Appalachian trailer right in PA sells a 12' 12k brand spanking new dump trailer for $8100. Yes it's not the same brand but what makes the PJ $3,000 more? The name?
That's a great question. I am sure the name carries a lot of unnecessary cost. I am familiar with Appalachian trailers they seem to get the job done just fine. You would really have to lay under them side by side and see who built a better trailer. I have no brand loyalty to PJ. I guess the best thing I could say about them was their parts availability was really nice when I could buy a replacement fender and all the weld brackets. Thanks for the comment!
I’ve never looked at an Appalachian but I can tell you if you ever compare 3 trailer brands close up like big Tex, PJ, and Moritz there is a huge difference in the way they build their trailers. Big Tex likes to use thin metal and cheap parts, PJ uses thicker metal and average parts, Moritz over builds the hell out of every aspect of their trailers and makes things convenient as hell. Moritz uses flex ride axles where as others use leaf springs, the battery compartment has two stories so you can use. It as a tool box as well. Just all sorts of stuff like that is why some trailers cost more than others.
Yes it was okay, just dented in the corner. Good point though. It is important its square so the box lowers correctly back onto the frame after dumping each time.
I ended up keeping it and use it more than I thought! Hauling the skid steer, hauling stone, hauling scrap, etc. A lot more handy to have than I thought.
PA tags, right? I subbed for that! ...I'm a contractor in philly, those dump trailers are VERY desirable...They can get expensive. 10K for a newer one is not unusual.
We purchased a used 2018 14k 7x14 PJ dump trailer for $10k earlier this summer. Seems like a reasonable price for a 10k trailer. Especially considering it is basically brand new still!
I appreciate watching someone that wasn't a hack job. It seems like every other guy that does this for views just half-butts it. LOL This was a great video. The breakdown at the end was very informative. Almost no one does that. It was neat to see the breakdown of the project cost and a real analysis of your labor rates. Did you HAVE to get the rim from them? Was there no place cheaper to order that rim from?
I appreciate that! When I shopped around for the wheel it was actually the same price to get it from PJ because I was already on the hook for shipping the oversize fender. If I was just buying the wheel alone, yes there would of been better options
Great question. Maybe PJ could have. I already registered it and did the reconstructed title so its kind of late now, but 14K would of been awesome. Less trips to the quarry that's for sure.
How are you liking your Skat Trak Skidsteer? I have had one for 12 years now here at the Farm. Havent done much too it through the years. Wheel Bearing and foot Control Cables..Nice dump.. I also buy and fix trailers also
I love that thing. Super simple and reliable. Half the time I’m using it as an off road fork lift and the other half is moving stone and dirt. I have a couple videos on it. Is yours a 1300 too?
@SpankRanch Garage Mine is a 1500D I believe. I can not do without it. I have extra long forks off an old fork lift. I use the all time. I just bought a really nice used Hull 14' Gooseneck Dump Trailer. I can now load my skis steer and take to the creek down the road and load and haul some Gravel. I have a good Mech. Book for it. If you ever need to know something. I could take pics of pages and send ya.
Ive never understood copart. You pay an annual fee to even bid on anything. Then they attack you with more fees after you win. Knowing they are making money off the sale as well as you.
I agree, they are expensive as hell. You really need to keep all the fees in mind when bidding. I made a table in excel with all my out the door costs. I pick an out the door cost then work it back to see what I can actually bid on something to make it worth it.
I purchased my 14K 14’ gooseneck dump trailer from Texas Pride Trailers in 2020 for $6,950.00 I can’t believe how much the inflation has hit everywhere. Elections have consequences.
I bought a 2014 in 2018 for $6800, new one in Alberta Canada now starts at $11k I’ve seen optioned out for over $20k my trailer if I through it on Facebook would fetch $8k same day it’s mental.

Sorry, but this is NOT a used trailer! 🤬 This is a salvaged trailer! Should have a salvaged title. You do NOT sale this as just a used trailer. That's 💯% unethical..
@@spankranchgarage you can't sell it as a regular used trailer with basic wear and tear. That's the unethical part. Hell yeah. Very well done. Great to see you used some oak to break it in.
Awesome video man, good work on the tools mic and editing 🤙
Thanks for breaking it down. Much appreciated to see all those numbers!

Hi there thank you so much for posting this video. Just wondering what the process is like to register it
In my state (PA) I had to get it inspected at a special enhanced inspection station. Once that passed, registration is regular nothing special.
Nice trailer make great again by a quality repair. True professional job.
Thanks 👍
1st time watching. I like how you broke down all the costs and profit

Loading the skidsteer, got to have the jacks down. If you load or unload on a bit of a grade, it will be exciting.

Damn good trailer. Keep it, use it, it will always be worth something.
Sure is. Almost a year later I use it more than I thought I would.
Good score excellent video
Thanks 👍
Fun fact, we make the forks for Copart at SAS in Luxemburg, Wi!
Nice! They use the hell out of them. Always surprised what they put up with.
Nice score! Ya gotta love the Copart fees!
Copart always comes out on top, their fees are insane.
Did u cross measure the frame to make sure it was still true?
Yes it was okay, just dented in the corner. Good point though. It is important its square so the box lowers correctly back onto the frame after dumping each time.
Did they salvage the title and did you have to get a rebuilt title?
Yes. I got it inspected and got a reconstructed title for it
im surprised you don't have a 100k subs , I've been on the tube 10 years and 2k subs , but your content a pretty good. thanks again.
Some day maybe. Thanks for watching!
How much did you pay including fees?
Copart added 800 in fees on 2600?Does it have a salvaged title now ?
Yes it did have a salvage title. It was easy to get a reconstructed title however. Keep your receipts
So it's March 2023 did you decide to keep it, or sell it?
I ended up keeping it and use it more than I thought! Hauling the skid steer, hauling stone, hauling scrap, etc. A lot more handy to have than I thought.

What kind of title do you have for it now?
It’s now a reconstructed title. It is a very easy process in PA

Yes this one did. I had it inspected and reconstructed
good deal
That trailer new sells for $15k up here and I’d bet used in good order you could still get $10k-$12k for it

Nope. PA is broker free anyone can bid with a deposit
PJ also powdercoats there trailers

So what did it end up costing you to buy it from the auction when you won the bid ?
