    I've got Powerstop slotted & drilled rotors/Z23 brake pads on my '14 & a few days after it was installed it has a loud scrapping/sloshing noise when it's going down steep hills at over 45mph & hard breaking at over 70mph, (& yes, I did brake in the pads correctly)..It absolutely minimize break fading, in comparison to the factory smooth rotors, but since I don't run it on tracks, I will be going back to OEM since it has glazed over after 9k miles..You will find quite a bit of this slotted information on different forums..Looking forward to you next video...

    Great video as always! I'm happy to see you took it to a track to find out both its limits, and your own. Do you have room in the front for diy brake ducts?

      I think it’s possible. I’ll need to research how people have done them. We have ports but they don’t aim the air right at the brake. The manual says you can takeoff the brake dust shield for a better cooling. But you have to insulate the speed sensor

    I track 4-5 times a year. Had the same problems with stock brakes. Went to Hawk HP Plus Sport Pads - Enhanced Compound and the factory rotor up front. It works well. I have factory rear rotors in back with ECS Yellow stuff.... Stay away from Disc Italia! Wore them down to nothing at track and ended up metal on metal at end of 3 sessions. Had to limp home! I also tried different rotors, slotted & drilled, but found originals work just as good as anything else.

      Thanks! I also have believed OEM rotors aren’t that bad. I’m sure mine glazed over due to the stock pads. HPS going on up front tomorrow but not sure if I’ll use those at the track or something else next time.

    My friend had a 1M, blew out a strut on a track day. $5000 in damage. He tracks about 2-3 times a month, not worth paying for track insurance every time. It blew out right next to the one wall they had and he just clipped it.
    That said just at a dog park on day I lost a tie rod out of the blue. At 10 mph, not so bad...at speed that would have been hairy to disastrous.
    The fun part was they were having a Towing Company appreciation day at the park that day...none of those asshats wanted to just tow me 10 mins home. I waited 6 hours for a tow truck.

    Get ss brake lines. Maybe some ti shims. If you’re tracking more then look into ducts.

    Tracked mine once a month for 3 years. I solved my brake problem by switching to performance friction pads on my v sport. Night and day difference at the track. Stock pads are shit. They actually offered performance pads for a $100 on the v sport but my dealer said they didn't stock any because they squeeled a lot. I don't know, I just switched mine.

      How is your experience tracking this car? Does it need any cooling mods? Do you have link for the track pad? Thanks!

    Hi Jet fuel. I have some questions about track performance. How is the cooling for oil, trans etc? Do you see any issues after 5-6 cont. Laps? Also can you please share link to your track pads? Also are you on Tifecta tune? Thanks

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  Рік тому

      Hi, the oil temps and trans temps didn't seem to get bad. It's always good to reel back your driving after a few laps, and usually traffic will do that for you. I've done 20 min sessions with about 10 laps each at over 100F outside temps. The coolant temps did come up on the hot days and boost gets reduced. If you haven't watched my other video I'll link it below. The biggest enemy to this car is intercooler cooling. You need to make sure you have a well bled intercooler for proper performance. Even then the temps will get high and boost will get reduced. It's not a track car, it's just a car that has fun at the track. Pads I used in front are Hawk HP+. They really make a lot of dust and noise. Plus they ate up my rotors. When the pads were done, the rotors were also done.
      Hawk HP Plus (front): amzn.to/38ks0pc
      Hawk Street 5.0 (rear - they dont' make the HP+ for rear): amzn.to/2PHzPyJ

      Also, yes I was on Trifecta Tune. A more hardcore Schmidty tune will cause higher intercooler manifold temps. Schmidty can help make a more mild track focused tune too that doesn't have boost come on so early and suddenly.

      @@JetFuelOnly thanks a lot for sharing this great info! Your videos are great quality. So cooling wise car looks good. Which brake fluid you are using dot4? Regarding intercooler can you please share the link for bleed. Also how many track days/laps this pad and stock rotor combo is lasting for you? Do you think rotor going out is due to heat issue and other cars like ats v will not need rotor replacement that often? Compared to atsv per track day cost of consumable do you think vsport will be more expensive? There is 15k price gap in used market so trying to understand overall cost for 4-5 track days per year.

    • @JetFuelOnly
      @JetFuelOnly  Рік тому

      Brake fluid: Motul RBF 600 - also good to try is Endless Fluid.
      The pad is what's agressive and shaves down the rotor. Some people have said the Hawk pads tend to eat rotors. I had one track day with about 7 20 min sessions on a very hot day with those pads and rotors. Maybe an autocross or 3 and total 20k miles.
      ATS-V rotors and pads are much more expensive but better pad options available. Rotor replacement shouldn't happen but every couple years I would say. The ATS-V is the much better track car for many reasons. Dedicated trans cooler, 2 extra auxiliary intercooler radiators for better cooling, more nimble, etc.
      Costs? Hmm that's tough. Front pads will cost $280-550 depending on brand and quality, maybe a bit less cost and replacement for rears. Expect them to last 5 track days min maybe? Tires about the same depending on how hard you push them. So let's just say you plan to buy new mid grade pad set, rotors, and tires once a year. Plus a couple sets of bottles of fluid and do your own work I would say: $1000 rotors, $1000 pads, $2000 tires, $100 fluid = $4100 on consumables. VSport might save you $600. But the ATS-S will live longer on the track as it was built for it.
      Track day costs vary by location of course. Near me if you get in early at some tracks $150 per day, others $400 per day. You will burn about 1.5 tanks of gas, plus travel gas, plus possible hotel as track days start early if not near you. Don't forget track day insurance which will be ALOT with big deductible if you choose to get insurance.

      Short life on mag ride struts (pricey), wastegate rattles, sunroof creaks, exhaust leaks, tire wear. Lol.

      Jet Fuel Only that’s not too bad. How is the tranny? Any oil bypass issues? E diff? I’m guessing the timing chains are the same for the NA 3.6.

      C O an intake on this car is good for looks. If it’s worth it to you get one! But your first mod should be a trifecta tune if you haven’t already. That’s the only mod that’s been shown to make power on this car.

      My grill surround is black chrome available from GM parts. I just used black vinyl to black out the chrome. Savage Cadillac also sells a mesh grill.
