I’m enjoying so much your portrait paintings. Very detailed giving life specially the eyes and skiing . Thank you for sharing your artist skills 🌹👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🤲🏽💯
Christine, habituée aux démos sur internet je dois vous dire que la vôtre est splendide. Merci de nous faire partager votre démo complètement. Quelle sensibilité et surtout quelle dextérité. Bravo Mireille
Thank you so much for sharing this painting proces with us. It's so gorgeous!! I hope one day, with a lot of practice, I will be able to paint a little bit like you.🙏🏽
This popped up in my notifications, and OF COURSE I had to watch it all the way through. This little munchkin is almost a twin to my granddaughter, and it was helpful seeing the colors used in this portrait. I’m still working at it, and this was incredibly helpful!
Really enjoyed this video as it shows how to continue through the 'ugly' phase which is where I usually give up. Will share this on our art society page. 😀
Wow! It's great to see the process and progress! I guess I'd have finished after even a third of the time and would still have found the painting great. I admire your skills! Thanks for sharing.
What a beautifull demonstration of the wonderfull possibilities of painting with water colour. Very inspiring and informative with the helpfull short written info during the process and I truly admired your very precise and at the same time painterly and sensitive way of using the flat brush for all the underpainting and later the pointed brush. Beautifull work
Oh I was so upset for the bad painting tonight and I saw your video it gives me lots of confidence. I need to be patient to wait for the water goes dry and to be careful with the mixing. Thanks!!
Its absolutely outstanding portrait and the way you handled those edges. particularly, the skin tone on the cheeks & the lips. The face is very young & fresh. It helped me a lot for my painting purpose which I'm going to start again Thank you dear...
Thank you for making these . I have to say as much as I love all of your work, I especially like it when you just use the watercolor and not the pencils the best
Très beau portrait, très frais, belle technique je ne suis pas fan d aquarelle en temps normal mais là j ai même envie de essayé très lumineux on retrouve innocence dans ce beau visage bravo
Thanks madam... I appreciate that you did this tutorial slow enough to convey your message clearly.... I have been looking on videos that would help me on how to remove sharp edges on my portrait and this particular one help me a lot.... Keep up the good work... I am your newest subscriber. 🤓👏👏👏
Really inspiring! I've been practicing a lot of watercolor portraits this quarantine and this has become my inspiration to do and praccctiiiiceee more Great vid!!!💚
While watching this video it brought to mind how much experience it requires to make those seemingly 'quick' easy decisions. I will not be there for awhile.
Your painting is beautiful! I've always had a problem when it comes to water paints which sounds stupid I know but watching you is teaching me Alot. If I could ask for anything if would be more information regarding what colours your using and when. What you use to blot up the paint ie tissue etc. Also what size/shape brushes your using and when. It would be nice if maybe you talked through the video while painting to inform us more. The little write ups across the bottom are helpful but they do tend to take your eye off what your actually doing to read. I must subscribe to your page as your work is outstanding. I can't wait to see what else you paint, ie animals, gardens, landscapes etc. This is the first video of yours I've seen so I'm off to do more watching, a lot more 😉
démonstration magistrale !!!! Dommage qu'on ne puisse connaitre les couleurs employées. Bravo ! superbe ! Il est si difficile de faire des portraits ...Merci merci
If I'd of laid down those washes that had hard edges and looked choppy, I probably would have called it a failure and stopped. But you Christine, don't doubt yourself, you know you are a sculpture of watercolor and just keep softening, adding and taking away until you have another perfect painting. Keep them coming. I am learning so much. At one point you say you put down "partially Brown Madder," what do you mean by that?
Thanks so much Candeekissez :) 'partially brown madder' - I mean on parts of face I want it to be more reddish, makes it look more alive/young/healthy.
I love this it was awesome to watch! I want to know which paints and which mixes are on your brush every time though. I was watching on a kindle and trying to decipher, for instance is that the rose madder evey time on lips? Is that water on her brush, nope looks like a watered down brown oh I am just not sure. Which color layers went down in the shadows? I just want to know all the details. I really liked this it is beautiful!ly paint TeX a d there really are. Not many tutorials on painting black skin and hair. I hope you have more or do more.
Thanks Robynn! You watched it on Kindle??? It is very difficult to explain or the mixes I use - also usually I mix them with the left over paints on my mixing palette - to put it all in a video is just too time consuming, and make it too long.
Hello! I really enjoyed your tutorial. But could you tell me what you meant by "now the ugly stage begins"? You mentioned it when you started the eyes. I am always attracted to eyes, the most beautiful part of the face.
Thank you! There is always a moment, while painting, usually in the middle somewhere, where you have put down enough paint to recognize the subject, but there is still important details to add and parts to work on, and this is the moment where you think you might ruined the painting and want to give up, because it is only half way done and looks 'ugly'. Hope that makes sense :)
Hi firstly thanks for this explaining vids this helps me a lot! Secondly, how do you wet the paper and it stays wet the whole time without getting crumpled? How can i do that? Thanks!
Thank you! I use a spray bottle and a larger brush - you really need to spread the water equally and wait for a minute or two until the paper soaks in. And it doesn't stay wet through out - it only stays wet in the areas where I add paint water again and again. Some part will need to dry for next layers. And the paper crumples a little, you just can't see it well in the video, because the light comes from above. But I like this paper and size. Larger paper sizes buckle more.
Beautiful and captivating process! Did you use a reference photo for this (and others)? If not, how do you choose the highlight and lowlight colors so beautifully?
Thanks :) Yes, working on these realistic portraits I usually work from a reference photo - I state it in the video description below the video (click on "show more"). But I very often add on highlights and low lights - that's the awesome thing on painting :) I can do what I want to make it even more glowing. You just need to focus on where the light is coming from and work from there.
What a beautiful experience watching you paint this portrait. I learned so much to help me as I try o paint a watercolor portrait. What do you use to draw the initial rendering. With anything I try, I seem to lose the lines and end up getting into a really ugly stage.😕 I will be watching this and your other videos repeatedly. I really appreciate you showing what pigment you are using at antivenin momen. Thank you.
Thank you, Irma! I use regular HB mechanical pencil. I guess the trick is that you draw the pencil lines stronger in the areas you want to paint darker later and very lightly where you plan to have you highlights. But yes, you can't draw everything with pencil - the pencil sketch should be just a rough idea of the composition of your subject. The actual portrait painting should be done in watercolour, and that's the difficult part. A good exercise is to leave the pencil sketch away and just work with watercolour, right from the beginning. Here is a video I am showing how to start the sketch with watercolour: ua-cam.com/video/RXTJ4cPZhVM/v-deo.html
