How to use The Ordinary Marine Hyaluronics
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 жов 2020
- In this video, you will learn how to use The Ordinary Marine Hyaluronics.
Targets - Hydration, Skin repair
Format - Water-Based Serum
Regimen Step - Before Oils/Creams
Conflicts - None
Time of Use - AM, and PM
The general rule of thumb for order of application is:
1. Water-based serums
2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
3. Creams & suspensions
Important:
If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing.
And a maximum of three serum formulations in a single regimen.
Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!

Hello Melissa! Your videos are always sooo usefull! I bought Hyaluronic Marine some weeks ago and I'm happy to discover I applied it in a proper way :)
Great!😊
Glad that I can help!🥰
HOI Melissa, this is one of my favorite products from The ordinary.I 've been using it every morning after cleansing then the buffet and finishing with a sunscreen. My skin is now feeling a little bit dryer, so i need to add now a mosturizer and then a sunscreen....so far so good.
Hey Manuel!
Thanks for sharing your little routine, this sounds so simple and effective!😊
Thank you so much for these charts, they are super helpful!

I purchased this product and I was quite surprised at the texture. It’s nothing like hylauronic acid in my opinion. I am considering adding it to another serum or adding it to my moisturizer for application.
Thank you! These videos are very helpful!!

Hello! New subbie here ✨✨ I randomly searched UA-cam about this serum and your video first popped and I’m inlove thank god I found you what a breathe of fresh air you are ☀️ I picked this serum up randomly as it’s under $14 here in Australia and thought why not! But couldn’t find much info expect it being a dupe for hyaluronic with the HA or AH? I can’t remember which one anyway I’ve used it a handful of times and I think it’s good but maybe don’t layer it with it hyaluronic acid ?? I dunno but the more moisture in the skin the better especially it’s winter in Australia atm
Hey! :)
You can use this serum on its own or layer it with Hyaluronic Acid. Either way is fine. Go with what feels and looks the best for you! :)
So it doesn't have to be applied on damp or wet skin like hyaluronic acid?
Love your videos! Can you mix marine hyaluronics with the niacinamide powder? 😍
No, it should only be mixed with the following products:
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
“Buffet” + Copper Peptides 1%
Matrixyl 10% + HA
Argireline Solution 10%
I use it right after shower, when still in the shower and wet Its an amazing product
Hey hi thank you for your amazing videos.
Do you suggest marine hyaluronic with EUK 135 for morning routine ? Bcoz few website says not to combine them in skin care routine.
Hey! :)
Thank you! Yes, you can use them in the same routine - that's fine! :)
If layering it with Azelaic acid which one would you apply first?
And, would you layer it with a peeling serum like the Effaclar from La Roche Posay? Again, which one would you apply first?
Thank you Melissa, i love how clear you’re in your explanations 👍🏼
Hey :)
You would layer it like this:
- Cleanser
- Marine Hyaluronics
- Effaclar Serum
- (Optional) Moisturiser
- Azelaic Acid
- SPF (AM)

Hi Melissa. Is this stuff sticky at all? I’d like to use it under moisturiser and then foundation but don’t want the sticky feeling hyaluronic acid can have from the ordinary. Have you used it under foundation? If so, how was it? Thanks!
Hello 🙂 no, this is almost like water, so you will love it 🙂
Hi Melissa! 💕
I am thinking about giving this product a try. I been on a journey trying to find products that my skin likes. I am struggling with dehydration on my cheek areas (I have always had oily skin but seems like this is changing to combination and I am really trying to find out what my skin likes best now as I also experienced a bit of eczema on my cheeks previously). Given that it is summer and it super warm now - I am using the Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel in the morning and at night I use the Cosrx rice mask, however I have recently incorporated back the Avene hydrance intense serum. So I was wondering if I could use this in the morning with the Benton gel and also add it in the night with the Avene serum and the cosrx mask? I use the cerave foaming cleanser and use the avene high protection (for dry skin) sunscreen (I have been also struggling with finding a sunscreen that would not cause irritation on my cheeks and this one seems to work but gives me more of a shine on t-zone which is fine I guess). Hope you are enjoying the summer and are well ☺️ And thank you beforehand 💗
Hey! :)
Yes, that's fine.
I also want to mention a little tip; using The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA or NIOD Hydration Vaccine are great moisturizers to rebuild and strengthen your skin barrier. This may be a great option for you. You can use either one of them with your current serums.
If your sunscreen is hydrating enough, there is no need to use a gel or moisturizer beforehand.
You can use setting powder (translucent makeup powder) to mattify your sunscreen once you have applied it.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Thank you for your tips. My husband uses the TO natural moisturizers factors + HA, I have stolen a bit tonight to see how my skin likes it - so far it feels ok. (When I was dealing with eczema a year ago, and other health issues which also affected my skin, it kinda didn’t like it much and it would sting and it was the LRP lipikar balm AP + M that helped a lot to cool it down and restore the skin barrier)
I will also check out the NIOD hydration vaccine - and probably the Embryolisse
Lait-Crème Concentré though it has scent.
I want to thank you again for taking your time to respond and also for you videos. You and your content have been very helpful 💕

Do we use Niacinamide first or Marine Hyaluronics first Melissa? By the way, youre so sweet!
Both are water-based serums so it's up to you which one should go first! I recommend going from the thinnest to the thickest texture :)
Thank you🥰
And also do we have to use cream after Marine Hyluronics? Because I heard that we should do it, do Marine Hyluronics contains moisturizing by its own?
You can use a moisturizer after it but you don't have to! See what works and feels the best on your skin :)
Hi Melissa ! Would you happen to be able to advice on using the TO Marine Hyaluronics on a dry, sensitive scalp? I’ve seen conflicting advice online. Someone says yes but wash it off after (i don’t understand why it needs to be washed off, seeing that you can leave it on on the face). I have a dry, sensitive, and itchy scalp atm and I’m looking for solutions. But I don’t wash my hair every day so washing it off after would be a challenge. Thanks in advance 🙏🏻
Hey! 😊
Hm... I mean, you can technically use it on your scalp and then leave it on. However, I'm not sure how much you would need to use. I've used The Ordinary Hair Serum on my hair/scalp (they also have a hydrating one) for some time. However, with my hair, I felt the need to wash it every day, as otherwise, my hair looked oily. Now, this might be different for you! 😊
Can I use marine hyaluronic and ascorbyl glucoside solution 12% together?
Yes, that's fine! :)
hii mam.. can i use natural moisturizing factor+HA in morning as a evening time after use hyaluronic acid2%+ B5...please suggest me mam
Yes, that's fine!😊
So I can mix this with my Matrixyl before I apply my retinol in the evening? I just got the Marine Hylauronics in the mail today I'm so excited!!!! Can I drop Matrixyl and Marine Hyalauronics into my hand together, rub my hands then apply it OR should I apply one, wait for it to absorb, then apply the other one? You're the first person I've heard say to apply in the order of concern and it made a light bulb go off in my brain lol. I believe you, but I also see so many people on youtube squirt drops of multiple serums in the palm of their hand and apply it in one go. I guess it depends on WHAT those serums are so this could be a loaded question I'm sorry lol
Hey again! :)
Yes, you can use Marine Hyaluronics, Matrixyl and Retinol in the same routine, that's fine. You can either layer them separately or mix 2-3 drops of each serum (Marine Hyaluronics and Matrixyl) in the palm of your hand and then apply it.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial thank you! I noticed the Marine Hylauonics is thinner than the Matrixyl and it worked best for me to straight drop drops of it on my face then rub it in. It works my face felt way more hydrated right after!
@@conniescrustycharredcooter2476 That's fine! :)
Since every moisturizer I've tried (oil-free, etc.) gives me breakouts, can this serve as a substitute for a moisturizer?
Yes, I feel that it works best with a Hyaluronic Acid serum or other hydration like the Marine Hyaluronics. Or Amino Acids + Marine Hyaluronics.
Hi Melissa can I use marine hyaluronic acid and vitamin C suspension 23% plus HA Spheres 2% together? Also Do I need to apply Marine hyaluronic acid on damp face???

How to use marine Hyluronics nas snail mucin together??
Also, can I use 3%salicylic acid cleansing bar, then use marine hyluronics.
Or should I use a gentle oil based cleanser?
Yes, that's absolutely fine. You can use Marine Hyaluronics before applying your Snail Essence, as Marine Hyaluronics has a thinner texture compared to the Snail Essence.
Could I mix the marine with the amino acid + b5 and the natural moisturising factors in my hand and than put them altogether at once?
Yes, they do not conflict.

Vitamic C as ascorbic acid 8% + alpha arbutin 2%
Yes, you can use marine hyaluronics with niacinamide. :)
Hi! I am wondering, do you apply oil before moisturiser? Because I thought it was moisturiser and then oil 🧐 confused 😅
Ah yes, that is because it is plant oil, which comes before mineral oils or heavier creams with silicons or other heavier substances. They have a larger molecular structure and only sit on top of the skin surface.

Hello do we use the marine hylaronic to damp skin or dry skin
You can use it on dry or on damp skin; it won't make a difference in efficacy; maybe only the feeling is different. So do what you like most 😃
Hi Melissa, I have dry skin which is getting exacerbated bcz of the dry winter season. I have recently started using The Ordinary Squalane followed by Cosrx comfort ceramide cream. The Squalane definitely adds some plumpness and elasticity to my skin. But I still feel my skin is lacking something. Do you think adding Marine Hyaluronics before Squalane and ceramide cream would help?
Hello SC,
Hmm, not sure if that will be enough. It may be best to add a Hyaluronic Acid before.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Thank you so much for the prompt response. Will look into adding hyaluronic acid. Truly appreciate!
🥰
So we don’t need to apply this on wet skin like hyaluronic acid? I use a toner, snail mucin n good molecule discoloration serum, so where does this fit? Thank u in advance
Hyaluronic Acid also does not need to be applied on wet skin . 2 scammers just made that up to get some attention, or who knows? But a lot of people copied it.
Hyaluronic Acid cannot absorb more water. So it has already done this in the formulation.
While you wash your face, the skin absorbs water, making it damp. You want to achieve that, but the remaining water drops on the surface are wet skin.
You wash your face
take a clean towel and pat it "dry" (which is damp)
now you apply your Hyaluronic Acid or Marine Hyaluronics
then an additional "seal" if needed

Do i have to do a patch test on my arm before using this product on my face? Also is it necessarry to put Sun screen on after using this product?
Well, you can do a patch test if you have never used the product before, yes. No, it is not necessary to put sunscreen on. However, I recommend using SPF25 if you are exposed to the sun to keep your skin younger for a more extended period and prevent wrinkles and discolouration as long as possible. Currently I'm light acne prone, major issues are large pores, blackheads, oily and redness(no itchy). Now I only using salicylic acid pad to clean, looking for a serum for overnight or throughout the day
Hello,
Use a retinoid
Adapalene 0,1% (example Differin gel)
And if it is unavailable in your country, use retinol with 0,2% or 0,3%. And look for a lotion-gel-like texture.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficialhi Melissa, 👋 is the ordinary retinol good to use? Because I see people have heavy irritations over months with it
@@nverend4450 The Ordinary Retinol is just as good as the others, BUT the formulation is a bit oily as it is in Squalane; therefore, I like it less.
But you will get the same results as with other retinol (considering the strength of the serum, of course). People experience irritation because they buy the most potent 1% available and not adjusting the skin to it or use a strength that is too potent for their skin to tolerate. If you use 0,2 or 0,5, you will have a good experience except for the feeling (if you do not like it).
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial very clear explanation!! 😍 Thanks a lot Melissa, I think I'll try on ordinary 0.2 or 0.5 retinol first to let my skin to adapt it, afterwards I swap to 1% from other brands
@@nverend4450 No, you do not need such a high strength of retinol. 0,2 and 0,5% will only do the same job if your skin converts it well. (Retinol needs to be transformed by the skin so that it can use it, and sometimes it does not do it well) But if that is the case, or you can get Adapalene or another retinoid, you will be much better off with that one (if available).
And be careful 1% is not 1% Pure retinol; some brands use dubious numbers or marketing so that you end up with very little retinol! If you are unsure, you can ask me, and I can look or Google it to see how much pure retinol the product contains!
Dose it have colour like slight yellow ?
hmm, no it should be clear/transparent!
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial ok thanks for replying
I have been mixing it with niacinamide for a while now, because I was unsure if applying Marine Hyaluronics first would reduce the penetration of the Niacinamide. Is that a good idea, or rather not...? 💝
Yes, I also ask myself that question a lot now; therefore, I like to tell people to only use one or two serums in a routine because otherwise, it may just sit on top. Now depending on the treatment, it may not be an issue. So let's say you use hydration only; you may like to have a few layers so that it looks hydrated during the entire day. Also, it depends on the texture and what ingredients are used in the formulation, and since Marine Hyaluronic is almost like water, it may not be an issue.

@@conniescrustycharredcooter2476 Depending on how you see it. Increased hydration can also mean that the product penetrates better into the skin, so irritation can be more. @@MelissaVanDijkOfficial i use it am and pm
At my jaw and at the top of cheeks is itchy
Im oily acne prone skin
I noticed it 2 days ago but when i first use it at the first 2 days it’s not itchy
Are you using six dots of the moisturizer? This may be way too much. Sometimes the Niacianmide can give you the itchy feeling have you tried it without the Niacinamide?
Also, do you use a sunscreen? If not, I highly recommend adding one when you are exposed to the sun.
Here is what The Ordinary recommends:
About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck.
Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing."
Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!
Here is a video on how to apply the moisturizer:

2 dots each cheeks and 1 at forehead 1 at the lower of lips
I’ve tried not using the moisturizer i don’t remember clearly but i think it didn’t itch
@@siopaopao1299 That is way too much product. I recommend reducing it. But try to see what product is causing it.
After applying serum your skin has become red immediately why??? Is this serum is bad for sensitive damage dry skin??
Does the redness stay or does it go away after some time?
You may want to look into Amino Acids instead or combine it.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial It has gone after some time
Check my another comment reply please
Mix this serum with your moisturizer. Use 2-3 drops and mix with about a bean-size amount of moisturizer.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial okk thnq so much how many times a day we have to use?? And as you have told that use serum on damp skin then when I am using moisturizer + serum my skin will be damp or dry?
My age is 21
Are you Flemish?
