That’s the problem with the open countryside lots of dips nooks and crannies steep sections unlevelled sections I am so sorry for you Karen don’t worry about operations they are so good these days I just had an operation not on my spine but no pain no discomfort . @@ksgonewild yes the pain is definitely more manageable thank you. I think after something like this it's our brain thst holds us back because it makes you extra cautious doing things. Hi Karen, Roffe from Stockholm here. Sorry to hear that you hurt your back. I have written to you before, about your pain in your hip and my similar problems and my experiences with hip replacement. I think I know how you feel even this time, both physically and mentally because we have done the exact same thing, I slipped and landed right on my butt with a much too heavy backpack. this was in my twenties when i did my military service. I didn't have to carry gear after that, but I've had pain ever since, but no more than I could handle, but I've never been able to carry a backpack after that.( I use a cart and waist belt) Now that I'm old, it didn't work anymore, it hurt too much. so I went to the Spine Center in Stockholm. On the MRI images it was seen that L4 and L5 had been both compressed and displaced 9 mm sideways from each other. I was very worried about the operation, but doctors said there was no risk of nerve damage because the most important nerves are higher up. Since I've had the injury for so long (I'm 71 now!) the vertebrae couldn't be moved back in place, but the spine is now stabilized, so I'm no longer in pain. now I have two titanium supports holding everything in place. I very much regret not having surgery 50 years ago. It will be fine, you are young and strong and it will heal well and you will be able to carry a backpack again. (but cart is nicer:) Good luck Karen!❤ Roffe

Hiya, Just watched this video and wanted to share my experience with you. I had exactly the same thing are you suffering from now. I had lower back pain etc pain in the legs. I had cauda equina just like you. When I got an MRI I was told to attend A&E right away. I had surgery the following day, discs L4 and L%5 were removed and I was up and on my feet the following day with no pain. The recovery was a little slow, but it's fairly major surgery. These day's I still have to be careful with my back, but I can do at least 90% if not more of whatever I'd do before the op! I understand it's scary, I've been there and I know how you're feeling. But the surgery will take all of that away! Wishing you the very best.

Karen, I lost a year of my life last year with a herniated disc and femoral nerve pain. There were times when I could not imagine it ever getting better but it did. I had a steroid injection in my spine which is not a cure but I got instant relief and I think it allowed things to settle down and improve, naturally. I am now back to the occasional niggle which I can live with. I had a MRI and they show all sorts of were and tear for people of a certain age ( I’ve got a few years on you) but most of them don’t cause any functional problems. Back specialists and physios have told me to ignore the problems as much as possible and to get on with my life. There is no magic exercise cure but keeping moving certainly helps. All the best, David.

(but cart is nicer:)
Good luck Karen!❤

Hiya,
Just watched this video and wanted to share my experience with you.

I am now back to the occasional niggle which I can live with. I had a MRI and they show all sorts of were and tear for people of a certain age ( I’ve got a few years on you) but most of them don’t cause any functional problems.
