    Listen to Maymay, just go for it. I wanted to try a folio so I watched one of her folio videos and just used some basic cardstock to start. You quickly learn what works best for what folio. Since that first video I have made no less than 50 folios in all shapes and sizes. I have been able to accomplish this by watching her and then adding my own twists, turns and flaps. You could say that I am now obsessed with folio making. My friends and family love them because they are much more compact that a traditional scrapbook and you can document birthdays, new babies, vacations, life events and even weddings. They are much prettier than a big scrapbook and so much easier to store. Thank you Maymay for getting me started on folio making!

    Such great info. I started making some of your folios two years ago, using 80# card stock. And for small layered folios it works. As I've made more folios and more complicated folios, I have learned what types of card stocks work best. I think the best advice you gave in this video, was at the end - Until you make some of these folios and feel them in your hand, you can't know what card stock is going to work best.

    I made the simple base of your original folio out of 65#, 80#, and 110# just to see the difference. What I noticed was with the lighter weight paper, the fold creases started to look worn and they just felt cheaper, especially as I started to build up the panels. I settled on 110# for the base with 65# for the matting and decorative paper. And you're right, everyone who picked one up couldn't believe that it was just paper!

    Maymay I love making you folios. Whether they are photo albums or notepad holders they are fun and satisfying to create. Best of all they have been consistent best sellers at craft fairs. Thanks for today's valuable information. Gonna save it in my "best tips and tricks" playlist.

    I 've just made my first folio and I was upset because it was not sturdy as Maymay's. And then, I found this video. Thank you for the encouragement. I needed it. I will keep crafting even if the result is not what I expected!

    Maymay I'd like to request one other "how to" video. Could you please show us how to determine the measurements of different size notepad folios. If I want folios for 4x6 or larger 81/2x11 pads how do I decide paper size and score lines. Please help. Thanks

    Thank you for these tips! I have a question, similar to others... When you're deciding on measurements to create a folio, do you have to add a bit where the score lines are?

    19:02 I was wondering about this, 'what weight of card stock is best'? Thank you for letting me know that my thinner cardstock is just as good as the expensive one. I don't even have to agonize 😅 which side I'm going to use. Thank you so much.

    I made two folios today with 65 lb card stock then used Mintay for mats on one and Echo Park paper pack on the other. They feel sturdy. They will be more so when photos are added along with decorations. ❤making these!

  • @pollyh7715
    @pollyh7715 5 місяців тому +2

    ??Question. How does one discover the weight of different companies papers? In trying to research I found no set standards. They all seem to be “cardstock” with weights ranging from 65# (Echo Park) to 80# (Carta Bella) to 110+# (49th &Market)! The light, medium, and heavy designations have a huge range which is distinctly unhelpful. It seems that the only standard is chipboard which is >120#!

    Sure wish I had seen this back in February when I started making my granddaughter a folio for her senior year. I used 110 lb. Card stock. I also used 110 for the waterfalls and everything inside. It got really bulky. I started with a one inch spine and ended up having to split the spine to make a two and half inch spine. It would look better had I used less weighted card stock for inside, but she loved it and I had fun making it. Thank you for all he information. Sue Brannon

    I love the heavier weight and stability of 110lb card but struggle with cracking at the score line…I’ve tried scoring both sides as well as lightly misting the score line before folding, any secrets to share on how to avoid the cracking?

    • @lindaedwards1111
      @lindaedwards1111 5 місяців тому +3

      Cardstock has a grain; scoring and folding with the grain will prevent cracking. Hold the cardstock with both hands and try to lightly bend it into a u-shape, lengthwise and widthwise. One side will give you less resistance; that is the side running with the grain.

Are you going to get back in stock the stamps for place photos here and the different sizes? I have been looking everywhere for one.

    Is the Carta Bella Felt in the Black discontinued? I use that one all the time for things. Which would come the closest to the quality of the Carta Bella Felt? Paper Accents Coverstock 80 lb or Carta Bella Linen? Do they both score well without cracking? Thanks you.

    • @cathylloyd7765
      @cathylloyd7765 5 місяців тому

      Folding against the paper grain cracks the cardstock. Look for videos on paper grain. If paper bends easily in a direction then that is the grain direction. Bending is done gently by holding opposite sides. If more resist then you are against the grain and cardstock or paper is more likely to Crack.
