The funniest reaction I’ve gotten in a while was like a week ago, a little girl saw us and started yelling to her mom about how “there’s a DOG!! Someones walking a dog in the grocery store! Someone’s walking a DOG in the GROCERY STORE!!” And the mom just went “yep, the dog’s helping.” 😂 I get a lot of the “*gasp* it’s a service dog! Look at the service dog!” too, we walked by a family that was hardcore staring at us today at the grocery store, and as we passed I heard “ohh it’s a service dog!” I think they were just trying to figure out what he was doing in the store and didn’t see his vest until we passed lol. Then a nice older couple saw my dog and got all excited and stopped to look at him for a minute, and said something like “oh it’s a dog! Oh, it’s a WORKING dog” and “yep, it’s a working dog, he’s got a job to do” 😂 It was a bit distracting but they were funny & sweet and moved on without talking to him lol so it was more cute than annoying. People’s reactions are definitely usually annoying, but pretty funny sometimes 😂
I also get "What breed is she?" "Ooh! Pretty dog!" and occasionally, "Who are you training her for?" or "Wow! She's doing so well, especially because her vest says Service Dog in Training on it"
😂 yeah I get The Who are u training her for a lot. I also get weird looks when I say she’s for me. I don’t mind the complements but sometimes it gets old and annoying
The whole "that person pet it why can't i?" happened to me a lot in school (i ended up being pulled out because of harassment) and the male student who asked tried to pet her anyway after i said no to which I practically screamed at him and moved my service dog away, then when he saw my friends petting her at lunch (her break time) he came and sat by our table the entire lunch and started yelling at me, the only reason he got caught is that he decided to bug us more so i could get the vice principal.
I hate it when people say "can I pet your dog?" as they run up to your dog and start petting it before you can answer. I've had so many people walk by my dog and pet him on the head in public and so my dog excepts it, and I am having to retrain him to not sniff people as they walk by.
I normally get 'Look at its shoes!' 'Puppy!' 'I have a a Jack Russell too' 'Does it bite?' 'Jack Russell's can't be service dog's' 'hey puppy!' And loads more! Most are kind but some annoy me!
I had a lady come up to me not long ago and went up to my SD and said: "Well aren't you as cute as a button!" I told her not to distract a SD and then I left
Yes! I had someone come up and start petting and talking to Dallas. When i said don’t do that they were like “oh well that’s weird. I let people pet my service dog. But they made us leave bc I was letting him play fetch.” (It was outside no pet friendly fair.) I was like 🤦🏼♀️bruh if u have a real service dog you would know not to do that
I've had a lady argue with me that cats can be service animals and she wants to make her cat one but he's afraid of dogs and than her tell me I'm wrong and her friend has a service cat. 🥴 Ok, lady. My sd and I are just going to exit stage left. I was polite and told her the ADA law but she didn't like being told no I guess.
Some people are just weird. They are so determined that they want what they want, that u have have the present tell them the law on service dogs but bc they say it in writing on a fake website they will say the president is wrong
I also get all the cute the dog is wearing socks they even stopped me on the street to stop the car and like ask me about my service dog or tell me if I’m on my scooter in my wheelchair who’s pulling who. Boy can I relate but I tend to lose my temper that doesn’t help either
🖐🏻=👨🦼 It would be like someone coming up to me and asking if they can pet my wheelchair? Would someone without a disability want anyone else to go up and pet them? I don't think so?

Yeah, I think the annoying ones is when they try to distract the dog or talk to you forever. But a lot of them are sweet and funny

Yess Dallas would do that as well. She expects it so she would lean into them
As a future handler, this gives me some ideas of how to handle some of these situations should they arise. Thank you for posting this.
