I frequently tell people that Herculaneum is a must visit - less crowded and in many ways better preserved. Two added bonuses - 1. It is rarely as crowded as Pompeii and 2. One of the best burgers I ever had is almost right across the street (VIP Burger). Thank you so much for this video Darius et. al. You always produce fantastic videos that dig deeper into topics not often covered.
The whole Bay of Naples is a fascinating archeological area. Cumae, Miseno and the wonderful cistern of the Roman fleet and, of course, the cities of Vesuvius. Fabulous videos Darius, keep it up.
I really enjoyed this😁. It amazes me how much is still buried, yet to be discovered under the modern town of Ercolano! I have been lucky enough to visit Ercolano on two visits. I will definitely try to go here on my next one.
Many years ago I was stationed at the NATO HQ in Bagnoli, a Napoli suburb. Prowled around Herculaneum and the plethora of Roman ruins many times. Nice to view the many many "updates" available on youtube.
I was in Naples for an archaeological conference in 2015. I took an afternoon and visited Herculaneum. I like it better than Pompeii. I did not know about this theatre. I will have to visit again! Great video as always.
Gives you the sense that the lion's share of Herculaneum has yet to be excavated. Unfortunately, so many apartment buildings surround the sight, making it impossible, at least for now, to have access to the yet to be excavated portions.
Was last there in May. The inclines of the side streets on the way to and from the train station felt like you were walking over actual structures! It was a weird feeling! lol @@DariusArya
I was watching a video recently about how to pyroplastic flow had turned the brains of a few of the only bodies found at Herculaneum into pieces of glass because of the rapid heat a quick cooling of the brain tissue, thats just incredible
Bravo! Absolutely incredible video, the inscriptions were my favorite. Made a great morning for me to start my day at 6:51 AM before I get my work and tasks started for a long day. Makes me feel "stoic" in what otherwise been a kinda rough morning of bits of depression. Hail Hercules! hahaha. So cool. I did not know of this theater site when I visited in 2020.
That is amazing! This makes me think about the villa of the papyri, which is perhaps even more special. But as far as I know there are almost no video’s of the tunnels of the villa of the papyri and only a few photos (I do know your video of the excavated part). Do you think anyone will ever get the option to make more images (a documentary for example)? You would be very suitable for that! Any idea why no one has had that option yet?
If it was buried and discovered after Centuries, that means that the marble should still have been lining the walls. Ancient foragers must have found it first and stripped the marble.
O yes, Herculaneum is my preference to Pompeii. Many buildings stand to two stories, the corner fountains were working - much more evocative than Pompeii.
You do know that roman statues were almost never signed or a name put on them, so the plaque might give a name but the actual statue could be recycled form anyone.
He can talk any way he likes as far as I’m concerned, because he takes us to fascinating places, he’s always informative, and he keeps really current with all the most recent excavations. What’s really great is that if you ask a legitimate question, he almost always answers!

Thanks a lot. Yes, I agree- a great site!
Thanks for the tip about the burgers, I'm going to Herculaneum in a few months and will check out your recommendation!
Great pizza place on the left walking up the hill to the train station
@@spindriftbeach6082 Fantastic, thanks very much
Totally agree. Much more to see and do. Much more complete history and artefacts.
I much prefer it when you present in this calmer, quieter fashion. It’s much more engaging. Thank you.
Those bronzes are amazing and in perfect shape
Fantastic video! Pompei and Herculaneum are on my bucket list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good choice!

Thank you. Yes, the whole area is fascinating- check out my older Baiae video.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for making us travel without leaving our homes!
Any time!

Absolut the best archeology channel, good on you Darius.
Ancient bronze statuary is very impressive.
and worth a trip to Napoli!
Excellent tour. Thanks, Darius!
My pleasure!
A very interesting view, thank you !
My pleasure! More Herculaneum in the future
Great presentation!
This was incredible. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure-

Yes, most remains buried!

Thanks Darius! Yes, this site is now on my wishlist for future visiting!
Can you please add the link for the website to buy tickets. Thanks.
it's in the written text

Fantastic tour! 👍
Many thanks! Not any easy place to get a sense of the monument -but def.you get a sense of the difficulties involved in the earliest excavations.
Very interesting, good video.
Thank you!

Thank you, that was amazing. On a more personal note you give wonderful tours, and I want you to know that is greatly appreciated.
Wow, thank you!
Would love to visit there
Awesome video as always. I actually met you this day, I said hi as I was part of a tour group. Keep up your amazing work.
Thanks for saying hi!
Amazing. Darius, are there any plans to continue the excavation and uncover more of the theater?
No- it’s a time capsule as is- and historic building on top. Goal is to make it regularly open to the public.
@@DariusArya Thank you
Wow! Truly remarkable.
yes, an exciting visit!
Thank you Darius for this amazing tour back in the time of Roman Empire! 🙏❤
My pleasure!!
Absolutely amazing. So much history is still buried.
stunning fact!
Thank you for this premium presentation. You stated several times that it was once lined with marble. Where did the marble go? Thank you,
Stripped by the early investigators tunneling through the site.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME 👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for your interesting video
Thanks for visiting
Thanks for the new to me info..

Check out my Villa dei Papiri video - you’ll see the site and some tunnels
OMG this is super cool !!
Cool. I have been to Herculaneum but had no clue about this. :)
Glad I could help!
Back underground, yeah!
you got it!
Absolutely amazing, thank you for taking us there ❤❤❤❤
Wowww

porque não exacam o teatro inteiro????
I want to go there!
What about the Raydon? Isn't that very dangerous?
Yes but after long exposure
Oh, okay... Thanks for the info. :) @@DariusArya

Both are great, but I agree- Herculaneum is really special (and so much more difficult to unearth)
How many times is the word Herculaneum ! Said in this video ??
Those two little aluminum sticks holding back a wall of rock makes me feel really nervous. 👀
I'd be great to have the whole place excavated .
Slowly but surely.
Radon gas. They should clear out the surface housing and dig out the pyroclastic flow with heavy equipment.
You do know that roman statues were almost never signed or a name put on them, so the plaque might give a name but the actual statue could be recycled form anyone.
Very interesting subject but don't like the way the presenter talks as if we're all kids in primary school
Yes, quite so.

Excuse me you spelt Theatre wrong !
click bait... expectation of title versus reality of video...disappointing at best!
I’ve been there and I’m sorry to say that the price of admission relative to what one is permitted to view is a total rip off!
Might be a great video but where did you learn to talk like that?
Made it unwatchable.
Yeah, yeah, another fake "Hamas tunnel" video. Give it a rest.
