Welcome to another episode of Challenger Approaching! In this series, we cover characters who might be invited to a future entry of Super Smash Bros, then go into deep into detail on how they could be designed if they joined the roster for real!
Our Challenger this time is another presumed frontrunner for the next Smash title, and for good reason. One of the marquee characters of Pokémon's 9th generation, Meowscarada has mesmerized crowds in the real world just as easily as the species does in-universe. Combine the Smash fans still wishing a fully evolved Grass starter would make the roster with the fanbase of this particular Grass type, and you have a Smash hopeful as popular as they are likely to make it in...if timing works out, that is.
But how could Meowscarada's elemental powers and magician motifs come together to stand out within Smash's roster? Let's see how we can tap into the line's canon abilities and lore with a design that stands out above the rest!

Victory Screen Ideas:
1. Meowscarada faces towards the camera, dramatically lifting a hand up before taking a deep bow, thanking the audience for their applause. As it rises back up, it is interrupted by the flower going off in Meowscarada's face. A moment of 'mechanical failure' which leaves the Pokemon with a slightly stunned expression, still slightly bent forward.
2. Meowscarada performs a series of tricks with its flower, making it disappear and reappear at multiple points before finally holding it up to the camera, its showman smile beaming.
3. The camera sees an empty space, no fighter in sight. It then tilts down to see Meowscarada's flower lying on the ground. It spontaneously goes off, releasing a large cloud of pollen which overtakes the camera. Once it clears, Meowscarada appears with its face right in front of the camera, which pulls back in surprise. Its expression turns smug at pulling one over on the viewer.
Meowscarada is sort of like a foil to Incineroar in a sense. While Incinerorar, shows off and entertains it's audience using it's raw strength, Meowscarada shows off and entertains it's audience using it's wit.
Flower Trick being a character-specific item works incredibly well, very neat moveset

*Angry Meowscarada noises*
One detail I think would be neat is if the up tilt and up air both had Meowscarada gesture up in a "Behold!" motion while the flower swings. A keen eye would realise it's a misdirect, and Meowscarada's other hand is the one pulling the flower's string. Just those little stage tricks would really liven up the playstyle.
Meowscarda has been one of my requested Fighters for Smash
I mean sure Sceptile is still up there, but Meowscarda could be a grand surprise
My dream pokemon getting into Smash is Decidueye(my favorite mon) but I don’t think they have a shot anymore sadly.
Meowscarada really won me over during my SV playthrough, I would be pretty happy with them getting in and the potential for an awesome unique moveset is endless.
The trickery and attentiveness of Meowscarada was amazing to see through this theoretical moveset! Amazing work!
While I love Meowscarada and its def my pick if they do a Gen 9 starter
I kinda always thought Tinkaton would be a unique new archetype in Smash (May/Mika, cute small things have giant weapons)

Best case scenario is getting both. Though I'm expecting Tinkaton to be pokeball pokemon
I honestly think Tinkaton will be a Pokeball Summon imo~ as Popular as Tinkaton is, i don't think it can maintain it like Your Lucario's, Greninja's or Even Meowscarada~
I guess their chances ultimately depend on if Gen 10 is held off until 2026 to correlate with the 30th anniversary of Pokémon. But if the next Smash also comes out in 2026, that’ll create an awkward situation regarding planning.

Meowscarada is my pick in SV and i like these moves. A chance of an implementation in Smash 6 is pretty low but it would be cool.

This might be one of my favorite moveset concepts of yours yet. Trick would be absolutely amazing to use.
I still cannot believe how much GameFreak is pushing Meowscarada as a frontrunner for the starter trio. With the lead up to SV, you would've thought Fuecoco's evolution would be the runaway success.
I actually enjoyed this idea for Meowscarada so much.
For Tera Finale each of the colour palettes could have a different Tera Type (just using the animation of Grass Tera just coloured differently), for example the blue one could be Water or Dragon, pink would be Fairy, orange could be Fire, Sprig colours could use Dark, the grey could be Steel, muted could be Normal, Chien-Pao colours of course be Ice (since after a certain gym you can change the Tera Type of your pokemon and Tera Raids has pokemon which unusual Tera Types)
This moveset is spicy asf, I hope Kamek gets his own episode someday

Idk what I did to deserve my two favorite starters ever (Delphox and Meowscarada.) to get what-if? Movesets but I’m sure as heck not complaining. 10/10 video.
Meowscarda is hugely popular for a newcomer to pokemon. I'd say its got a good shot.
I like this take on Meowscarada, and while we’re on the topic of half zoners; I think Canky Kong could be an interesting take on half zoners as well; mixing trapping in like meowscarada, but taking even further with having move synergy that allows Cranky to catch you off guard.
18:40 As another special trick I could see being added in by combining neutral b and down b, holding onto the flower trick bomb before using trick, will give them both flower bombs which both explode dealing the double the hurt as a result, which they set off with a snap of their fingers, which is its end lag if it connected:
Great concept! In a similar vein to this concept, could you a lesser known feline - the Slugcat from Rain World? It's a not as well-known as most big games, but it's really good, and would make for a unique moveset.
Please do Tinkaton at some point, I think it really has a chance among the gen 9 Pokemon.
I really like how, when referring to a group of characters in the game, you simply use footage of all the notable examples fighting while you keep talking

I thought for the Trick move would have Meowscarada swap with the opponent with Meowscarada on the stage and its opponent appear off stage.
Might be my favorite Pokémon moveset you've done! I'm not even particularly a fan of Meowscarada, but this would be a really fresh addition to Smash with tons of personality. Come to think of it, that was basically my reaction to Incineroar, and I play him a ton.

I would love an alternate costume that has Meowscarada take on the colors of the Dark Magician from Yu-gi-oh! The Pokémon is a dark-type magician. It’s a perfect way to reference one of Pokémon’s major rivals on the card table in Smash. I even nicknamed my Meowscarada in Violet version Mahaad after the Egyptian mage who became the Dark Magician in the Yu-gi-oh! anime.
i would have actually expected for flower trick to be a placeable bomb that then you then can activate, like a weaker hovering C4 from Snake
but also you could just make magical leaf like MvC Vergils swords that hover above him and home onto the target when pressing an attack when in range, this leaves meowscarada open for punishes for whiffing but gives a move more damage when in range and decreases the risk a bit when they are in range
Meowscarada and Cinderace are the only 2 starters that aren’t already in smash I wouldn’t mind getting in smash as fighters
Though they aren’t my preferred Pokémon picks, they’re great, sure (Cinderace is my fourth pick for a Pokémon fighter with Meowscarada as my third), but I want others more. Personally I would want Marshadow to be a fighter, but I think Zangoose of all pokemon could have a very fun and unique playstyle

Great ideas, I love it!
If you're concerned about "Flower Trick" and "Trick" being confusing, you could easily swap Trick for Switcheroo: it functions identically, the name still makes sense, and Smash isn't always 100% accurate when it comes to Pokemon movesets as long as it fits the Pokemon's theme (see: Skull Bash and Alolan Whip).
I just can't figure out what echo fighter you're thinking of at the end... Floragato maybe, but if feels like it'd be something else?
I definitely like the idea of Trick and the cool setup of Flower Trick bomb chaining but like you said, a command grab that works regardless as long as you're opponents close might need a bit more work shopping. Nevertheless another great Pokemon moveset idea. Even though I am a bit fatigued on the Pokemon roster mostly consisting of starters, I have to admit that the magician cat is pretty fun.
Everyone else: the third alt uses a common complementary color scheme, not a big deal.

I really like Meowscarada (it'd probably be my favorite starter, maybe Pokemon overall if I'd played S/V), and it has a lot of cool potential for theming in its moveset (much like Incineroar going all-in on its wrestling shtick). My only concern is that I'd prefer to have more variety in type representation instead of having a second Grass-type and THIRD Dark-type. We haven't gotten a playable Bug, Rock, Ground, Ice, Ghost, or Dragon-type in Smash yet, and I think all of them have some good potential with the right Pokemon.

Definitely knocked it out of the park with this one, Del.I find your Pokémon movesets tend to be some of your best, and Meowscarada is no different. Gen 9 really has so many interesting Pokémon that could work in Smash as well.

SSBU was being developed while gen 7 was in full force, but gen 8 came around release time of smash ultimate and we don’t see cinderace in smash.
Meowscarada is a safe bet imo, though it would be funny if they choose a random mon like Maushold, Tatsugiri, or Brambleghast
Another great move set!! I would love to see how you would adapt a traditional fighting game character to smash, maybe Luke from Street Fighter to match the release of SF6

I just realized that if we get Meowscrada, we'll have out "dark trio" of fully evolved starters which would include Meowscrada, Greninja, and Incineroar
This would make Dark the most represented type in Smash, right? At least going by fighters and no pokeballs
Here's my ideas for Meowscarada's moveset
Neutral Special - Flower Trick: Meowscarada's signature move. Meowscarada fires an orb of energy straight forward, then the orb will explode on impact or after the half the range on the Battlefield stage and the explosion has a flower esthetic
Side Special - Magical Leaf: Similar to Ivysaur's Razor Leaf but has homing properties
Up Special - Leaf Storm: Meowscarada fires a tornado of leaves downward to deal damage and to propel itself upwards similar to Hero's recovery
Down Special - Giga Drain: Meowscarada grabs any opponent draining their health to heal itself similar to Robin's Nosferatu
Final Smash - Grass Tera Blast: Meowscarada terastalizes into a Grass Tera Type then goes to the top center of the stage and fires the Grass Tera Blast to at full power similar to Lucario's Final Smash
Alternative costumes:
1. Default
2. Red (Based on Skeledirge)
3. Blue (Based on Quaquaval)
4. Shiny Meowscarada
5. White (Based on Meowth and Persian)
6. Pink (Based on Skitty)
7. Gray (Based on Glameow and Purugly)

This is really cool The only issue I have is I think Nemona should be in Smash with it. Give her that Pikachu clone, and a Lycanroc and you got a very unique fighter. Plus another Pokemon Trainer. Which Smash really needs.
The only other options for characters I'd say are Cynthia, Misty, May or Akari. Unless you go the Dawn echo fighter route.
Unfortunately swap characters are incredibly annoying and time consuming ti develop so it’s unlikely we would get another one like PT

Have you ever considered commissioning someone to actualize one of your movesets? There are already characters being made in Ultimate, such as Goku and Waluigi proving it can be done
What do you see as being the stage for a gen 9 mon? The most visually striking place would have to be the time machine room but it wouldn't be thematic to the vast majority of mon (it would really only suit the paradox dragons). Maybe the arena where you fight Nemona at the end of the Victory Road arc, and you could have guest mons and human NPCs in the background similar to the Animal Crossing Smashville stage.
I know one person alone won’t really make a difference. But I’d really be down for one of these for Neptune from the neptunia series and/or pecorine from princess connect
I most of wall want Rillaboom from the Galar Region to be the fully-evolved grass-type pokémon we need, but I also see Meowscarada as a potential fighter or pokéball pokémon
I remember back when I was rooting for Rillaboom to join smash ultimate dlc just like pyra mythra and byleth but unfortunately he didn’t made in fighter pass vol 2 and also there fighter pass vol 3 didn’t get made.
I really hope that Meowscarada from Gen 9 or possibly fully evolved grass type starter Pokémon from Gen 10 will join the next smash bros game so that we can finally get a fully evolved grass type starter Pokémon as a fighter in smash. Sakurai said that Decidueye was going to be pick for Gen 7 rep but he decided to pick Incinaroar due to him being unique and being a heel wrestler, I remember back when I rooting Rillaboom to join smash ultimate dlc but sadly he didn’t join fighter pass vol 2 and fighter pass vol 3 didn’t get made.

The problem with Meowscarada is its typing: we already have a Grass-type (Ivysaur) and two Dark-types (Greninja and Incineroar).
But we don’t have a fully evolved grass type starter Pokémon and still bothers me to this day.

This is assuming Ivysaur and Incineroar even stick around the next game. Pokémon Trainer could get cut again depending on how small they would want to make the next roster. The same goes for Incineroar.

6:28 Though they are the same height, I’m still baffled that Meowscarada is faster than Greninja by ONE POINT. I love both Greninja and Meowscarada but I still find it strange that a Magician is faster than a Shinobi.

Great choice. However despite I love cats, smash getting Meowscarada and Incineroar seems a bit too much. If Inci says goodbye, id support Meowcarada 100%. Otherwise, I'd prefer the ghost crocodile.

I do want a grass type starter in Smash, but going from one dark type cat to another, not that exciting. I'd rather either go back one gen to Rillaboom or have Ceruledge rep gen 9

If(or when) this happens, i will be an instant main, as Meowscarada was my first ever starter pokemon . Not to say that the moveset is bad though! Quite the opposite really.

THIS. Animals do not follow human gender norms! Remember when Gardevoir was presented as this cool andro alien angel thing and then the fans just turned it into "anime girl?" Thankfully we have Iron Valiant now but I hope the same thing doesn't happen to Meow. Meowscarada is peak gender, which is perfect for a magician. Neither man nor woman, just raw FABULOUS. (Also people always forget that they have cat legs and not weird human legs, does well at making them looks beast-like.)

Most pokemon in smash don't have a shiny variant. Some have designs loosely based on their shinies, like Greninja, but details are usually off.

I like meowscarada, but I can't stop thinking of how much better a puss in boots inspired pokemon would be for the spain inspired region. Also I'd rather have had a cool dark type as opposed to a elegant dark type.
