  • With some funny, rather crazy experiments, I test if the homemade ferripaste really is a competitor to the expensive ferrofluid.
    They will battle in 7 categories and smoke and fire are guaranteed...
    The ferrofluid was donated by supermagnete.com for my 100K subscriber celebration.
    You can buy it here: sumag.net/ferrofluid-x05

      As I explain in the video, I've always wanted to see how it reacts when burning near a magnet. Also a little to see how flammable it really is. I thought it was way more flammable...

      Can you even call the fluid flammable considering how hard it was to light and even when it did flame it was a slow gentle burn. If you call that flammable, then that's most stuff...
      Maybe divide that point with the fluid earlier as far as playable since that interaction with fire is interesting (but damaging something so expensive maybe not the best idea)
      I'd be curious what would have happened on the ball with the paste. But I suppose the same thing as the dish.

    4:30 Anyone notice you could see the sound waves in the smoke? Sound waves are hard to illustrate, and therefore hard for students to visualize. A demonstration like this could help students get an intuitive grasp on how sound waves travel, and maybe even magnetic fields if you could suspect some magnetic iron dust in the smoke

    • @Name-eg1uf

      Damn that's cool

    • @shwndrws7785
      @shwndrws7785 2 роки тому

      IKR!
      TL?DR: I did notice! But I wasn't sure if it was solely sound or if that was magnetic waves or inverse or the interface pattern or something else and all of the above because tbh I was mystified as to how tf a magnet was even powering it up or whatever the correct phenomenon is bc yeah I'm dumb. Growing up, we were always shown sound waves using more linear looking visuals like strings, but this DOES- you're right- prove to be a bit more fantastic. 💡Maybe a mix of this and that would work? Like say string and soup cans, something I saw as a kid,but now attaching one soup can you normally hear out of in a cloud of vapor/fume/smoke; eg the receiver is suspended in a large jug filled with a cloud of vapor/etc which is suppressed/trapped beneath pressure or anything that works and does not interfere with the string carrying the vibration.

    • @fzigunov
      @fzigunov Рік тому +1

      Those are not sound waves though. They're instability waves on the convecting plume triggered by the speaker.

      I doubt it would work just by mixing magnetite and epoxy glue. It will only spike, if the magnetite is covered by a surfactant. But it might work if the right surfactant is added. I have no clue which would work in epoxy.

    • @Freigeist20789
      @Freigeist20789 6 років тому +1

      So far we have tested a PFTE foil used for baking with a gridded surface structure and a rather smooth teflon block ..both did not really work. Staining is not not strong , but it still sticks easily.

    • @brainiac75
      @brainiac75  6 років тому +8

      I'm not surprised. Those 10 nm magnetite particles will find holes and stick to anything solid in an air/solid boundary. Having ferrofluid in a glass container filled with a liquid (like salt water) seems to be the only place where ferrofluid only will stick to itself and not stain its surroundings.

      Loopy lew English isn't my native language and I am not that good to translate just hearing what he says, although I think his pronunciation is excellent and very easy to understand. And it's good to say that I've never taken an English course, sometimes I still need Google translate or a dictionary to give me a hand.

      It sacrificed itself for a good cause and will be remembered... The magnetite ash is surprisingly useful for detecting magnetic fields. I have kept it :) Thanks for watching!
