PLEASE READ . I’m pinning this because it’s a common question.
I have considered all options. In order for me to do VINYL or TILE I would have to have my entire house demoed, then leveled and then tiled. If I replace the carpet I would only have to have the carpet replaced. Vinyl and/or tile will cost me almost triple the cost of just replacing the carpeted areas.
The carpeted area is roughly 1000 square foot. That’s a much smaller area than my whole house. If I do carpet I won’t have to have my tile ripped out. I can just replace the carpeted areas and keep the tile I have.
I won’t keep the tile I have and just replace the carpeted area with vinyl or a different porcelain tile. Vinyl is thinner than tile so they would line up. I also think it looks tacky to have tile butt right up to vinyl. I also think having different types butt up right next to each other looks tacky.
I hope this answers all of your questions concerning my flooring.

I agree with most. We have 7 kids and I’m a stay home mom. We are the same way. I don’t have any TV in any of our kids rooms. Same electronics until they break. Starbucks is a luxury. We grind our beans and brew coffee every morning. One thing I don’t agree with is trips. We travel and take all 7 kids on trips. They’re only young once and you never know what will come tomorrow. Take the trip. We are military and lived in Korea and traveled all over Asia with our kids and now in Germany and traveling all over Europe. The kids will remember and have those memories to hold on to when you’re older. Also I’m very low maintenance. I stopped dying my hair and getting my nails done 7 yrs ago. Sooo much money I have saved!

Aquired my first LV bag after our youngest finished college. We sacrificed so that she would have minimal to no debt. I also do not do daily coffees, nail appts etc. I now have 3(Neverful MM in DA, PM in monogram, and an empreinte Easy Pouch on strap. I chose bags that I can use daily and for years to come. Great video Melissa! Super relatable and appreciate you sharing about personal finance. I'm also middle class, married no kids, and currently share a car with my husband. Really not a big deal since I'm self-employed working at home. Didn't purchase my 1st designer bag until I was in my 40s and we'd paid off all student loans, bought/sold multiple homes, no consumer debt, etc. Still rocking an iPhone 13 Pro that's 3 years old and works just fine.
Grew up lower middle class. My parents couldn't afford nice vacations - we just went camping every summer. As an adult, I actually think that helped with my lifestyle expectations.
Would love to see more videos like this topic, how you manage as a mother of 6, where you spend vs splurge, best deals for the money, "keeping it real" vlogs and whatnot.

The unnecessary food deliveries, coffee to go each, multiple expensive drinks are indeed an equivalent of a luxury purchase. Additionally 2 adults and 6 kids would not be any fun for you or your husband…..heck that is another part time job(bless the little cuties) and I am so glad you and your husband did not fall for her home upgrade bull…..I do not know why everyone thinks children sharing rooms is so bad. I think it is great because it teaches them early how to share and get along with sibling who can get on your nerves sometimes. My sister and I shared a room forever and it was fine although we do not have much in common. Yes car payment can really weigh you down. This is very relatable to me. We also keep a modest home, have no debt except the house, don't buy most of anything until it breaks, either for electronics or in our home. We do travel a bit and it can get pretty pricey even for just a family of four, so I can't image a family of 8! And stressful with even just two young kids, so 6 kids sounds like a lot! But keeping everything else minimal and having two decent incomes leaves a good amount left over each month now that both kids are out of daycare. For now, much more of our money is being set aside for a big dream trip I've wanted to take forever, I will be saving for it for 2 years (whole family to South Africa and Namibia for 2 weeks), but can still siphon off just enough for one luxury purchase per year. Enjoy your new little luxuries. I know it feels great to finally get to a point where you can begin addressing some of these, and it's fun to even ponder the possibilities, like choosing between carpet and wood. When the time comes to replace ours, I hope/plan to keep carpet in the bedrooms, but wood in the living areas and hallways.

I just replaced my 10 yr old lap top & it literally gave up on me completely so I had to get a new one since I do use it for work. I also got a new car last year, but it was only because the repairs were already costing us more than getting a new car and my husband and I don’t believe in buying brand new cars either. I would suggest to get the flooring you really want, and if that takes a bit longer, then it takes a bit longer. Also it’s always worth buying a sample of carpet/tile and putting it in different rooms and seeing how it looks when the light changes in that room, it can change your opinion. Carpet is warmer, deadens sounds more, and you can run a vacuum over it. Tiles can take longer to clean, are cold under the feet, but they can look really good. It was the same for Gwenny, she didn’t want to vlog because her old house wasn’t camera ready, I told her not to worry about things like that. People enjoy seeing other people just being normal and living in a normal way.

@@ItsOnlyWarPaint I agree. I would never judge anyone’s house or way of living. Unfortunately there are so many people who do. You will see a couple comments on this video showing judgment.
I’m leaning more towards doing carpet the longer I think about it. I like the tile we have so there is no reason to rip it out just to have new tile replace it. Unfortunately they don’t make the tile we have anymore so if I wanted to do away with carpet completely I had no choice but to rip it out and start over.

I get stressed using so expensive bags. Its more carefree for me to buy nice more affordable bags like Mulberry, Coach, Cala Jade, Coccinelle, Tory Burch, Furla.
I was embarrassed by my floors also. We just got new floors. We saved up the money in advance. I also sold a bag to make it happen. And they are light neutral wood floors. Wood floors are really common her in Norway.

Is your one vehicle a big, yellow bus? 😉 Honestly, in real life the majority of us don’t buy luxury as often as is shown here on the Tubes. Social Media is great for interacting with those that share our passions and hobbies and that we wouldn’t ordinarily get to meet because in life our social circles could be different, but I think it’s easy to get caught up in it and lose track of what’s important to our own families. Home is an investment, bags aren’t. You could do ‘Bag or Reno’, “Should I buy the P9 Speedy or porcelain tiles and a Longchamp?” 😂. Oh and I’m for landscaping the backyard first, too. You will enjoy being out there more if it suits your family needs. You look at the front of your house much less than the back.

Ok I finally commenting. I can relate to few things in this video.
First I didn't know you had 6 kids ❤ I have 3 young boys and can relate on a few things.
First- we don't do big vacations. We tried that, and wondered why we we were not enjoying it! 😅 it's too much work at this age group. So we take short gettaways. Less costly and a good on our temperament.
Second- we been in our home a long time even though from a lm outside perspective we could def use more space. We just make it work.
We also use furniture and appliances to the last drop. lol and I do mean last drop especially with 3 boys.m
I also do not eat out every weekend like most people and do expensive nails etc . We do a lot of local fun things and cook at home. My husband and I do "date days" vs date nights and go to breakfast and matinee movies.
Anyhow, I did UA-cam a couple years ago and stopped because it didn't feel authentic to my true life.
But I still enjoy luxury and contemporary and buy a couple times a year. Mostly preloved. Though:
I'm also looking to do some home improvements God willing in the next year or 2.
I will supportive whatever you do.

I hope that you will be able to do your home improvements soon. I know what it feels like to want to buy not be able to. Ours wasn’t due to financial reasons but the reasons really don’t matter.
I think that most parents can agree that buying new fancy things for the house isn’t smart when the kids are little.
I’ve tried the nice elaborate vacations with my kids also. Hated every second of it 🤣. I’d rather take them to amusement parks, renaissance festivals, rock climbing, river rafting etc than do a vacation.
