I just suck it out with my MityVac through the return line until it sucks air. Fill the reservoir and suck till it new fluid comes through. Easy peasey and much less waste. I think your way dilutes the fluid, which is better than nothing. Whatever way you do it, it is an important service to keep your P/S system running well. Great job.
Question: My 2001 Honda Odyssey steering wheel was becoming stiff to turn and now I have no power steering. There was no unusual sound comming from the pump but the engine would struggle upon a cold start and shake and now since there is no power steering the engine cold starts perfectly and is running smoth . Also, there are no leaks and the fluid is reading full on the power steering reservoir. Question: what is the problem and what needs replacement. Bad Power Steering Pump ? Clogged rack and pinion ? Bad Pressure Switch ? Clogged line ? Any help would be appreciated 👍
The reservoir should be in the same location as my 2011. It's on the passenger side in the front. It usually has a red cap on it. You can look at the fluid level through the reservoir. It has marking on it that indicate whether you need fluid or not.
It helps flush out as much of the old fluid as possible. It you only want to do it once, it should be fine. It won't hurt. You'll have to do the flush less often if you do it completely each time. I know cost is always a factor, though.

Thanks. Having a dedicated fluid removal/replacement tool is definitely better. This is just a cheaper tool to use. Thanks for watching.

Bad Power Steering Pump ?
Clogged rack and pinion ?

Though I'm not a mechanic, it sounds like the pump may be bad. The last time I had that issue, it was the pump.
I have a Honda Odyssey 2020 how to check the power steering and add fluid??

Do you really have to repeat the process. Does it make it run better.

Good Job Sir Thank You
Thank you, sir!
Like all manufacturers, Honda does not make their fluids, someone else does in their bottles. Stay with reputable brands.
I appreciate the input!
What a sloppy mess
It can be, unfortunately. All you can do is try to be as neat as possible. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
