    Hi... What a pretty card! Love it. Sooooooooooo many great little tips. Thank you so much. You may need more than one pair of readers - one for close-up and one for a little further away. The way to pick them is to actually go to a store that sells readers and hold up something to read - first close up and then further away - and then choose the strength of the lenses for both pairs if you need more than one reader.

    I wear two different strength contacts. One is for close work, and one is for distance. I thought it would be hard to get used to. It was almost instantaneous! I have been wearing them like this for over 15 years. I am in my early 60's and still trainable. 😂❤

      I wore 2 different contacts for years! Left for distance and right for close up! A few years ago we discovered that I no longer need the contact for close up, so now I’m just a one lense girl! But, if I’m spending the day crafting I find the distance lense gives me some trouble to do things like fussy cutting 🤷‍♀️ so I just don’t wear it.

    Maymay, I wore multi focal glasses for years until cataract surgery. Now I use readers occasionally, but I can see better than ever. The multi focal glasses were life changing as I no longer needed to change from readers to walking around glasses-I was a teacher at an elementary school. They were suggested by the optometrist, and were wonderful! Good luck!

    I have a suggestion for the glasses/contacts. You may have tried it already. I wear contacts that are my prescription and buy readers for my crafting. I buy my readers at Dollar Tree and have them all over the house. If you find you need need 2 different strengths of readers, they are cheap enough you can buy them. I would mark them on the arms with fingernail polish. I only found I needed a different strength with reading music for directing my choir. Now that I am retired, I don't have to worry about it!

    Hi Maymay, I've worn glasses since I was in the 6th grade as I am near sighted. I've worn contacts for a while but as I've gotten older, I need both contacts and readers so I decided if I have to wear glasses, I will just wear Progressive lens glasses. Since I work from home and am on Zoom at least twice a day; I noticed that I wasn't seeing the computer very well. I was actually doing what you do and that was remove my glasses to see the computer screen. When I went to the eye doctor for my annual check-up, I asked about "Computer Glasses" as there was a pamphlet in her office. Well I bought a pair of "Computer Glasses" and they have been a life changer!! I love them so much that I have been known to go out on errands wearing and driving with the wrong glasses!! If you haven't tried glasses for when you use the computer, I'd give them a try. Hope this helps you with your glasses dilemma.

    I just wear trifkcals. It solves the problem of the blurry mid- zone.
    Maymay, I just tape the dies all together and maximize my cut. Then I can lift the whole thing up and lay it down on the next sheet.
    I don't like to lay dies next to each other without tape and have them move on the plates. It's worth the extra step in my opinion.

    Oh! I get to help you in return for all the help you've given me? Cool! I absolutely cannot wear trifocals/progressives (my brain just can't adjust to them) and I don't need distance glasses in the house, so I buy my readers at Dollar Tree. They cost $1.50 a pair. I buy +2.0 which my eye doc said is actually too strong, but I tried on glasses until I had the same close up eyesight which I had when I was twenty years younger. It felt right and it makes it possible not just to read tiny labels on food packages but also to easily put the pin back in my Art Glitter Glue, to thread needles, and to bead with small seed beads (like Delicas). I bought a second pair which is +2.5 for beading with size 15 seed beads--they give me back the close up eyesight I had forty years ago! I do have to take the readers off when I need to see anything farther away than a foot--but I'd have to take a magnifying lens off, too, and those are big, bulky, ugly, and $30 at the craft store compared to $1.50, so no contest. Thank you for all the tips in this video (that card is adorable!) and I hope you find a really great solution that helps you as much as the readers have helped me. Take care!

    I had to start using “mono vision”. I can see fine close up with my regular vision in my left eye and have a contact for far vision in my right eye. It did take me about 4 months to completely adjust but I’m so glad I gave it enough time to work for me. I would hate to have to take glasses on and off all of the time!

  • @carolhenderson1156
    @carolhenderson1156 2 місяці тому +1

    I wear one contact (a +2.25) in my left eye for close up and nothing in my right eye for far away. It's called monovision and have done this for over 20 years, eliminates the need for readers.

  • @thatssassy9697
    @thatssassy9697 2 місяці тому +1

    When I pick readers, I don't just look for the same number. It all comes down to where you naturally rest them on your nose and the shape of the cut of the lens to fit the frame they are in. I have found that dollar tree readers are just as good as high dollar ones. The problem I have found with prescription readers is that I am short waisted so therefore closer to my craft table. So I use readers based on that distance, then a different reader strength for just reading.

  • @creeationsphotographydesig9892
    @creeationsphotographydesig9892 2 місяці тому

    When I first started needing readers, I got a pair from my optometrist. They were quite expensive, but I figured they’d be better than drugstore variety. You will find out that one pair of readers is not enough, I ended up with a pair in every room. But after the first fancy pair, I just went to the drugstore and picked them up for cheap. Take a little something with you that you can judge which magnification wil Be best at the distance you want to hold your work..

    My eyesight has been pretty bad for a long time. I’m 69 now and it started going downhill when I was 38. Before that I was eagle eyed! I’ve always loved to craft, sew, cross stitch, etc. I’ve tried so many things. I used to always use a device called Mag Eyes, which you wear kind of like a headband or visor and you can wear it over your glasses. It worked pretty well but my head would start to hurt or my forehead would get hot underneath it. It also looks kind of funny so I was hesitant to use it in the car, and cross stitching on long trips is something I used to always do. When my eyes were at their worst I finally asked my optometrist if he could make me a set of crafting glasses with super strong prescription at the lower part of the lens and my regular prescription for the rest. He asked what type of crafts I did and at what distance I needed them to focus and he designed them accordingly. It was in a year when I had insurance coverage to get new lenses but my regular prescription hadn’t changed so I used my coverage for the crafting lenses and reused an old frame. It was maybe the best thing I’ve ever done. I had glasses that looked like my regular glasses, they didn’t slide down from being too heavy like some clip on magnifiers do, I could look up from my crafting and still be able to see instead of having to move a magnifier. They were great. I had cataract surgery a couple of years ago and the lens implant has solved a lot of my worst problems but I got a new, adjusted set of craft glasses because they work so well. Hope this helps you💕

    I have had progressive glasses for about 20 years. I never have to change glasses for anything that I do. Close-up is on the bottom and distance is on the top of the lenses. It takes a couple days to get used to them but it becomes second nature. Your eyes just automatically find where you need to look through.

  • @zgirl3995
    @zgirl3995 2 місяці тому

    I have good success with progressive lenses (no-line bifocals) The power changes gradually from near to far so you can tip your head or move what you’re working on to a clear place in the lens. If you ask your eye doctor, she can write your prescription as “computer glasses” so that the top or distance part of your lens is set for the distance of a computer monitor. That increases the plus power in the trifocal part of the lenses. I work in my husband’s optometric practice. I tell new progressive wearers to point their nose at what they want to see, adjusting their head until it becomes clear. It takes a little practice but progressive lenses give you various powers so you can make images at various distances sharp by a tip of your head. But what works for one person doesn’t work for another. So keep trying! Best wishes! One more note- if ordering progressive lenses, I wouldn’t do it online. You’ll need good lens measurements for a good fit. Good luck!

    I too have mono vision - one contact sees street signs and the other sees computers. For close work like reading and stamping and knitting I use readers. I bought 3 different strengths and chose the one that I could see through second best. My occultist thinks you should make the eyes do some focusing work and not rely solely on the readers, so that’s whaI I did/do. I see well with this system but it took me probably 3 or 4 months to work it all out and I was a bit nauseous at first! Good luck.

    I worked in opticians in devon uk. A lens if you do it there Is an occupational lens. Which is like a varifocal upside down. So it has a lot of reading and an intermediate level. But little distance. I think that would work. Trouble is as soon as you do the reading up close the mid range will become difficult. So I think the occupational is the way to go

    Now, do you wear contacts normally? I do, but my biggest struggle is the computer distance and reader distance. I have several pairs of readers if I’m just reading. and I have prescription readers for when contacts are out at night. But my best pair is a prescription combo readers and midvision for computer distance that I wear when I have contacts IN. So they are bifocal, but not for distance. (Which I also have bifocal and reader since both far sighted and near sighted, but that’s a different pair!)

    I have trifocals but insteadof them all in one pair of glasses. I have distance and bifocal in one set and computer/ desk distance with bifocals in the other. 7:39

    The reading glasses I have from the optometrist are for normal reading. It may depend on your eyes though. I have a near-sighted eye and a far-sighted eye. When I do detail work, I assume my near-sighted eye does the work. I'm left handed and my left eye is the near sighted eye. I only use my readers when coloring or very detailed work like fussy cutting. I don't need them for stamping or using my trimmer. If my eyes are tired at the end of the day and I want to color or fussy cut, then I definitely need them so I don't mess up my project. Never had to use readers until I turned 65 so I feel lucky in that respect since I hate glasses. I was afraid to try progressive lenses as they are hard to get used to. I put some on at the doctor's office and didn't feel that I needed to wear glasses all the time so I got readers. The hardest part is keeping track of them. Good luck finding the right answer to your vision problem.

    I wear bifocal contacts, and I struggle with this so much also. Most of the time, I take my contacts out and just have my glasses for distance near me because I can see better without the near correction. It is SUPER FRUSTRATING!

    If you haven't- check out bifocal contacts. My bifocal runs around the outside of the contact

    SGV files are no help for me as I do not own a die cutter machine. Cannot afford one at this time.

    Maymay did you notice how you told us to keep one cutting plate clean and then you IMMEDIATELY proceeded to cut into it? Our minds just won't cooperate with our actions lol

    I pick glasses that are kind of “stiff” so they don’t close easily….makes putting them on and off while working easily (and one-handed). Also when trying them on, I look down to make sure they stay on my face while looking down. Some are too loose and drop. S I G H…..
