4:23, well technically it is a screensaver: Screensavers were originally designed to prevent burn in on crt displays, caused by images being displayed in the same place for too long. A magnet twisting the image like that would certainly save your screen... from burn in.
@Robin Assels No, the idea was a screensaver would be a constantly changing image or pattern, like the pattern on the TV as he moved the magnet, that would prevent burn in from, say, stationarity text from an old DOS prompt.
The magnet and the CRT is probably the most realistic physical/visual demonstration of the earths magnetic field I’ve ever seen. When you had it on the glass and it was displaying that “dead-zone” surrounded by the ‘infinity’ pattern? You were effectively displaying exactly what the earths field does, but with man-made electrons instead of solar wind electrons. I thought that was pretty cool 👍

+Orias X CRT screens are a completely dead technology(thank god) that I don't think any stores sell at all anymore and hard drives are quickly dying too(thank god x2). If you took this to an Apple store you MIGHT find an old low end iMac that you could mess up
With the computer, its easy to see what happened. It's an old COMPAQ, and so it has an HDD. An HDD stores data on magnetic tape platters. Passing a ludicrously strong magnet over it destroyed the magnetic tape, and thus any data that was on it. If you had been using a modern solid state drive, it probably would have been fine, other than some temporary disruption (like the CMOS errors you were getting with that computer that went away after you removed the magnet).
if anyone wants to know why the magnet killed the comopputer then heres the reason: computers (especially older ones) save data on an HDD (commonly referred to as a hard drive) which use magnetic fields to store data. once the magnet was placed on the computer, the hdd began losing its memory, however, the computer could still run vital programs on RAM which uses electric charges to store data and so the magnet did not instantly wipe it. eventually, the electronics could not function properly due to the magnets influence on the current and so the mouses signals were not able to be received by the computer. eventually, after a vital program was attempted to be run, the computer realised it could not be found and with nothing else to do it gave a warning and shut down. unfortunately, the warning algorithm was stored inside the hdd (which had been wiped by the magnet) resulting in yet another failure to function, so the computer shut down completely - this is where it lost all hope... since the hdd was wiped out, there was no system to reboot on and because the computer shut down the RAM was wiped leaving no system left to even attempt continue running. the loading sequence is stored in the ROM fortunately, so the computer could load back up (since like the RAM, ROM is not affected by magnetic infkuence of this calibre), however, with no system to load up there was nothing else it could do other than complain. luckily, as long as the magnets still work in the hdd, after formatting it, you should be able to save an operating system onto it again and the computer should work fine (granted that the magnet wasnt moved around on the computer too much to generate a current and break the motherboard). so yeah, this is what happened to the computer and why it happened :)

The colours were beautiful! My auntie tried to use the magnet to somehow shift the colours to the edges of the screen. It didn't work very well but I lived to tell the tale.
so does when my internet goes bad and laggy i start to smash my mouse when i disconnect because of bad internet i start to throw tissue box and my remote and smash my mouse
No I have seen that video with the laptop (very nice btw) and I mean like something else more modern like how you did a tv, pda and a calculator. can you do some other modern stuff? newer tv etc.
+Zuazzer'n'Stuff This magnet is powerful enough to shatter the bones in my fingers if caught between the magnet and a thick piece of iron or another large magnet. With this computer the metal case is probably not thick enough so I could get away with only some very painful pinches and some loss of skin at direct contact. But with a magnet this size you don't take chances - 4 cm distance is more than crazy enough. Highly not recommended trying this at your own house :)
Hi Alan! Thanks for stopping by and yet again thanks for letting me use your awesome music! I think it added a beautiful touch to the TV-part. And a good thing I didn't use your music on a video you would hate ;)
Newer, flat screen tvs are not affected with magnets. The tv here is a crt screen, and the thicker kind. it was cool to see how the magnet pushed the display out of the tv
Pikachuk That is because hard drives write data magnetically to platters in blocks. The arm has very tiny heads and the neyodium magnets in hard drives are used to stableize the arms as they write to the disk spinning 7200 rpm (oreven faster in some server disks). They move very fast. This magnet probably corrupted the blocks on the hard drives platters and possibly damaged the arm. I have pulled apart tons of bad hard drives to salvage the magnets to use on fridges and such. The same principle applies to floppy disks which is why you never kept them around magnets.
Umm that's not how black hole works, and that's not how you simulate it as well. Also black hole isn't a hole,it's a infinite dense sphere, what you are seeing are just magnetic field
bass boosted music 2017 This might also damage the platters beyond use but modern day hard drives still use the same basic technology, platters with magnetic data on the. Solid state drives use flash. However solid state is still more expensive and still not up to the same densities, 10TB HDD is available.
When I was a kid, my friend's dad let us play Mechwarrior on his home PC. One day, we found that if you pressed a magnet up to the monitor's screen, the colors went all crazy! I wasn't invited back for months.
brainiac75 who want magnets like that shipped next to hard drives or things containing hard drives? How do they ship that without it interfering with the other parcels in a delivery truck? What do they wrap it in?
More than the computer in itself, I believe the neodymium magnet pretty much erased all the structure of the Hard Disk to complete flatness. The PC would PROBABLY recover after a transplant of Hard Disk. If you can still find a HD for that kind of hardware, that is.
You mean IDE? I have a bunch of 4GB ones lying around, sone have Win98 on them one even has Win95 and an official Office97 on it. (still got the disk for it too)
Well, I too have some old IDE laying around in the attic... half a dozen of them, I think, capacity from 3.2 to 80GB and form factor of both 2.5 and 3.5 inches (functionality NOT guaranteed)... but who knows if he has or can get one where he lives to do the swap and try to see if the PC works afterwards.

@@saassasds3006 What the heck, I am calling your mom because you stole her phone.
Jesus christ.
as a 9 year old my grandad gave me a 4 inch diameter magnet (1996) I put it on top of the CRT TV screen at mu aunties house when a 40 inch TV wasn't a bedroom TV it was the main TV in the house, in UK at least. The colours were beautiful! My auntie tried to use the magnet to somehow shift the colours to the edges of the screen. It didn't work very well but I lived to tell the tale.

I do the same thing. It's an anger issue with me.

so does when my internet goes bad and laggy i start to smash my mouse when i disconnect because of bad internet i start to throw tissue box and my remote and smash my mouse
Funny how the TV goes "nope im outta here" when a magnet comes near it
Cool vid. now try throw the magnet into monitor and see what will happen.
Alde Ambara Sakti maybe u should try it
+The_Drift_Killa777 i dont have a computer :(
Your phone is a computer ;)
I don't think his phone has a CRT display, so it would not do anything.
Patrick Kissman it's not about the display. More about the harddrive or in iPhone case ssd. The magnets can easily wipe them
You should do the video except with modern tech like a flat screen tv (even though nothing may happen)
I've tested the magnet on a laptop with both HDD and SSD. Links in the description field under the video. Or just look at my channel :)
No I have seen that video with the laptop (very nice btw) and I mean like something else more modern like how you did a tv, pda and a calculator. can you do some other modern stuff? newer tv etc.
ChrisCo-Op Gaming Send me some modern stuff and I'll test it :) There's a reason I chose old equipment....
Oh I see what you mean.
yeah I see that, I don't know why I bothered asking.

Deal of the day:
$10000 computer for $5000 only. But comes with a free neodymium magnet.
a $10k pc wont have a hdd.. ssd's are faster and wont break with magents :)
Why is it dangerous for yourself to keep a magnet this close to a computer?
+Zuazzer'n'Stuff
This magnet is powerful enough to shatter the bones in my fingers if caught between the magnet and a thick piece of iron or another large magnet. With this computer the metal case is probably not thick enough so I could get away with only some very painful pinches and some loss of skin at direct contact. But with a magnet this size you don't take chances - 4 cm distance is more than crazy enough. Highly not recommended trying this at your own house :)
+brainiac75 pls try whit a nokia
+brainiac75 fark that would suck so much
Dont listen to brainiac. Its not dangerous if your a man and now a woman

What about the camera?

Abstaubear DE What does China have to do with that. Yes all things from the USA are better than any Chinese product. I mean look at our guns

I enjoyed this a lot!
The bit with the computer at the end was the best!
Hi Alan!
Thanks for stopping by and yet again thanks for letting me use your awesome music!
I think it added a beautiful touch to the TV-part. And a good thing I didn't use your music on a video you would hate ;)

That was amazing, with the Television Set!
Lena Oxton don’t try it with a good tv though!
Yoon Bum theyre here!
Newer, flat screen tvs are not affected with magnets. The tv here is a crt screen, and the thicker kind. it was cool to see how the magnet pushed the display out of the tv
Xen Rhodes I think he just solved quantum mechanics
This guy: * forgets he has a big magnet in his hand and goes to the kitchen for a coffee *
The kitchen knives and forks: *It's showtime*
Damn😂😂
The magnet erased most of the operating system files.
It's like "Delete 'system32' to make your PC faster" on steroids.
hard drives are really sensible to magnets, it would have been interesting if he was able to disassemble the pc to see the parts that died
3:10 Rofl that's a perfect black hole simulation
lmao
ikr
Umm that's not how black hole works, and that's not how you simulate it as well. Also black hole isn't a hole,it's a infinite dense sphere, what you are seeing are just magnetic field
Mercury The Metallic Liquid I know that's not how it works, I believe that's how it would look though.
@Mercury you must be fun at ruining a party -_-
Fastest way to reformat a HDD.
nick4819 not modern day drives
bass boosted music 2017 This might also damage the platters beyond use but modern day hard drives still use the same basic technology, platters with magnetic data on the.
Solid state drives use flash. However solid state is still more expensive and still not up to the same densities, 10TB HDD is available.
And never use it again
2:43 the screen: *ight, imma head out*
2:47 *aight, i’m back-*
When I was a kid, my friend's dad let us play Mechwarrior on his home PC. One day, we found that if you pressed a magnet up to the monitor's screen, the colors went all crazy!
I wasn't invited back for months.
That once happened to me on my TV. Luckily, it was back to normal in a day!
XD
Mike Zilla my TV will forever be Christmas colors...
Ill sub just because you got the magnet off

Where the hell did you get a 6 inch neodymium magnet?
6" is quite an unusual size. You can find it on magnet4less.com, magnetportal.de and sometimes eBay
Seems like you would need some kind of license to buy those you could run into a datacenter and throw it lol
where the hell did he even find a tv with a cro...
ElectricAir42 no.
brainiac75 who want magnets like that shipped next to hard drives or things containing hard drives? How do they ship that without it interfering with the other parcels in a delivery truck? What do they wrap it in?
the computer isnt dead, the harddrive just died.

ERECTIN' WINDOWS XP!
Imagine getting one of these, and hearing your neighbors across the street yelling: *WHY ISN'T MY TV WORKING!?*
