crenelations. Take control of the sea by building up a navy and take on Venice. Their army composition is the easiest to take on. Don't forget cannon galleons.
Agree
The idea to abandon the southern base and go north makes this scenario easier. Most of the enemies funnel into those shallows north of the base, which is close to Padua anyway.
Thank you so much! I had never been able to finish this one until today
Is it hard level? I played moderate level and the enemies were much more formidable than this. Early on they’ve already assaulted my castles with cannon galleons.
Wow thank you for this - I was struggling with this one
This scenario was always pretty hard, but with the recent civ changes it has become completely unwinnable, or at least extremely unenjoyable to play. Venice goes completely nuts with a huge land and naval army and so does Verona even when crippling it, which is impossible to do with Paladins or trebs, or hand cannoneers or trash, because their armies are so large and diverse, they can counter everything now, and the dromonds from Venice reach everything.
Defensive play in Henry's base is possible, but you eventually run out of resources and Padua's trebuchets outrange the castles even when they have every advantage.
Yeah, cannon galleons were bad, but dromonds are much worse, especially with the crazy numbers of your three enemies all working together.
Best way to beat this scenario. And is close to the real story. Barbarossa did hide in Padova from the Lombards in Padua!
I don't understand the venisia navy destroy completly my base, destroy my gates and an unstopable army destroy my wonder before i can finish it. Do i trigger some thing? because it's like 60 ships
I think early attack will weaken them
Do you build castle?
I started in south and it was a disaster..venice ships are so much owerpowered. I tried to beat them but only managed to clear 2 islands. they destroyed my whole base 3 castles within. So i took all villagers and 30-40 paladins and attacked directly to tratirous Lion :D I built new base and castles near to him ( away from venice ships ) then beated him. after that i beated yellow and built wonder in it. it took my 5 hours btw.
Very good. I did it, I just did it a little differently. Arriving at the landing site. I already went and built a base and 1 castle right from the start, then I sent the guys from the castle to go get stone and make the second base, meanwhile, as it starts with 400 gold, so when the castle is ready, I already make 2 ramets for help. and I'm already waiting to close the place.
Fuck this one, no matter what I build, they just destroy it and I can't get ressources fast enough to even build a proper army. My siege weapons don't last long, either and I'm just playing on standard difficulty!
I struggle so hard with this one
This mission gave me a lot of trouble when I first played it.
Me too
A year later and I’m here playing it for the first time struggling lol
everything is harder if we choose to build southern base instead of northern base. Henry will betray you, you have no resourses to deal with purple navy and yellow.
Just found ya, and you rock!
Thank you so much!!! I spent so fkin long on this.... I tried your method and it worked second try. The main modifications I made was a villager to repair the onagers and a monk to heal the starting units... My micro is nowhere near as good as yours!
But omg that first castle!!! With crenellations! It absolutely destroys the navy... how the fkin hell did you figure that out?? It's genius omg
Would you mind to play to defeat all the enemies in HARDEST mode?!?!?
I'm surprised to see so many people having trouble with this. Maybe its because I grew up playing this mission as a kid and got all the frustration out then lmao. But the Teutons have literally the best castles in the game with their range and extra arrow fire. It makes ripping through the Venetian boats/enemies much easier. You can either be aggressive or turtle up with cannoneers and Castles. Teutons are a defensive CIV by trade so it lends itself well to deploy this strategy
I barely built this wonder by exact resources for it
and last few villagers building it while my last few units defending it died lol ! it was epic close
I took the long path of castling the original camp and taking on Venice after settling a second group on the northern island. It was hard and it took all day but I succeeded in the end despite having to build a wonder twice having initially placed it on the wrong island.
Tried assaulting green from the northeast. Destroyed their TC, stable and castle but yellow and purple keep interrupting before I can clear green's base. So I built walls and more castles to fend off yellow while building up a navy to fight off purple and yellow from the sea.
Once I completed the wonder I saw that they still have a lot of forces left on the west unreachable by navy, but didn't attack for some reason. Green even rebuilds with lots of trebs, which they never use after their first one is destroyed.
I definitely have chosen the long way round on this. I've got 4 defensive castle on the northern peninsula and reduced venice to ashes with Cannon Galleons, but they still produce 10 bombard cannons at a time outside the wall. I never had to face cannon galleons, but I'm on moderate, so maybe that's why. Tempted to take padua down at this point rather than build the wonder in venice just to relieve me of treb pressure. You can also assault half of verona with cannon galleons, but it takes some micro against their scorpions and monks.
Won it just now after a few dozen attempts. Took me only 26 minutes. Do not attempt to turtle this campaign. You cannot win. Wave after wave of Trebs, rams, Genoese Crossbows and cavs will hit you and the enemy navy is going to be over whelming. Easiest method would be load all your troops and get them south. Have the vills build a TC and houses. Put the first ones on gold. Take the rest along the coast and set up a new base just outside Purples walls. Build a castle and TC. Start spamming vills now. The southern base won't be attacked and the one you are at can be held by the castle and your troops. Collect 700+700 stone from both nearby mines and gold available from each mines on both sides. When you have enough of gold, stone and wood, attack the small island belonging to purple. Take down the castle and 3 Bombard towers. Send all vils to build the wonder here. The TC near this base can send in additional vills to help
Huh, I have just beaten this scenario 5 minutes ago and appearantly I did something no one else in these comments did.
I dropped my villagers in the south to mine stone and built a market, I then sold all of my food and 700 wood and used the gold to buy the resources I needed for the Wonder. I then landed inside Verona's walls with my starting army and destroyed their guard towers, military buildings, farms and TC. Once everything was clean and there was enough space for the Wonder, I took my villagers to Verona and built 5 layers of wall to avoid those pesky Halberdiers and GenBows. I then started building on the edge of the map and that made me completely safe. Ships could not reach my wonder or villagers because of the bridge in Verona while land units were distracted by the layers of wall I built. Took me a total of 20 minutes to finish this, did not even need a TC. I must admit it took me like 6 hours to figure it out tho. Before trying this method I attempted booming but enemies would overwhelm tf outta me, I fought them till the very end, but I lost because I was oom on gold, had a goddamn mental breakdown man. Honestly fuck this scenario.
Edit: ofc I played this on Hard.
When I try this and get to the Padau gate, on standard difficulty, a knight rush with gens just comes out the gate and wrecks me!🙈
you definitely want to build a castle at the coast to ward off the venetian fleet and research crenellations as soon as possible and load up the castle with 20 halberdiers for maximum firepower.
still this mission took me hours to finish, especially because the enemy seemed to have limitless resources and the villagers kept constructing new stables, barracks, town centers every time i destroyed some. use trebuchets and inch your way forward. build forward bases in the form of castles and additional military buildings. defeat henry first and then make your way up italy.
This one is damn right impossible, I cannot beat it!!
Any advice on macro/micro management with hotkeys and groupings with military? I've tried this like 5x on standard and the AI just overwhelms me
When are you doing Gajah Mada? Cause some of those missions are hell man.
Indeed they are! We're going in chronological order, and we will get to Gajah Mada in about 100 years :P (2-3 campaigns)
I finally beat this mission on hard! I immediately eliminated the purple or Venice first because I need to control the sea to secure food source and the purple build annoying cannon troops that can destroy my castle. Took me over 1 hour.
Any chance you could do this campaign again? What with the AI being much better now, I feel like this and some other campaign missions on hard are on a completely different level and I'd love to see what approach you'd take instead.
is this mission bugged in the latest patch or something? enemy and ally AIs ignore each other and the enemy AI is going straight for my villagers like it knows where they are without any scouting.
Bruh the padua attack me instantly
I made my base in the south. Then i cleared the Venice islands. Made a great army of boats to attack Venice again and put the wonder in their small island with the bombard towers. Your method is wat better.
Can you do this one again on hard. From watching your video to now they must have overtuned this a crazy amount they have way more troops and defenses than what is shown in your video. It's actually impossible with both starting areas. I literally cannot defeat any of them. They have too many troops and defenses :(
this is a very difficult mission even on standard, i cant beat it at all.
how do you defebd your castles when they send those dromon ships that can hit from far away?
8:10
The AI Onager dodge is pure BS, I get it's necessary evil for artificial difficulty but a quite frustrating way for player nevertheless. I've literally used pause to place Onager shots box in on 3 sides and you guessed it it legged the only opening the at the very frame shot's fired... And at least whenever I'm looking it tends to do so with very few fails, unless it's large enough group for units to trip over each other's feet when pathfinding.
But whatever they tend to blow up more of my men than enemy in my hand anyways... Seriously here you had more success and AI failure to dodge than I've ever had with Onagers....
no one wanted to fight 4 opponents...
Do you work with the developers? =D
I didn't built a wonder i just killed everything.
Hey guys, for the people who are struggling a lot on this one. It turns out if you built your wonder right on tiny peninsula on the land that Ornlu settled in, it still counts as a wonder inside Venice's walls, making you cheesing the scenario that way.
I think they fixed this in DE though or in a later patch at least, now you can't cheese it this way :(
My style: tryna eliminate all of enimies
I think defend the fort and build another base in northeast r ez.
the only problem i had here is the fcking bombard -_- freaking annoying
Or destroy the Henry the lion first
Am I the only one who can't build cannon galleons in the definitive version?
what buttons to rotate gates?
ctrl+scroll is the default
@@aggeagge1234 thx
On mine I’m limited to 75 pop
hd or og version de changed some things
Yea same it’s so fuckin stupid
i think this was patched. catapults have shorter range now. and they will deploy Dromon where it outranges your Castle...
Research Crenellations: Gives Castles +3 range
not one dromon ship wtf
So far, the only way how to complete this mission I've seen is basically through an exploit, as their superarmy (which I was trying to hold off by attempting to play legitimately) cannot reach you, that's just nice... and since I don't know any of the shortcuts and cannot do my micro in any way close to yours, what takes you 5 minutes takes me like 20. In conclusion, this mission is so poorly designed.
I have no idea why they even bothered to place so many resources on the map and the islands, as trying to fight for them is a death sentence, with the purple sending dozens and dozens of ships your way, and every single ship micromanages their movement, meaning you are always losing, it's just bonkers trying to win the naval war. Oh, and the cannon galeons? You try doing that, I've lost probably 10 of them due to it taking forever to destroy any enemy towers, but Venice sends new fire ships like every 30 seconds, and since they can take so much punishment and your bombar ships melt in seconds, you have micro insanely well, which I simply can't.
lol yeah the AI doesn't function like this for me.
Yes the AI is much smarter since this video aired. I advice you to build a castle and get a trebuchet ASAP so you can attack Padua.
Total idiocy this mission
skip 2min 35 sec
Enemy khights on this mission are OP only 1 of them can literrally kill your max level and upgrade units even with more than 30vs1 khight and sometimes the AI trows like 30 khights out of nowhere 😂😢jesus christ this mission is the worst in the entire game
The AI nowadays is much more difficult than your video's
I guess i am retarded. It took me 5 hours to beat this mission and i want to uninstall.
Yeah I just wasted a decent 4 hours minimum on the easy difficulty and speed set to slow, yet all the hostiles built and sent armies like crack heads. And yes I said F this and uninstalled.
I’m retarded too. Sometimes it’s better to just restart and try a different strategy or because you got a bad start. For less skilled players like myself sometimes I just miss the moment to do something and it’s better to give it another try rather than spend 5 hrs slogging it or throwing away more time to a futile run
