Ugh I was just telling this to my wife. I was telling a much younger friend about how I saw this music video when I was 15 and it blew my mind. And then I realized I would have been watching the video 1 year before my friend was born.
The rawness and the specific tone of the melody in this video has preserved to this day. The video brings you back to the days when death metal grows like mushrooms on the rain. Nothing can bring this back anymore. They don't do stuff like this anymore and they don't record nor produce like that anymore. It was a one special time. I miss those days. Metal in general nowdays is mainstream and polished to the core. No hard feelings but old school will remain old school. The best school.
As for me,truly Amorphis was from 1994(their best album ever of all times) till 1997,after that it was completely nu metal,no truly doom metal at all,they accept a new mention of metal and play it till nowadays,it's my own opinion about Amorphis new music kind...Their album"Tales from the thousand lakes" was a best time of Amorphis like a doom metal band!!!Love it so much!!!Greetings from Russia to all Amorphis old fans!!!This album is gorgeous and one of the best themes of an all doom metal ever been in it's history!!!' p.s.nothing will be like it been before...And singer,which singed before,in this gorgeous album,much more better then singer singing now!!!Don't like new Amorphis of a nowadays at all....(((
this melody is so cliché, nothing original, copy paste from what has been done 20years earlier, like Wishbone Ash, Saga, Manfred man. But the 70ies where probably the dark ages of music for the younger audience

I think you can't (objectively) justify this being better than their new stuff... I really like Black Winter Day as a song, but this guys "growls" are really pathetic, to be honest. Tomi leaped Amorphis on another level with his unearthly brutal growls and beautiful clean vocals.

i think this have a sarabande rythm , this was used during XV XVI XVII centruys , Bach , Handel , among other composers from the baroque used this popular form to write concert pieces . for all those metal fans i strongly reccomend bach music . I respect all music .

I first heard this song on the Mexican radio station, Radio Sonora. Thursday nights they had a metal show called Alto Voltaje (High Voltage). I lived in the border town, Douglas Arizona, so reception was no problem. I loved that radio program! I was 15 then, I'm 38 now.
I'm glad I found these guys. They opened for Nightwish in LA in January along with Domin and I really liked them, I can't believe it took me this long to listen to them again.
Fans live favorite. Keyboard solo is a classic! When I was on the concert (Am Universum tour in 2002 or 2003) , everybody were screaming "Black Winter Day!". And they played it on the encore. I was f..kin excited!

I ordered the CD in Autumn of 1994 from the German Metal Store EMP, that were great times. I also ordered the first two Katatonia Albums as well as Lake of Tears their Greater Art album. 1994 was quite good in doom melodic death metal. I wish I could go back, and yeah cell phone and internet I would not need, just an Amiga 2000 to play cRPGs.
For me its 1 - Joutsen 2 - Koivusaari 3 - Koskinen Joutsen is good at growls, clean vocals AND live. I like Koivusaari's voice but Joutsen is a little bit better i think. And Koskinen was live really weak. But thats just my opinion. :D

I ordered the CD in Autumn of 1994 from the German Metal Store EMP, that were great times. I also ordered the first two Katatonia Albums as well as Lake of Tears their Greater Art album. 1994 was quite good in doom melodic death metal. I wish I could go back, and yeah cell phone and internet I would not need, just an Amiga 2000 to play cRPGs.

Joutsen is good at growls, clean vocals AND live. I like Koivusaari's voice but Joutsen is a little bit better i think. And Koskinen was live really weak. But thats just my opinion. :D
