Was so much more elegant back then compared to today's dancers.

The best Foxtrot natural turn, hover cross, weave ending, three Fallaway…. I had ever seen.

Richard is a master of his craft, and I think Janet one the best lady dancers in the history of ballroom dancing.. her legs, ankle and foot use are always sublime and superb! very elegant, classy and musical.

I saw them dance several times at The Winter Gardens, Blackpool. Always breathtakingly elegant - they make it look so simple.

It is unbelievable how ballroom dance has changed, simply beyond recognition! The dresses from that era were stunning, by the way :-)

The Gleaves' dancing would do well today. The dress, not so much.

@@psychohist The dress is splendid, as is the color. Times change, but may be one day this comes back. To Janet´s body, the dress is splendid.

This is such a beautiful performance. No doubt a unique masterpiece.
When God created ballroom dancing, he meant it to be like this.
Dance is a performance of art, not a variety of artistry.
This is dance as the Master meant it to be.

When did God create ballroom dancing? 😂

@@AnonymousIguana Martin Luther King, the greatest speaking artist in world history: "If I can speak the message as the MASTER taught." The Master (God) created beings on earth, and is himself the great being of creativity. Man, in fact, is created with the characteristics of God (imageo dei). So why isn't he dancing in heaven ? Sure he is, and inspiring us, his created beings, on earth. To be like him and his angels.

As one comment said they are dull to watch, I can certainly see from today’s perspective it might be the case.
I think dancing on the one hand is for others to watch. But I think its more fundamental root is two people enjoying the moment together and being in their own world to share a dance. The dancing they did certainly looks comfortable to dance with. If you compare it with today’s dancing, today’s dance style might look dashing, but a lot of them seem a bit too violent to be comfortable.

That was before Marcus and Karen Hilton made such a big improvement in the choreography and interest of ballroom dancing.

I thought I was the only one who thought that ! Truthfully, I much preferred Michael & Vicky Barr to watch.

I attended 2 of the Gleaves masterclasses.( long ago)..excellent teachers. Richard said they didn't NEED to change their choreo.. so they didn't, ever, and as comp dance lengths were always the same, they knew how much time was left and therefore how to use energy reserves.Yes, it always looked easy.
I think they, the Hiltons, and Mirko changed top level dancing from that of..... er... earlier times.

I remember these two - I thought their dancing had no personality and was very dull to watch.
