It's a unique tour of the excavation, recent discoveries, and a look at ongoing conservation work that takes place on site. This is a special access look at the work in Pompeii in 2024 that underlines the site's commitment to preservation and thorough documentation of a limited excavation, which will eventually be opened to the public.
Darius thanks site director Gabriele Zutriegel and @PompeiiSites staff for the invitation and the exceptional visit on January 16, 2024.

I've been there in November 2022 and I don't know how to explain that amazing feeling... It felt like HOME... So peaceful, and still so alive... every stone on those streets, every brush on those walls, every blink to that mountain is telling a story. It's worth the effort not just once in a lifetime. Hopefully, I will be back one day.

Imagine the first rumbles of the volcano, the workers and artists pausing and then resuming work. I can hear the foreman belting out orders. Thank you for bringing these people to life, amazing indeed!

I've been fascinated by Pompeii since I was a kid, and I finally went there in 2019 and I was blown away by the size of the place, and the detail. I must have wandered around aimlessly exploring for about 8 hours, and I think I'm pretty sure I was one of the last people to leave that day!
I would have went back the next day too but I was on a tight schedule and had to make my way to Rome, which was fine, but a bit boring compared to Pompeii!
But it's crazy seeing the parts like this that are just now being excavated, it must be so exciting uncovering something that's been covered for 2,000 years, you'd never know what you might find!
I think I might go back this year again..

I always believe that everything or every event in this life has a purpose. With that enormous disaster and thousands of people killed under the rubble, imagine if the Mount Vesuvius eruption in Pompeii hadn't occurred; we wouldn't have this amount of preserved material and insight into the lifestyle of that era. That's truly documenting a period of human history. It's a time capsule, a box of time machine, taking each coming generation to the summer of A.D. 79. Thank you for the videos Darius

It has been my lifelong dream to visit Pompeii and Herculaneum (literally since I was 5 and learned about it on the History Channel 23 years ago!) A Pompeii and Herculaneum exhibit was actually mine and my husband’s first date. He proposed to me with a vintage music box that had a metal carving of Italy with Vesuvius in the background. To keep the theme going I got his wedding ring custom made to contain lava stones from Vesuvius that the girl went on a trip to get for me (and sent pictures!) just so I could surprise him with a little piece of Pompeii. I hope we can visit it someday and bring our love story with Pompeii full circle! Thank you so much for sharing your videos and knowledge with us.

Its so interesting to see the fresco's. You can imagine 2000 years ago probably an interior decorating business would have been employed to decorate the villa. The casual style suggests it would be the ancient equivalent of wall paper that is more utalitarian than high art, reflecting the fashions of the time and personal taste and interests of the owner. Pompeii is a real window into Roman civic society and unique..

Thank you man! Content of your channel is really unique - it has enough of explanation, but almost no "water". Sometimes you show the places that I always wanted to see, but never had a chance to get there in right time and there are almost zero good videos about the places.
In our times, then lot of peoples tries to sell everything, even stuff that they have no idea about - the channel shows that there are still great people on UA-cam that provide really interesting and exclusive content.

I appreciate that! I’m happy to share my experiences- as u can see here it’s often in rushed circumstances- like a press conference - so it’s not easy - especially when on my own, but I try!

Thanks for doing this video! I did my Master's thesis on Pompeii back in 2009. I am so happy they have new excavations happening and can't wait to get a look inside. I visited last September and saw Leda and the swan and a Priapus painting. I'd love to see the rooms you visited in this video - those snakes and wall paintings are AMAZING! R

It looks like the bakery oven has been previously restored . Prior to the eruption. The brick changes to a different type of coursing . Above the oven. Magnificent

Your viewers would get to see more of Pompeii if you'd step out the shot more often. B-roll is your friend.

My son and his wife went to see Pompeii on one of their trips to Italy. His dad’s family are from Italy and Tunisia.

It's truly fascinating how everything seems so almost recent yet is 2000 years old but still is relatable to today- right down to a pile of building materials and clutter but no sign of the builders.
