Fun Facts:
- Pink was considered a color suitable for boys because it was the color of badly washed blood stains that soldiers came home with, while blue was considered a "girl's color."
- High heeled shoes were invented to make men appear taller
- Men wore kilts, that only reached down to the knee, before women shortend their skirts
To this day I don't get why pink is now stereotypically girly. To me pink is much more of an intimidating color than blue. Blue is the color of the sky and the sea. Pink is the color of flesh and, like you said, blood stains. Anyway, all this is based on stereotypes anyways.. it's just, I'd think people who believe in stereotypes WOULDN'T stereotype pink as the dainty color
high heels were actually invented for butchers so they weren’t stepping in as much blood! and pink was a boy color bc it’s the color of raw meet.
imagine wearing pink because your mom wants to remind people that you're the same gender as the people drafted to war
If it was invented for men then why do I get so many looks when I look at then let alone complimenting them, am I trans NO my friend said that I was fluid what ever that means
Heels were first invented for infantrymen so that they could stand in the saddle without their foot slipping out of the stirrup. It was then adopted by other trades because of its practicality. Another example of how war leads to advancement through history.
Honestly, people being hateful but making a fool of themselves is just such a treat because it turns their hate into something you can laugh about!

I want to share a kind of accidental Ally story:
I have this friend who introduced himself as trans, when we first met at the internet, of course. A long time we didn't know what the other one looked like and when we finally met I was like "Awwwww man, he's sooo cute why does he want to be a woman?" Well... let me go on with the story. Some months later I wanted to send him some stuff I thought he might like. To do so, I asked for his address. Turned out at that time that he had a female name and it hit me so, so hard that I couldn't help but ask "Wait... you're a girl?" Long story short, he was happy to hear, that he didn't look like a girl at all, even before he started treatment. I still love that moment. Why? Because it made a friend happy. And I like it when friends are happy. :D
Its like a whole accidental ally.
The reason homophobic people are using the trans flag is that, they are using it as a straight pride flag, and they say that the blue is for men, pink for women, and the white is for purity.

“What?”
“Do you have a girlfriend?”
“Not yet.”

BRO UR GRANDMA IS SO COOOLLLL
My heart- MY HEART- TOO WHOLESOME- I'M TEARING UP (literally, I'm not just saying that) MY H E A R T T^T
Speaking of wholesome grandmas, my mum told her mum that I was nonbinary (her outing me wasn't an issue since I'm lucky enough to be part of a very progressive family). Turned out that not only did my grandma already know about nonbinary genders and they/them pronouns, but she'd also figured out I was enby ages ago! She also guessed I was panromantic even back when I thought I was a lesbian (figuring yourself out can be a labyrinth sometimes). I freaking love her so much. I literally happy cried!
Awwww
@ElizaDrawsStuff wth
Aight guess I'm LGBT+ bc my mum gave me too much love.
@ElizaDrawsStuff meanwhile my mom raised both me and my brother with plenty of love, and ended up with him being straight and me being an asexual who thinks girls are pretty. :P
If you don’t give your children enough love they’ll just be depressed AND gay.
@ElizaDrawsStuff glad to hear your mom was a lot better than those grandparents! I was mostly rolling my eyes at the idea that “not raising your son straight” (ie, with love and affection) would result in a gay son. My parents had two kids and the gay one did not in fact turn out to be the son “not raised straight.” ;)
My school is actually very supportive in the smallest ways and it's great. I'm getting to the story.
So I was filling out a form for school and I noticed the "preferred pronouns" section. As a demigirl/mid-transition enby, this made me super happy. I did end up putting she/her instead of they/them though, because I knew the staff might use these pronouns around my mom and I'm not out to anyone except my friend yet, but I digress. My mom comes home, asked if I filled out the form, and decides to check it out. She sees the preferred pronouns section, and goes on a rant for about 10 minutes about how "broken" the world is and how they shouldn't be doing this around "children". I'm 13, going into 8th grade. So she continues ranting, and I realized who I wasn't coming out to any time soon. Can you guess who that is?
I also plan on secretly going to the GSA(Gay-Straight Alliance) club next year, mostly out of spite.

okay but the one about the “wrong body” thought experiment where the guy “tricked” the other guy into being pro trans, like. Solid gold.
At the same time, tho, imagine this for nonbinary people, like, “you’re a happy and content mist-like void with undefined dimensions and a complex area that changes in color, shape, and density depending on the day. Now, you’re suddenly inside of a human vessel and you can’t get out. How would you feel?” “Umm… that’s… oddly specific….” “Indeed! Now, how would you feel??”
ok but we're not all like that
Nonbinary is more like: you could put my brain into a male body and i wouldnt care that much... but i dont know how to explain that to transphobes...
Non binary is it's own umbrella term and everyone experiences it differently.
The amorphous form which phases through different properties in a void being confined is accurate for me. But not for everyone else.

I told her that I'm planning to grow it longer and her only concern was that long hair are harder to maintain. She did not say anything against men having long hair.
Unfortunately, she has dementia so she wouldn't understand if I ever came out to her. So I will never be able to come out to her and I will never know if she'd support me or not.
Would you count her as wholesome or not?
I think she is as long as she's not hurting you. Doesn't matter intentionally or not. She's just an old human, she might not understand some stuff already, but she does love you as you are as much as her mind lets her. Why bother yourself with such depressive things? I think these thoughts just make your life harder.

@@michellemunkhtulga4995 trans girl is male to female transition. And trans guy is female to male.
@@CLEARR-E- Thanksgiving you
She sounds wholesome but tragic.
Honestly, as a kid I always thought trans people actually swapped their brains..
But I didn't really get where they'd get the bodies, so first I thought they'd put the brains in like dead bodies of people that gave their bodies to trans people instead of 'science' or smth haha. Then I figured that'd be weird so trans people must just have like a dating program where a transwoman and transman get together and their brains get swapped. I wasn't very good at biology...
😦
Wish that happened
I mean you're not alone, society seems to be collectively bad at biology considering the idea of "male brain" and "female brain" are so deeply engrained. The truth is that compared to other primates, humans don't actually have that much sexual dimorphism (biological difference between sexes).
@@MorbidMoonflowerEh, I would dispute that, considering that humans are the only mammals to have permanent breasts, while the mammary glands of other mammals only swell up when they are nursing their young and at all other times aren’t really noticeable, which can make it hard to tell males and females apart. Now I’m not an expert, but from what I know about primates I’d say that humans have the same or greater sexual dimorphism, not less, when compared with the other primates.
And while male brains and female brains technically don’t exist, it’s a useful oversimplification to help people better understand the trans experience. Yes, it’s technically wrong, but in the same way that Newtonian mechanics are wrong. It’s a good enough explanation for most people in their daily lives. And really, EVERY topic is waaay more complicated if you study it closely, but we don’t have time to study everything in that kind of depth, so for things outside of our area of expertise we have to settle for more basic explanations.
I'm so glad that society is moving forward. My friend who just found out that they are non-binary informed my theater teacher that they want to go by Sam instead of their dead name, and our teacher is absolutely fine with it. It makes me so happy to see these changes in our world.
Oh yeah we have a teacher who if you dead name a student, he pretends said student doesn't exist and keeps doing it until the person uses the student's chosen name.

I have a story about my homophobic uncle accidentally being an ally. A few years ago at my cousin's birthday dinner, right before Australia had the postal vote asking people if we should legalise gay marriage, the conversation shifted to our views on the subject. Needless to say, my uncle was loudly against it, but as part of his argument he said to me "What if someone told you that you couldn't marry someone, that I forbid you from marrying a man". It's now a joke between my brother and I that I'm forbidden from marrying a man (I'm aroace and not interested in marriage).
(As a humorous side note he also said that everyone in our state will make the right choice in the vote, and guess what state had one of the highest percentages of yes votes 😁)
Even the district that votes for Tony Abbott voted in favor of same sex marriage.
It sounds like he was for legalized marriage? XD
I just don’t get his argument lmao. No one is stopping straight people from marrying.??
Alright, can we talk about how PERFECT the execution of that "if your brain were to be put into the wrong body" argument was used?
I mean as a CIS male that...fucking made sense to me...Like, I could actually use that argument to put myself in the shoes of someone being trans.
I didn't especially need that because I don't need to be in someones shoes in order to support them.
I am not that self centered that I need to have the same issue in order to want to help and support people because...Well...I have empathy....
but that argument is still freaking amazing!
I will remember that because my god it might actually work on some closed minded people that can't look beyond their own nosetips!

i had a grandma that bought a pride braclet that had the word "ally" on it in rainbow, and she thought it meant she was friends with everyone and didnt know the meaning behind it. i told her what it really meant and she didnt care because people are people and their minding their own buisness but if people arent supporting them, she will. i love her.
Being friends with everyone sounds like it would be an awesome superpower. You could make anyone your friend. And if someone is homophobic or transphobic, having them be friends with someone who is friends with a homosexual or trans person might make them more intelligent.
@@VannyBeumer tbh the biggest change in opinion for a transphobe or homophobe is quite literally meeting someone who is gay and/or trans. then they kinda have to acknowledge it as somewhat real.

Companion and Mate meant different things back in the day.
Mate sometimes just was shorthand for 'person he wasn't allowed to marry but had a "community of property" arrangement with'.
But other times it was just friends with benefits or one night stand.

I have mixed feelings about this subreddit. On the one hand, it's definitely funny to see people trying to be bigoted and failing so hard that they become supportive. On the other hand, unlike, say, r/SaphhoAndHerFriend, the confusion normally isn't coming from a place of wholesome misunderstanding but rather a desire to be hateful.
That said, OT always makes every topic enjoyable, so keep it up!
Yeaj, I see that. And (with the exception of that video clip of a man answering a bigot) the bigots are not seen to learn that they're wrong.

_"Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations"_ is about the most queer-friendly concept to come out of media in the last century. I don't think it was as much an accident as the person who got that tattoo thought it was.
It's a nice concept, but doesn't really make much sense in a realistic application.
@@ryandavidson675 I'm not sure you really understand the concept of IDIC.
“It represents a Vulcan belief that beauty, growth, progress~ all result from the union of the unlike. As the union of words and music creates song...”
IDIC is to accept and embrace diversity in a way that differences can combine in a mutual and open way to create things that are beautiful.
Be wary of the bigots who claim IDIC means they are included as part of diversity. The fact that bigots DO NOT accept or embrace diversity excludes them from the concept by default.

It's really not that hard
Haha... Well, at least it sounds like she was trying to support your identity, just got confused. I'd honestly say that's better than an accidental ally just because intent matters more than what they actually say.
Sad that I can’t even tell ‘em, my sisters can’t get me too I wish I could run away regardless of anything that can go wrong after it. I’m egoist and I’m ok with it
From experience, when I was a teen (but still pro-rights even back then), it took a long time to wrap my head around what was what between trans men and trans women. When I first found the concept, my initial confusion was that "trans" was meant as a modifier on the physical sex of the person. SO I thought if someone was a trans man, they were physically a man but identified as a woman. I was obviously way wrong, but that's how ingrained the Sex=Gender idea is in social consciousness, I think.
It took time, online research, and exposure to trans communities for me to really wrap my head around the understanding that sex isn't gender, because it's never really taught to you, you have to seek that knowledge out. Only then was I able to understand that "trans" wasn't a modifier, it was a signifier, a word pointing to the gender a person WANTS to represent and be. And then more time to understand that they WERE the gender that the word "trans" was signifying, regardless of the body they were in.
So it took me a while to wrap my head around the trans experience and what all the key words meant, and I think you can tell from some of the posts in the video who is really in that beginner stage of "I have a surface level knowledge of this subject and I don't really understand the concept" and still are clinging onto the notion that sex=gender.
Doesn't excuse the behavior of those people in the posts in the slightest, but its still something I felt was interesting to analyze. If for no other reason than to know where those misunderstandings tend to lie, so we can educate people who are open to that new knowledge.
Sex=Gender is ingrained even in the LGBT movement. If it didn't matter, people wouldn't put all the effort into looking like the other sex. It literally comes down to identity. Trans is a modifier because they are choosing to identify with traits associated with the opposite sex, otherwise there wouldn't be a reason to transition.

I was expecting it to call for violence when it literally says the equivalent of "just because you like something associated with the opposite gender doesn't mean you ARE that gender which is true. Unless there is a different extended version, I'm not seeing the -phobic part.
Growing up, I watched "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys." I remember Hercules being this great heroic character. If any being, not just humans, were capable of communication and kindness, he not only talked to them, but would fight to defend them. He talked about treating women with kindness and respect. There was even an episode where he fought against a very angry town, arguing that a centaur had the right to work and take care of his family, same as every person there.

The thing is,
The ones that object the hardest are statistically most likely to be lying about their own desires.
Like those who never think about gay funtime don't get upset about the idea of it,
Because it means nothing to them.
But the ones that do think about it want others to show the same discipline they are showing to themselves.
Typically being part of the alphabet mafia is genetic and the more offspring that are gay the more likely it is to be genetic. The research is limited in this area so I may be wrong, but make of that info what you will.
Omg so my sister once came home from school knowing the definition of pansexual and started talking about it and my parents jumped to the conclusion that her school was forcing kids to self-identify SMH

Why would you think a trans person would still want to be called the gender they no longer identify with just with one adjective?
Because transphobes are self-centered and view the entire world from their cisnormative standards, in their heads, a MtF is always a "man" and therefore they think they're called "trans man" because their tiny brains can't comprehend the rest of society referring to them by their actual identity and preferred pronouns.
I know it sounds too dumb to be true, but I grew up in a very christian conservative family and they really believe that. (ashamed to admit I was a part of the problem until I realized I was lgbt and did some research)

12:04 - it always makes me roll my eyes when certain Christians see anything about Pride month and feel like they are being attacked (even when they haven’t been mentioned). Because these people are openly admitting that they have cherry-picked bits of their religion to match their bigotry, and forgotten/chosen to ignore that Jesus’s whole thing was to love and accept others, even if they are different to you. I’m not a Christian, but I went to a Christian school and I feel like I have a better understanding of their religion than these bigots do lmao. Edit: On the plus side, the fact that this person accidentally used a trans flag is GOLD. 😂
As a Christian these people confuse me, you definitely understand Christianity more than them
As a Christian I fully agree with you! It's sad to see so many try to use religion as a shield to unnecessarily harm and hate others.
God made everyone in his own image, something tells me that includes male, female, non-binary, a gender, bigender, gender fluid, etc. and straight, gay, bi, pan, ace, gray, demi etc.
So God is making humans all different races, ethnicities, gender, and sexuality because he thinks it’s very neat.
That’s why people should love people as people, and not just a label
To be fair, MOST of christianity (and most other major religions) is pretty bigoted and reflected the super conservative and patriarchal attitudes, strict gender norms and views of the time and is and was always used (by the church, state, and other institutions and individuals in power) to impose control, dogma, convention, conformity, and ultra-tradicionalistic reactionary and even often times nationalistic and racist views and to basically accept economic and social inequalities as well. I don't think they cherry-pick the "bad bits" as there are much more bad bits than good bits, they just ignore the parts that are incovinient to them such as the mixing fabrics bit and others. The bible and other religious texts often encourage violence against women and children (and in general), violence against the unreligious and people of other religions, super strict and prudish morals and dogma, everything is a sin against god and those who sin should be punished and shamed, even though most of these sins don't actually harm anybody. And everyone on earth should follow these extreme dogmatic and conservative morals because they are supposedly the law of god who created everything and people should "serve" "him" and obey "his" every whim and strict and arbitrary rule otherwise they are bad people who should burn in hell, but instead of waiting for them to die and go to hell, no, they make their lives hell on earth, do they really believe in divine justice if they want to enact the punishment here on earth? Most of these "sins" and rules are actually normal and healthy behaviours and ideas that don't harm anyone, just people following their individuality, self-expression and freedoms who don't want to be subjugated and ruled over or live life according to antiquated beliefs. The nice and unconditionaly loving and accepting parts of religious texts and doctrines are actually the minority and are contradicted by the rest of the texts. Religion is the main factor preventing social progress all around the world. From LGBTQIA+ rights to women's and abortion rights. There is a direct correlation between the religiousness of a country, state or region and homophobic laws, lack of reproductive rights, lack of (quality) education and lack of other social (and even economic) advances. Trust me, I live in a developing country where abortion is illegal. It's hell living here, even though belief in god/organised religion is everywhere.
