    Nice one Cliff. I hope your wife stays safe; she and her colleagues are heroes, a term often misused in this day and age but not when it is used in connection with NHS workers. Stay safe.

    I saw a video on dressing a a wheel like that. He took a small grinding stone, made a small spindle and mounted it. He turned it by hand at the start but soon the stone wheel turned itself. The two wheels trued themselves. Thanks for sharing

    Cliff I can see the pressure washer wobbling about as you turn the cone at the end of the video. Looks like either the centre bolt thread pulled one way when you hand tapped it (quite likely), or the bottom face of the cup is out.
    I would mount the cup wheel in an external chuck and check centre hole runout first. If that is out then true it up and make another arbor centre for it. Also check if the base of the cup is parallel to the rim.
    Checking the internal base of the cup will be somewhat difficult.
    Just my two bob's worth ;)
    Good luck.
    Rob

    Hi Cliff, most wheels have to be dressed. Normally a single point diamond dresser but does depend on what the wheel is made of/for. Certain dressers types are for certain wheel types. Looking forward to the build.
    Cheers
    Kevin

      Hello Kevin, I have been after doing something like this since your video on the tool grinder, its your fault! :-) It is now hurting my brain! I don't know if you can dress these "diamond" wheels, not willing (or able at the moment) to try, might need some further investigation, might not even get that far,
      All the best, enjoy easter,
      Cliff

    Allo Cliff, I had the same problem with the facial runout. What I did was to reverse the jaws of my chuck, mount the wheel in reverse into the chuck and skim the back of the wheel. I put some hardish rubber between the jaws and the wheel to protect the wheel and didn’t clamp too hard. I proceeded with caution and it worked for me.

      Evening Tony, I have been thinking about doing that, either on the lathe or mill, the front is the important bit, so if it worked for you I'll try it,
      Thanks,
      Cliff

    • @tonyatlantis4564

      I got the face runout down to 2 tenths using the lathe and this will depend on the accuracy of your chuck.It should be pretty good with your Emco chuck.As you will be aware you don't want to rupture the bond between the diamond composite and the aluminium backing but you just go by feel.The rubber between the jaws and the wheel will help and also provide grip.I've actually had to do two of these cup wheels because the wheels as supplied were poop.

    All those Chinese cup wheels seem to be a bit eccentric - I'm planning to build myself a TCG, I'll probably true up a faceplate, put the cup on that and get the abrasive running true then face and rebore the mounting hole in the hope it'll run true...? Good video, added tothe "build my TCG playlist!

    looking at the grindingwheel mounted on the lathe made me thing : maibe you can make an adapter for the toolpost and turn the lathe itself intoo a toolgrinder , saves a bit of space in the shop though there be all sorts of grinding dust landing on the ways

    Just cooking Sunday breakfast and watching your new video. I can tell a fellow military man, repurposing one thing to do something else. There's a saying in the RAF 'If we needed a cat, we'd buy a dog and modify it'. Great video Cliff. Happy Easter. Dean in Oxfordshire.

      if us squaddies needed a cat it would probably be because we were hungry, which we usually were, I had on a few occasions had the good fortune to dine in RAF messes, Mate you were spoilt! :-)

    Cliff, some of these Chinese wheels are notorious for being inaccurate. If I remember correctly young Ca Lem had the same problem with one of his diamond wheels and he re- dressed it with a diamond single point dresser. It may well be worth having a look at his channel and seeing how he went about it. I'm pretty sure it was Ca Lem who did it but I may be wrong. Robin Renzetti may well have some ideas about this problem as well. Try sending him an email to see what he says about it. One thought it had is that before you split the arbor apart was to put a chisel line witness mark across the two parts of the arbor if you are going to make two collars, one for each wheel or Loctite them together and use the one for both wheels. Personally the second option is the way I would go. Hope your wife stays fit and healthy in her so so important job, and you too mate. Happy Easter!

    Hi cliff interesting project. Will be interesting to see how it turns out. Experimental work can be a pain can't it? Like me you seem to use what you have and re-purpose where possible.

    • @CliffsShed
      @CliffsShed  4 роки тому +1

      Absolutely Stephen, but this is definitely a project I would rather have started from the "swively" bit first and then put the grinding head to that! Might get away with it,

    can you hold the grinding wheel in the lathe and true up the shaft to the wheel.?

    • @CliffsShed
      @CliffsShed  4 роки тому

      Can't do that with this, I've made it so the wheel is screwed to the shaft thats the MT1 that goes into the headstock if the jt6 bit was fixed separate to the arbour that would be possible,
      Thanks for watching,
      all the best,

    when you get it some where near keep an eye on which you run the wheel if its turning anti clock wise it should be ok if you go the other way the stone will loosen off an possibly blow up before you can stop it

      True Ian, but I have to say before I "outgrew it" this lathe served me well, I made some mighty stuff on it, but a 2 foot diameter table top broke in half and the lathe complete, took off across the workshop! Had to throw them pants away! :-)
