    How true…I have also always thought that most female singers record/sing songs in much too high a key. Producers ridiculously push these voices into an unnatural screech. Why can’t they drop the key to an ear appealing chest to head voice…or select another song altogether. This I find across all genres. Sad.

      Exactly.... Nowadays it's all about hitting the highest note or sometimes the lowest that only trained singers can do. That's not singing, that's showing off. Popular genre songs should be song that ordinary people should be able to sing and whistle and hum while going about their daily businesses... If I want to hear high notes nothing in the world is more beautiful than coyotes singing to the moon

      When watching several shorts in a row, it gets cumbersome to have to go into the settings and turn on closed captions.

    Great topic and instruction. It's similar to choosing one's wardrobe: thoughtfully selecting and wearing the colors, styles, and fit that compliment one's best features, shape, and coloring; choosing pieces that are well-suited for the season and venue; and making certain they are well-coordinated, freshly laundered, and ironed as needed; with hair, makeup and jewelry accentuating the look. In contrast, to randomly choose pieces just because you like them. ❤

    I love your teachings! I've been trying to learn through these videos even tho I'm a singer and always told I have an angelic voice. I'm working on trying to hire someone like yourself to have one on one sessions so you can work directly with me to tell me what I need to do. I'm just working on my budgeting so that way I can be able to afford this and the gym. I wouldn't wanna perform as a chunky monkey. 😂 😊

    Excellent, excellent advice. I recently worked on "Bell Bottom Blues" by Eric Clapton but can't hit the high notes he can and shifted the song to a lower key. After learning the guitar part, the lyrics, and recording the song I listened back and my vocals sounded flat and lifeless. I'm playing with other musicians and told them I'll play guitar if anyone else wants to sing it but I can't make the vocals work. I have a range more in line with Mark Knophler, Willie Nelson, and John Prine, and can find a spot in harmonies that adds a soft earthy tone to the mix. Just goes to show the wisdom of the old saying, "Play to your strengths". Thanks for the affirmation Victoria.

    It's so interesting that I have never had much success with a Journey vocal. And yet I can sing songs from bands like Toto, Boston, and Foreigner. But boy, when you lower these tunes down just a lousy half step, they become so much more doable. This has always fascinated and frustrated me. Victoria, may I ask if would consider making a video on why the half step can make such a difference from a technical perspective?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Місяць тому +1

      Sure, that's because it lowers the high notes and the approach to the passaggio. That is the most common reason that singers transpose. I'll make a shorts video about this.

    If I were to say anything, I think after finding your original voice and working on the fundamentals, it could help open your range. Correct me if I'm wrong as I am no expert just someone who loves singing time to time. For me, the only reason why I'm able to move forward and sing the songs I want to sing was because every time I listen to my favorite songs I got this immense satisfaction and it became my goal to sing it not listen to it. The thought that I don't want to just listen to what the artist is feeling but I want to experience singing like that artist and how they feel when they sing and that got me me. There's still so much to explore but I can safely say I got here because I wanted to get sing that way. That was the goal and I want to encourage people that it's not the end. I had to step away and work on my own range and creep up from there for a few years. I want to say that she isn't wrong but I'm saying if you want a goal to sing a certain way for the right reasons you can work up to it but work on your own range first.

      I always say to start training in your middle range where it is easiest for most people.

    Yes! I love Christina Aguilera, I love her voice and singing along as I find it challenging (i love challenging myself), but some of her hardest songs don't work for my voice. Beyoncé is easier to sing and works best for my voice. Adele as well. But I'd say with practice I succeeded in some hard songs. For example Aguilera's walk away was hard 10 years ago. But as I got older I gain amplitude especially in the lower register so now I can hit that lowest note of the song and can do the riffs and run. But I wouldn't dare perform this song. It's just for me. Same with her back to basics songs. Some are really hard because of the technique.

    I think popular music that is totally not from your generation is difficult to pull off. I struggle with 'rat-pack' Sinatra/Dean Martin stuff it's just doesn't sound genuine and authentic. It's just not my era.
