  • Join us while we explore one of Kaohsiung's most beautiful districts. We rent a city bike and head off to the Pier 2 Art district near downtown Kaohsiung. It's a really nice area, which used to be an industrial district that was abandoned. It's home to impressive street art, sculptures, graffiti and other beautiful things. We didn't expect to find this in Taiwan.
We will be living in Taiwan for the coming weeks/months. If you want to discover what it is like to live as a foreigner in Taiwan, what daily live looks like (costs, apartment, etc.) as well as exploring some of the beauty Taiwan has to offer, then subscriber to our channel.

This art park is so cool and beautiful!
I'm not sure but seems now every city is learning from each other.
My city Xi'an is also gradually opening up an art park which is remodeled from a cotton factory and kept all the industrial walls with graffitis painted and galleries built in, a very similar idea to this place of Kaohsiung, right?! And I'm very excited to see its final open.😊
Whoever introduced this idea to the world's cities must be a real genius of city plannings!👍

    • @NaickKim
      @NaickKim  4 роки тому +2

Yes, cities are becoming better and better. Nice parks and galleries always add to it being a nicer place to live. I read somewhere that it usually is a 'natural' evolvement. Neighbourhoods and factories go into disrepair and disuse. Then the value of properties and value of rent goes down a lot, which then attracts artists and attracts more and more people.

Happy to see you guys having a great time in my hometown Kaohsiung! Just a friendly reminder: if you are using the cotton mask (which is not the single-use type) don't forget to wash it with detergent every 1-2 days to avoid any virus or pathogens sticking onto the mask! Prepare 2 or 3 masks so you can wear the other one when you're drying one of them. The cotton masks are now available in almost every pharmacy and convenient store. Stay safe and have fun in Taiwan!

If you’re still in Kaohsiung definitely try out Kaohsiung Martyrs' Shrine to enjoy the magnificent scenery!! Moreover, the pieces of art that you’ve mentioned ,those wooden chairs were the type that we had in our junior or senior high school. All Taiwanese can recognize them at the first glimpse 😉 (Perhaps recently they’re outdated and becoming an art work..)

How fantastic and exciting your video about Kaohsiung is, Naick & Kim! Many spots inside are just closed by my parents' old house, but through your camera angle, they just sound so fresh and look something new. I was born there (Kaohsiung) around 70 years ago, but I am now living in Japan with my wife. China Virus Disease COVID-19 surely might cause some inconveniences for your coming steps of movements, however if you stand a chance to visit Japan, do not hesitate to contact us, and be our guests. Our house is located at the Metropolitan TOKYO area, and there are many attractive

Glad to hear you are enjoying our videos. How long have you been living in Japan and how do you think it compares to Taiwan?
We would LOVE to visit Japan. It is in our top 3 countries we would like to visit. But unfortunately it is quite expensive, so it's not really within our budget range at the moment. When we make it to Japan, we will definitely let you know.

      Hi @@NaickKim
Thanks a lot for your prompt info. I have already lived in Japan for over 45 years, though within this period, a couple of years were shared by the lifes separately in several other countries such as China (10 years, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, etc;), Moscow, Russia (3 years) and HCM, Hanoi of Vietnam (less than 6 years ).
It's really difficult to compare Taiwan and Japan. For me, I gave 99.9 points out of 100 to the former while 99.8 to the latter, but, trust me, you would get the opposite answer from my wife (She is a Japanese LADY), 99.8 against 99.9.
Like many of my foreign friends, in their minds, Japan seems always to stand for a country of higher costs and expenses, however, it may not be true, it depends on your beforehand plans. One of the points is something concerned the daily ACCOMMODATION. In relate with this, you may take my "tumble-down & dilapidated" house into consideration (F.O.C), plus a guest-house or a B and B when you have the trips to another rural areas outside TOKYO.
Thank you once again for your video reports.

Some places in Kaohsiung for you:
    1) 佛陀紀念館 (Buddha Museum): if you're interested in the religion culture of Buddha, here's a ideal place for you to go. There you can see the building, history and many cultural relics.
    2) 壽山 (Mountain Shou):There you can meet many wild monkeys, but be careful they may grab your food. Enjoy a walk there, and take care of your bags. Not sure if there's 控土窯 in Mt. Shou, it's a kind of like barbecue, but not exactly.. (You heat up the soil and stones first with fire, then put food into it.)
    3) 旗津 (Cijin): It's a sandbar out of Kaohsiung. You can get close to the sea there, but it's not as beautiful as it was.., because of the artificial development. You can also taste some seafood or 烤小捲 (grilled neritic squid) there. But be careful, some restaurant they don't show you the price on menu, so the price may sometimes be unbelievable. To go there, you can take the ferry by several local harbour in Kaohsiung.
    4) 愛河 (Love Rive): it's a river flow through Kaohsiung city, there you can take the boat in the night, have a walk, and also see some vendors selling there handmade crafts.
    5) 美濃 (Meinong): It's an area outside Kaohsiung central city, more close to the mountain. There you can experience some Hakka culture (客家文化). You can taste the Hakka flat noodles (客家粄條),and do Aizen (藍染) there.

It represents the memories of the past is because in the last 70 or maybe 80 years, all Taiwanese elementary schools have the same style of wood chairs, it is sturdy and passed down through generations, I read a story somewhere a grandson was assigned a seat that his grandfather used to have, he recognized it because his naughty grandfather carved his mane to the wood chair which is a violation of the school rules😂
