Yeah they did a pretty good job for the money. I'm not sure they make any boots like that anymore unless it's one of their heritage boots. If they even make a logger in the US anymore you can bet it's not made quite as well.
Redwing American made boots are just as good as far as craftsmanship goes. They still use the same 100 year old puritan sewing machines they always did. Redwing even own their own tannery. The difference is that RedWing tries to make boots for most price points. You can still buy great redwings. You can also buy glued sole junk redwings. You make the choice, not redwing.

Just to throw this out there, you have kept my attention for 20 mins without a single word spoken (minus the sponsor), sir, as a young 25 yr old congratulations. My attention span is just as thin as the leather you work with. Yet you have made a masterpiece out of so little.
I can’t wait to get mine, I ordered them about a month ago, I think they’re going to ship out around October. I don’t mind waiting for a lifetime boot.
Can someone please explain to me what the rebar and hammer is for around the 25:30 mark? Is that to blunt any nails sticking up into the actual inside of the boot?
Firstly,It's a shame these Boots didn't get the deserving attention of a little care,Clean considering they're Not cheap rubbish from China mass produced. The transformation is incredible I must commend the outstanding workmanship by the craftsman I hope the owner takes a little more care of these beauties.🤩
I feel like it's a bit unfair to the red wings to have them filthy and unconditioned in the before shot and nice presentation of the newly shined rebuild for the after shot.
Ok, but the level of quality, craftsmanship and durability after the rebuild is undeniable. Red Wing boots are OK. Just OK. A full rubber sole and heel. Thin midsole, thin insole and a goodyear welt that lets in water changed to a stich down with thick oak tanned midsole and insole with a leather heel stack and shank. For the difference in price, it makes no sense not to start with Nicks. They also have rebuild videos with their own boots. Believe me, people who buy these boots for work do not treat them gently and they will all look as rough at some point. Which was the point.
I bought a pair of Nick's boots at a thrift store, they are just a little bit big , in the box mostly new . Can you rebuild them for my feet? I have always wanted a pair of Nick's boots! I have never had enough for a pair, about how much is a rebuild? Thank you !
I have the same redwing loggers. Mine are a size 11D. I’m just ordered Nicks Urban Loggers that were ready to ship they are a 10.5 D. I followed the online instructions for measuring my feet and 10.5 D in Nicks is what I came up with. I was an 11 exactly on the Nicks Fit sheet. The instructions say go down a half size. Anyone know how accurate that is
I think you are allowed one return, so as long as you get it close, you can always go up or down a size, as long as you don't wear them outside, or they show signs of wear. I think they even will send you a pair just for trying them on for size. This company does it right. Look at how labor intensive they are making this boot. Real craftsmen here.
💯💯💯💯💯💯 All the way on the Iron Ranger redrafted into NICKS🥇🥇🥇 That was chose for grain of leather (thickness). Normally the wash 🧼 comes after the brush down 😯🤔 but oil brought the leather back. Great job 👏🏾
My red wing loggers are falling apart after 2 years. The inside is completely detached, so taking them off is like pulling the whole innards inside out. I've been looking at this channel for months now trying to convince myself to get a pair of nicks but honestly seeing this makes me think that there's a chance for my red wings to have some life again
As a die hard redwing and thorogood boot fanatic for 20+ years I made the switch to a pair of Nicks Builder Pros. I can honestly say that I’m never going to a different boot haha. I just ordered a second pair and will probably rotate these for the next 20 years. After the break in period they are hands down the most comfortable and safest feeling boot I’ve ever worn.
I like the option of this rebuild. You get the broken in leather of the upper with better innards and an overall better build. It would likely cost as much as a new pair of redwings to have this done but with the added quality it seems worth it to me.
Redwimg boots are great boots especially for their price range. As with any mass produced boot less than $500 they are not going to be built as good as possible since they still need to make a profit especially when it is made in America. It definitely wouldn't make any financial sense to rebuild it to such an extent just the labor alone would cost more than the cost of replacing the boots completely. Replacing the solid rubber heel block with a leather one reduces the weight of the boots but it is less durable.
Would having a replaceable heal stack without having to resolve the whole boot be the better long term design tho? It wouldn’t have made sense for Redwing originally when they could just use Vibram’s ready made logger heal, but that maybe part of why the PNW heritage makers still do that.
🤷🏻♂️Who can work in a pair of boots without wearing the souls down at all?? Calling old but not used much to start with!? $300 minimum for a pair of crappy boots twice a year here in 🇦🇺 Just purchased a pair of riggers boots from yas🙂😁 can’t wait to give em a test👌🏻👍🏻

Great video! As you have become a household name and considered top tier by many, maybe don’t use clip pictures that the Chinese jack videos use? Videos with those kinds of pictures don’t represent quality and are often looked over.
No one ever shows removing the last from the boot. And that is the part I am so interested in. The only reason I know it's removed is because of another Nicks video where they say they remove 3 nails so they can take the last out. But please show all those little steps! From my end seeing this I think "Looks like a boot no one can wear cause that plastic foot is still in there to this day"
Am I the only one bothered but how dirty these boots are sent in? Don't give me the garbage "these are work boots", brushing them is a lot easier than whatever you do while putting them through hell.
I am surprised that professionals, experts, masters in shoe repair do not know (they know but do not implement) the heat gun to take off a sole dwl in the same way that it is used to vulcanize, and decide to apply unnecessary force with the pliers! (it's just a subjective observation)
@@Totemparadox The heat gun is used both to adhere and to dilate the surfaces and facilitate the division of the glue material, even if it were a label in a plastic container.
@@raizo1794 Bruh I know that and in this situation it's not necessary since the job is rough and parts are allowed to get damaged. Resoling is where a heat gun is useful.
Agreed. They had to add too much new leather to change the boots to stitch down. I sure would like to see the label on that black jar of clear liquid though. What a transformation.
*Really disappointing they use a fiberboard midsole. I went to the product page, and no where on it do they mention what material the midsole is made of. It's not even listed under "Materials Used".
