  • For years, Ford were the purveyor of the people's performance car with the likes of the Escort Mexico, XR3i, RS Turbo and of course the Sierra RS Cosworth. However these days in this new world of electrification the term "affordable" isn't one that comes around often, especially when it comes to more performance-orientated EVs. And so it is with the Ford Mustang Mach E GT, a car costing in excess of £70,000. So are you better off choosing one of it's newer rivals as the new People's Champion? In this week's Triple Test, Rod, Bryan & Charlie decide who does performance best.

I made the same test before buying, tried Mach E, Model Y and EV6 (Genesis isn't on sale in Belgium), and my choice went for EV6 GT, and I really love it after one year of driving. Even better than the I-Pace I had before !

That rattle in the KIA is the passenger seatbelt rattling against the b pillar trim because it hadn’t returned to the correct position over the seat side bolster. Not a great design that they could fix by adding some guides. For now a fix is to leave it plugged in or lace some felt on the seat buckle.
I hope they fix it in the refresh but in the meantime it’s easy to stop, but to repeat, the seats don’t rattle.

I’ve been driving a little Renault Zoe for nearly four years and have enjoyed it. It’s one of the first ever electric cars on our roads. She runs nicely, costs less than my previous car, a petrol Honda Jazz, which ate £20 a week. The Zoe only costs £10-£15 each week.

As you say beauty in the eye of the beholder. I love the look of the Genesis. Classy.

I agree, the Genesis looks good, particularly in that colour and I like the take on old school luxury for the interior, although I agree some of the silver switch gear looks a bit low rent. The EV6’s rear end treatment spoils the design and it seems just a little monstrous size wise. To me the Mustang Mach E is no thing of beauty, looks half assed and is generally a poor take on Mustang heritage. I agree it should be more differentiated as a GT for the price premium and the interior looks pretty crappy with that hideous massive iPad with a dial in it front and centre in portrait orientation. A heavily depreciated GV60 would interest me in a few years but all of these are far too rich for me and I suspect the majority of buyers now!

Great video chaps. Love or loathe Tesla - Model Y performance probably beats them all as an all-round car. speed, efficiency, charging, practicality, tech. I still hate the looks of Telsa's but you have to say overall package is pretty good and price point well....Out of those three, I love the EV6 but the loss of range is drastic compared to the others in the range.

Myp can’t beat the ev6 gt in speed myp is 3.7 without rollout with rollout its 3.5 to 60 the ev6 gt is 3.2 to 60 without rollout

For Y LR I agree, and I'm also not a fan of a design. Having said that, when comparing performance variants, outright speed and handling are paramount, and in these aspects, ev6 gt is superior.

Good and very detailed review. These are all far too fast for me. The less powerful versions of each are plenty for me. I prefer the looks of the Ford but it's way too expensive. When I drove a Mustang last year the ride of the version I had was unbearable. I hope they have fixed it. If it rode nicely and the standard model was £40k they would have no problem shifting them.

It is a criminal offence to wear turnips in a Genesis

Those are three pretty cars!! Some of them are very practical, but not for me!! The practicality I require is the ability to camp in it. Therefore, the most practical vehicle for me is an electric camper. It comes in the form of a Vauxhall Combo Life Electric with the Wheelhome Vikenze III conversion.

Not sure how you can criticise the interior of the Genesis without commenting on the amount of cheap black shiny plastic inside the ev6, that will scratch as soon as you look at it. Ev6 is a great car, but the interior was one of the reasons I chose the Genesis.

If I was in the market for a fast, properly sorted chassis engineered to go fast around twisty roads, I’d go with the Polestar 2 BST. It seems to be the only one where engineering thought has gone into it. The upcoming ioniq N5 might be quick but I suspect it’s also going to be tiresome with the fakery going on in it.

      Yeah, you’re actually right. 👍😂
The picture has never crossed my mind, but now I’m afraid I can’t unsee it! 🤣
The view from the angle straight behind, is - IMO - the least impressive of all the angles you can look at a EV6… 😬
      Oh… and I do actually own a EV6 GT.
      😊

I like your presenting style and watch many of your videos, but 67 minutes is too long.

    • @AutoEV

So, first of all, thank you for your very kind comment. It’s very much appreciated.
So allow me a few minutes to try and explain why our videos are so long. When we moved AutoEV from being a printed magazine to a UA-cam channel, the automotive review landscape was crowded with big names such as Carwow, Electrifying, Drive Electric, etc. Many of those channels have big personalities presenting on them too, so how could we stand out? What would separate AutoEV from these others? We decided to go into more detail, focus more on what might be important to actual car buyers and give a more in-depth review. Especially in an era where online purchasing is becoming much more accepted and carried out. If we could give more information and be the last review someone watches before buying, it would stand us apart. So we went against the norm and went long…..
Now we know it will cost us views and subscribers, but it’s now become our standard of you like. Many manufacturers like the fact we are a bit different and deliver this level of detail to prospective customers.
Also, it’s hard to deliver a comprehensive review on 3 cars in 20 minutes getting 3 opinions and views across too. It’s not every review that is this length, but more like our triple tests.
Anyway, I felt it deserved a response explaining why we do this longer review. I hope that helps you understand why we do it, but appreciate it won’t be appealing to everyone. I do hope you stay with us and watch more, but if not, thank you for taking the time to watch and put your view across. Every comment is read and considered, so thank you for the support.
      Bryan.
