That doesn’t matter, I think Dune is getting away with those categories, maybe the musicals (Emilia or Wicked) could win that too due to the fact that the sound of a musical must be perfect.
Alien: Romulus I'm convinced is getting a VFX nom. The climax involves a planet's rings and apparently VFX artists say it must have been a RENDERING NIGHTMARE, given the scope of the scene, the numerous shiny particles, and the longevity of the shots. It might be the one of the most ambitious VFX scenes of the year.
The complete disrespect for Furiosa isn’t sitting well with me. The Substance being shutout of most lists here sucks except makeup/hair. It definitely should have been in Sound at least. I wish The Brutalist had made sound but I’m more happy with score. Honestly all the Sound choices are pretty ordinary this year.
The Indian selection committee are a disgrace for not selecting All We Imagine As Light. For the first time maybe ever, arguably the most critically acclaimed film of the year is Indian. Yet, their excuse for not selecting it is their claim that the film looks too European in its sensibilities. All great filmmakers have international influences. Cinema is a global melting pot.
The fact that they didn't even consider All we imagine as lights as one of the top film for consideration in submitting is crazy. At this rate India would never win an Oscar if the Indian selection committee continues this stupid decisions by sending irrelevant movies. They obviously don't know how this nomination process works
Wicked is definitely getting nominated at this rate. Wild Robot showed up a lot as well. The academy seems to love that movie. That could be a best picture nod as well

The Remarkable Life of Ibelin is one of my favorite films of 2024 period and I've never played Warcraft, it's that good so I'd be happy if it got nominated 😊
Honestly, I'm betting WB has done zero campaigning for Furiosa. Given that half its budget was covered by the Australian tax refunds, I'll bet it quietly made them a profit early in the VOD/DVD/BluRay run (unlike Joker 2, which has a sea of red ink it'll never drain), but Zaslov's brand of budget cuts probably included not giving it any kind of awards push. Probably a bit of passive-aggressive retribution, too, for Miller (rightfully) suing them for trying to rip off his profit sharing from Fury Road. It's a shame, too - Furiosa is fantastic.
